Does it mention anywhere what version was the best seller? I'm probably thinking PS2 since it has the bigger install base.

Considering that Halo3 is an exclusive first party title and GH3 is available for all major consoles I don't think that is a hard feat to accomplish. Now if they said that GH3 is the number 1 selling 360 title through Sept I would be hard pressed to believe that.

I don't understand it really. Aren't people getting tired of this game, don't they want Rock Band 10x more? I'm impressed that they managed to sell this many. I figured everyone would be tired of this already but my new theory is that casual gamers are a different breed. They don't expect leaps and bounds in their games, they will buy the sequel for more fun regardless of how similar it is to its predecessor.

I don't think many of the GH fans out there really qualify as "casual gamers". Casual gamers don't spend $90 on a game with a guitar after buying a $300+ system. At least not in droves.

There's room for the series to grow. Unfortunately, I think Neversoft took it in the wrong direction. GHII was tightened up and expanded on in nice, logical and fun ways. This time around I get product placement and horrible guitar battles. At least the track selection is decent.

I think Rock Band has a long road ahead of it, although I bet there's many people with guitars already that will just get the game itself and skip the main package. I just don't think anyone can underestimate the power of the Guitar Hero name anymore and that's going to be difficult for even Rock Band to overcome. I don't think it's going to meet GH3's sales early on... perhaps in the long run it will.

I'd have to disagree about the price not making them casual gamers. A ditsy sorority girl from my Art class of all people picked up guitar hero on launch day. I know for a fact that she is nothing more than a casual gamer thanks to the wii.

Well, I don't know. If we just speak of people we know, I know about 15 people who picked it up in the "hardcore" crowd and 2 who aren't. It's hard to get much out of that stuff.

I'm not saying they're non-existent, I just don't think casual gamers are what are pushing this series so hard as Fred seemed (at least to my understanding) to be saying.

Halo 3 may have made $300mil in a week, but it was also pretty much a global release. Guitar Hero 3 is still 2 weeks away for us in Europe.

I'm assuming this is for the wii, ps2, ps3, 360... and the kit that costs about $100 with the guitar...

jose_edwaldo this is for every platform, if Halo 3 was for every platform it would sell out the roof. So when they say it's the #1 franchise it's because it's available for all consoles.

Anyways, MDJ yes I rented Bioshock, and I'm going to rent Assassin's Creed. No I haven't played Orange Box (Richard will never convince me), but I don't have a lot of time and when I do, I like to play H3 ;)

But I am looking forward to Mass Effect, possibly Rock Band.

@toro - I would highly reccomending renting The Orange Box even if just to play Portal...

next to Bioshock, it was the best SP experience of the year.

I actually sold the game but kept the guitar because I prefer the songs in GHII a lot more. I honestly had never heard of most of the songs in GH3.
