It's official future rockstars, EA, Harmonix and MTV Games have just announced that development on Rock Band is complete and the game has gone gold. It is currently being whisked away to an undisclosed manufacturing plant to be pressed to disc and nestled next to its numerous peripherals all packaged in one giant box. Or at least some copies will. In the press release announcing Rock Band's gold status, EA also confirmed that the game will be available in two flavors this year, the $169 peripheral bundle and as a stand alone game for $59. And we're glad to see the two flavor confirmation, because for a while we've received mixed messages regarding how it would release to retail at launch. Rock Band will be available November 20th and now you have two purchasing options.
Rock Band is gold, game also sold separately

anyone know how much the drums and mic would be seperately?
I read somewhere that the drums would be about $100 seperately...
if so, I guess it would be worth just picking up the whole set and then selling off the guitar or something.

Why would you buy the game separately? Hasn't it already been confirmed that you can't buy the instruments outside of a bundle until 2008?

@neobergeron
i think it's for people who only want the game and a set of drums or the game and the microphone or any other instrument only.

That's just it. According to this article ( http://www.thebbps.com/blog/2007/10/11/rock-band-the-bundles-dlc-pricing-the-guitar-hero-stigma-disconnected-gaming-and-more/ ) there won't be any unbundled components available until 2008. I think Cory has it right. It's probably for people who have 360 GH3 guitars already.
Unfortunately, I only have PS2 guitars. So, it looks like the bundle for me.

Its gonne be $60 for the game, and $80 for the drums... thats 140. If you guys are seriously too cheap to dish out 30-40 for another guitar and mic then thats pretty bad.
I have no use for the mic and probably the guitar, but the value is definitely there for the 169 bundle. I'm picking up the bundle.

Also for people who want to go in on it with someone else... both have the game, but one get the bundle, one gets just the game and you can trade instruments... you play the drums for a week... then trade up a week later... etc.
I dunno who would do that... but I think I saw someone mentioning that gameplan.

So are the GH3 and rock band guitars going to work on each others games or not. I originally thought they would, but then I started hearing otherwise. Maybe the xplorer is the only that works on both?

Has anyone confirmed if the microphone is a special mic that is locked to the game? Im curious if you can use a standard USB microphone that can be used on any computer.

I just tried the Drumset at a Bestbuy and it was really cool. I play drumset so I was easily able to jump right to the hard diffuculty, so it's true what they say: it's just like playing real drums. I can even imagine people learning to play drumset by starting out on this thing. If only it weren't so big and expensive...
