Bungie drops some details on Halo 3 DLC
Over at Bungie's e-home, the newly liberated company has been releasing some details about the Halo 3 DLC that will be hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace at some point. Though some maps are earlier in the development process than others, they all sound pretty interesting.
The first is "O.K. Corral," an asymmetrical medium-sized map that Bungie's Luke Smith says has kind of a sunset feel with plenty of catwalks and alleyways. In addition to the briefly mentioned "Purple Reign" and "Jodrell Bank," we're also excited about "Vandelay," described as the simplest map the company's ever done, which has been crafted to show off the possibilities of the Forge system.
Sadly, Smith is pretty mum on when you'll get your chance to check the levels out, saying "Only a little bit of growing left to do before the frogs find their way to the stream." ... It makes sense in the context of his metaphor. Trust us.

jodrell bank? anything to do with the big bunch of radio telescopes in england?
Ethan @ Nov 7th 2007 6:13PM
If so there'll surely be some sort of scandal on how games are teaching our kids to go on rampages on school trips. Although I remember said trip was lots of fun, add guns? Perfect.
Shmil @ Nov 7th 2007 5:34PM
Vandelay? as in Art Vandelay the importer exporter?
Brandon Margicin @ Nov 7th 2007 5:49PM
Exactly Shmil. Exactly.
bounchfx @ Nov 7th 2007 10:10PM
Actually, I'm an architect.
Trev @ Nov 7th 2007 5:36PM
I know some folks that will be jumping with excitement. They might just croak if this DLC takes too long to show. Some other pun involving 'hopping'.
Don't forget to tip your waitress!

I dont care how many maps they release as long as we get atleast one that works well with rocket race.
rv @ Nov 7th 2007 5:52PM
Any vehicular map can work well with rocket race if you set it up correctly.
killploki @ Nov 7th 2007 5:50PM
lets hope they give us a couple for free.
Philip @ Nov 7th 2007 5:59PM
LOL, There is no way in hell these will be free. Remeber it's Micro$oft.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 7th 2007 6:01PM
If the Halo 2 mappacks were any indication, Microsoft is going to release them as packs you have to pay for and then a few months later they will be free.
DemonGSides @ Nov 7th 2007 7:21PM
Is Microsoft going to have so much control over them, since Bungie is a free entity?
Probably, but one can still hope.

Um, isn't this info from last Friday's Bungie weekly update? I thought they had actually announced release dates or something. Don't get me so excited!
rv @ Nov 7th 2007 6:06PM
Yeah, this is no real news. They've also had stuff about some maps on previous weekly updates as well.
DWells55 @ Nov 7th 2007 7:27PM
Yeah, not to be "OMG Joystiq r teh l8 newz!!1" but this is just last Friday's weekly Bungie update. This post got me excited that perhaps there were some recent solid details, but alas.
James @ Nov 7th 2007 5:52PM
You can see Jodrell Bank from my window, if it wasn't night.
Be awesome if they recreated it for Halo 3 so I can have a go at how much of a poor attempt it was (if they're anything like the foreign mess-ups in Resistence and Folklore).
dan stabbingworth @ Nov 7th 2007 6:18PM
I think a playlist update with more variety would be a great improvement.
Also, I'd like to see them import some of the better maps from Halo 1 and 2, and not just crap them out like they did with the last two maps they put out for Halo 2.
Brad Lee @ Nov 8th 2007 10:37AM
I agree. And I think some game types should just be canned entirely. "One-sided VIP?" Seriously, what were they thinking? I've never played a match where the VIP has lasted more than a minute and a half; every single time it's a tie.
If it's one thing I'm disappointed in about Halo 3's multiplayer is the lack of variety. I remember 2 had at least a *bit* more variety than this. What happened to the game mode (forget the name) where you just get two random weapons with infinite ammo?
I'd like at least a little more variety. Adding more maps is a start, but let's see some more game modes. How about Rockets and Hammers? That would be kinda amusing. Or a game mode where you have infinite of all grenades? I've never even seen the fire grenade in multiplayer.
Come on! Something! I'm sick of playing VIP and territories all the damn time, and I'm too cheap to buy a new game!
Brad Lee @ Nov 8th 2007 10:45AM
I thought of something else too. VIP wouldn't be so bad if there was even SOME kind of variety in the game mode itself.
How come every time the VIP just has an overshield and that god-awful-worthless Magnum? Why not make it a little more random, sometimes giving the VIP a shotgun, or a rocket launcher. Or instead of simply having an overshield, give the VIP increased running and a higher jump. Or a one-hit-kill melee attack? That way you can't just run up and punch the VIP a few times to kill him, which is so horrendously lame.
VIP in the beta was actually kinda fun, because the VIP was almost OVERpowered, instead of UNDERpowered, so it actually took strategy and teamwork to take him out. But now it's just lame.
Sorry for the bitching and ranting, but I ALWAYS seem to get this game mode. It's gotten to the point where I don't veto anything unless it's VIP, fearing that if I veto, I'd just get VIP.
HineyWipe @ Nov 8th 2007 3:00PM
All I ever hear is VETO VETO VETO VETO (expletive) VETO VETO (racial comment) VETO VETO Hit VETO!!! X X X X X VETO!
F1 @ Nov 7th 2007 6:13PM
I really cant wait for this DLC to come in
Kengro @ Nov 7th 2007 6:23PM
Give me a working assult rifle and i'll keep my mouth shut
dan stabbingworth @ Nov 7th 2007 8:40PM
What about the assault rifle doesn't work? It's a serious improvement over the SMG and all the large maps have battle rifles liberally placed around the map. The only map which should really have a BR start is sandtrap, and even that is questionable.
kastonie @ Nov 7th 2007 6:27PM
Bungie should make a chocolate rain map instead of a purple rain map...and have the 8 bit remix of the song playing the whole time.... yea that would be awesome...
Ed @ Nov 7th 2007 7:23PM
Some will stay dry, others will feel the pain.
Scott @ Nov 7th 2007 6:50PM
What is this game? Oh yeah, Halo 3...I remember that game..............
***goes back to playing Call of Duty 4***
Ed @ Nov 7th 2007 7:29PM
and this is a testament towards how fickle modern day gamers are.
ill trooper @ Nov 7th 2007 9:56PM
...as well as a statement about how generic and replaceable Halo is for some, like myself. Not my thing, really... But if you like it, more power to you.
Scott @ Nov 8th 2007 7:12PM
Wow...I don't comment much. I got dimmed a bit.
COOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.
Did I hurt someone's Halo feelings?
Dahk @ Nov 7th 2007 7:00PM
I only want to see you laughing in the purple reeiiign.
PURPLE REIGN, PURPLE REIGN. *screams in a high pitched voice"

Am I the only one who misses Bloodgulch?
dan stabbingworth @ Nov 8th 2007 12:16AM
yes
