Ok. Whatever.

When do we get Bionic Commando. That is the important question!

You can only do 'special editions' of games people actually give a sh1t about.

Halo3 = popular enough for people to throw away extra cash on a toy helmet and some pictures that are probably available on the net for free.

Devil may cry = more like marketing dept will cry, when they get fired because hardly anyone cared about the game and even less people bought the stupid special edition.

I can't believe the Devil May Cry series is still continuing. Add two parts stale one-dimensional characters, 4 sticks of big guns and fancy swords, a carton of remarkably bland backgrounds and areas and pepper throughout with random unplayable action scenes that provide the main distraction from what's otherwise a mindless hack-and-slash.

Square already jumped headlong with this recipe with Advent Children. The previews of FFXIII seem to prove the days of thoughtful character building and intricate storytelling falter when pitted against spiked hair and a smug smile. I wonder when we'll get to have our Uematsu-style melodies replaced with generic screamo metal. God I can't wait.

Still better than Enemy Territory: Quake Wars' collectors set. They included a whole extra DVD for about 50 megabytes of pictures, a 100 megabyte fansite kit, and LINKS to ringtones. For gods sake, LINKS. However, the little cards and the map book make it almost worth it.

Eitherway, if it wasn't $80, I'd consider getting the CE... The fact its got the cartoon and the "making of" videos still make it a convincing argument.

Where in my comment did I rank this down? Holy crap, I got a response from a month old comment...

Anyway, I said its almost worth it. Honestly, if I cared that much about the anime, I'd of bought them, and download a version with subtitles if necessary.

Honestly, the only thing I said was negative was Enemy Territory Quake Wars' collectors edition, which was, crap.

I don't know wtf is up with that. I'd assume they are only digital mock-ups of the boxes and they just had the stock border image with the "only on 360" tag on it. Still surprised it didn't get removed since they put together an image with the fake 360 box in the post and the fake ps3 box side by side.

Or maybe they mean 360 version is only on 360... I guess that makes sense.

Its Devil May Cry 4.

Any edition is ten times more special to me than any other game on the horizon.

Of note is that the DMC Anime would be priced at $29.99 on its own.

So when you slice it like that, it's not a bad deal. Now the question is if the Anime is good enough at $30 for 4 episodes.

I always find "making of..." bonus discs to be incredibly boring. I can only take so much of looking at wireframe models and concept art before monotony sets in.

Good fucking luck if you expect people to pay 80 bucks for that. And this is coming from a cat-helmet owner.

Only two things interest me when it comes to collector's/special/limited editions on games:

1) bonus game content (maps, characters, armor, weapons, etc.)
2) additional information and insight into the fictional universe of that game

Anything else, including (but not limited to) behind-the-scenes/making-of videos/interviews/diaries, trailers, themes/wallpapers, gamerpics, pc software, links to stuff on the internet, website fankits, FIGURINES, and metal cases... are completely worthless, as far as I'm concerned.

And you call that a "disappointment" ?

I remember when I received my Splinter cell Double Agent Special Edition (Or limited, or whatever) with a mighty tin case, and... NOTHING!... just the common green plastic case inside the tin one. That was all.

I wouldn't be surprised if most publishers stop releasing Special Editions of games, since buyers' expectations are becoming unrealistic. Bungie basically pushed it over the line of ridiculous with the whole "cat helmet" fiasco, and they could do so because they had the massive, unimaginably deep pockets of Bill Gates behind them.

All these stupid Special Editions do anyway is further the notion that video gaming is becoming "interactive Hollywood," with gargantuan, over-the-top budgets and a ridiculous amount of fluff.

I'm not entirely sure why, but the whole mentality of "I'm *only* getting four episodes of an anime, a making-of video, the soundtrack to the game, a media pack, a sturdier case, and an art gallery?! What a rip off!" just pisses me off. It's not the "We Give You Free Shit So You'll Buy Our Game" edition. Hell, the soundtrack alone would probably cost $20 outside of this pack.

Of course it sounds like a "deal." But that's only because people who buy anime and Japanese video game soundtracks have become accustomed to paying retarded premium prices for their hobby. The VG companies are just starting to find the thresholds for milking their customers.

You are right about something, though, with more and more ridiculous special editions coming out these days, the bubble will eventually burst. It'll probably end up being just like when the bottom fell out of the comics industry in the early '90s. All I can say is, sell your stocks before that happens!

I'm starting to feel like I'm an alien or something. It seems like every next-gen game under the sun is getting a special edition box, yet I haven't in my life ever paid for more than just the normal game. I'm shocked Nintendo hasn't gotten in on it: I imagine they'd kill with some throwaway dolls and art pictures in Mario, Zelda or Pokemon.

Regardless, I wish we just dropped the phrase 'Special Edition' and went for the real name: BOHICA Edition.

All collectors editions should follow in metal gear solid and bioshock's footsteps. Extremely limited and worth something already. You can go buy the final fantasy XII collectors for 14.99.

Is it just me or does the $80 seem like a decent deal? You're getting the soundtrack, plus 4 episodes of the anime, plus all the other crap and tin box for $20 more. That's a good deal to me. :/

I don't understand why everybody is complaining, this is a freaking deal...

You get both the first season of the anime, and the OST and a bunch of other extra stuff for only $20 extra...

Seperatly the anime and OST would run you atleast $50 together... (judging by the price of DMC3's OST)...

I'm definetly getting this...
