Following EA's news that they will only be manufacturing six total copies of Rock Band for the entire planet to share, Activision says that their VirtuaRocker Guitar Hero III could be in short supply, too. We already know that they made a few more than six copies, but that doesn't mean it's just going to be on every street corner, mister!
During Activision's quarterly earnings call, company CEO Robert Kotick said "there's a probability that this holiday we won't be able to supply all the demand for every platform." While "a probability" isn't quite on par with EA's assertion that you'd have better luck catching a yeti this holiday season, we doubt Activison's losing too much sleep over it on their bed made of money.

The GH3 is great, I got it for the Wii, no problems with lag or red fret or anything really. It's actually easier to "Rock On" than the X360 GH2 Guitar that I played on. Yes the graphics aren't as clean as the shot above, but you are busy staring at the notes right?
SO when can I get another guitar without the bundle? I need to get me some vs. and co-op!

But is it scarcer than Rock band (because that's how we measure popularity these days)? God forbid that production might be able to scale to demand.
But it's good that they're learning from marketing techniques outside of gaming. For instance, we couldn't get as much smack through the border this week, but that's just because it's real good shit ($10K, K?).
Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm a firm believer that the game which is on shelves will sell more.

I dunno. Scarcity still seems to be working for the Wii's sales.

@Hey Apples
"The detachable neck "feature" is the biggest blunder I've ever seen in my life."
I'm torn..I agree in that they shouldn't have added something like a detachable neck if they couldn't get it to work correctly.
On the other hand... mine works perfectly fine and I love the detachable neck as it lets me put the guitar away quite nicely.
I think RedOctane should have had better quality assurance.

My friend wanted to buy GH3 on the 360 this past Sunday. We went everywhere, and it was nowhere to be found. He almost gave up on buying it because of that.

Not at the Best Buy I just picked up CoD4 at. They had about 100 of them for all the platforms.

The 360 version is sold out everywhere around here, but you can walk into many stores and find the Sony and Wii versions. Of course the holiday mania hasn't really hit yet.

I declare open season on videogame companes (hardware and software) that declare their shit is in short supply so as to create extra demand.

I so don't give a shit about Guitar Hero and I really wish I could. I played the Wii version this past weekend. Just a big "Meh" for me. I can't get into rhythm games no matter how hard I try.

Anyone running into problems with GH3? I swear I am hitting notes but sometimes they simply don't register. This happens ALL THE TIME when there is a long series of notes you have to hit in rapid succession. Is this a known bug or something? It is supremely irritating.

none here between myself or several friends with the 360 wireless version. Not sure of your'e skill level, but there is a point just before you level up where you'll swear you're hitting notes and they just aren't registering it. Keep the faith!

jsn - thanks. I actually got through expert on GH2, four or five-starring all but a couple of tracks. I'd heard over the interwebs that some people were having the same problem as me but haven't seen any centralized discussion. Don't know if it's the tabs, the guitar, or me, but it is really, really irritating.

I feel the same way sometimes. I'm like, "I SWEAR I hit that damn note!" Not saying that that never happened in GHII, but it seems to be a little more prevalent this time around.

I don't own GH3, but in GH2 there was a calibration tool.

From my experience, you need to adjust for lag on your system. The PS3 version seems very sensitive to this.
Start trying the lag calibration feature. Do it only by sound, not by looking. And then once it finds a number, try Barracuda at that setting, and manually adjust the setting up and down 5 or 10 ms and try those too. Find the number that works well for your TV and hope for the best.

I got it first day for 360, but I would not have bought it at all because this short supply bullshit is getting really fucking ridiculous...

Just a heads up for those who may want the PS3 Rock Band bundle: the online versions of Gamestop, EBGames, Best Buy, Buy.com, and Target are already sold out. Circuit City and Amazon still have copies available.
The manager of the largest GameStop in my area said they are getting 108 XBox 360 bundles and only 6 PS3 bundles (they had sold 78 360 bundles and 4 PS3 bundles on pre-order). One of the smaller stores is only expecting 2. The Rock Band scarcity hype could well be true...

The Walmart in my neighbourhood has stacks of 360 and PS2 GH3 bundle, I don't see it being scarce for holidays.
