OK, so there's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that the Guitar Hero III skills that you've worked so hard to cultivate could actually nab you a big prize: A 2008 Pontiac G5. The bad news: All of the stops in the Pontiac Garage Guitar Hero III tournament will be held ... inside Hot Topics.
Although GHIII is fine and you could probably survive being in Hot Topic, playing Guitar Hero III within the walls of a Hot Topic actual conscripts you into an emo band. It's true: A spectral version of Morrissey appears and eats all but .5 percent of your body fat, tears pre-caked in eyeliner spurt from your eyes and members of Jimmy Eat World chloroform you and force you to play bass. It's a nightmare.
If it's worth the risk to you you can see all the details here. But we think we'll stay at home and put our eyeliner on by ourselves, thank you very much.

Morrissey? Emo? When was the last time you were in a Hot Topic? What is this 2004?

Done! First page, top apparel page, the new page, etc... I'm just tired of people of overusing emo. So suck it up, get out of the house and play GH3 at the mall or don't, who cares.

Oop! Found one. Unfortunately he's wearing a gay rainbow neo-hippie drug rug, so clowndom has still be attained.

Jimmy Eat World is pretty far off from an emo band.

Actually, JEW is one of the original and true emo bands. The emo that we have come to associate with Hot Topic is the sad commercialized emo that was bastardized by major label record companies and MTV.
Read Nothing Feels Good by Andy Greenwald to learn what emo was supposed to be about. Emo has nothing to do with eyeliner.

Jimmy Eat World? Emo? Never even made that connection. Bah, they're still a good band no matter what genre they fall into.
And I've never even seen a hot topic before. I get the feeling that I'm blessed.

They fall into mediocre bands.
I don't understand why people call that kind of music "rock".
Where are the high pitch voices, the guitar solos, the virtuosity in the intruments?
Fuck the new rock, fuck Nirvana, fuck MTV music.

Fernando, I Can't agree with your attack on those bands - especially towards Nirvana. MTV has blown for a long time, but them playing a band does not make the band and MTV one in the same.
As far as Hot Topic - I couldn't imagine going there to play in a tourney.

Much as I dislike JEW, I've gotta say, Static Prevails is a pretty solid album.

Well, what bothers me is that, since Nirvana appears, everyone try to do the same kind of music, and they are mediocre... they dont apport nothing to music... is the easiest band to play, with zero talent.

Where are the bands like Dio, where is Don Dokken, Deep Purple, where are the Sebastian Bach voices, or the voices like Bruce Dickinson. the long hair, the virtuosity of Randy Rhoads, the bass players like Billy Sheen, or the beautiful songs of Steve Vai?

They are in museums. Because they're fucking relics.
Embrace change, Fernando. It'll all be okay.

Well, at least I have my old vinyl records that my dad gave to me, with good music, and I hope someday, when I have a son, he and I will listen to some great music, and we will be the difference between real rockers and ficking possers emos.
(Right now listening to Stryper... you should listen to them baby sea tuna, and learn to listen good music)

Nirvana? Kurt died 13 years ago. I don't see how Nirvana pioneering grunge 16 years ago is to blame for the emo craze you see now.

Fernando, even back in the day when Dokken, Dio, Anthrax, and Helloween were popular, everyone thought Stryper sucked. Because they did.
Music is always a matter of MTV or radio making one band huge and dozens of smaller bands mimicking their sound in order to ride the wave of popularity. Even *before* Nirvana, it happened with motown, it happened with rock, it happened with disco, it happened with new wave, and it happened with 80's metal.

Uh, Fernando, I'm 30. You don't need to "school" me on 80s cock rock. I was into it the first time around.
And for the record, Stryper blew Jesus dick back then too.

I have to agree with baby sea tuna on the Stryper debate. I was really into Christian groups and even in my circle of friends we mocked Stryper.
Seems the only band I can recall from my Christian music days is Argyle Park. Which was more industrial than rock. Oh wait...Five Iron Frenzy...flipin SKA music...

I'm surprised Hot Topic of all places would host an event that can technically fall under the category of 'pop'.
It'll be funny though to see the throngs of 'preps' and 'nerds' and 'geeks' crowding a store for GH3 that they would never step foot in otherwise.

The word Emo has become so overused, no one knows what it means no more. When people start putting Jimmy Eat World and Fallout Boys in the same field Chemical Romance and such, you cant' help but wonder if the criteria is "makeup".

Cars as prizes suck. Yes, it's great to win, but you've got to pay taxes on it as though it was income. Although whoever wins this thing will probably have no other income, so it won't be too bad. But still...

here's to hoping that the person that wins shows up wearing a "Hot Topic is for Douchebags" t shirt

Wow, Guitar Hero sold out so hard. I still can't get over the fact they're in a licensing deal with PONTIAC. Because shitty car companies have a lot to do with music.

DONT TALK SHIT ABOUT JIMMY EAT WORLD!
...im not kidding that i was listening to their new album as i read this.
and yes, jimmy eat world was 2nd wave midnineties emo, following fugazi, but that is as stated above, TOTALLY different from what emo is today. emo is not even a style of music anymore, bands that are catagorized as emo often are not similar at all. emo is a style. a trend. not a kind of music. not anymore.
jimmy eat world's first 2 albums were emo, with bleed american and forward being different and the emo tag having been dropped.
and to the one wondering how JEW is considered rock with the lack of guitar solos, you should really listen to them. they have a huge variety of sound, and if you want some cool solos, though nothing to compare to that of van halen, aerosmith, lynyrd skynyrd and the likes, look into their songs "pain," "get it faster(not actually a guitar solo i guess though, since the 2 guitars alternate)," "bleed american," "nothingwrong," and im sure you have heard "the middle." infact, just check out their 2001 album, "Bleed American." its got some rockin tunes and lyrics that give credit to great rock n roll.
sorry about that...i am very passionate about my favorite band.
and i agree, we need some motherfucking JOURNEY in guitar hero.
