
Since this is the first time they've attempted making a game on the PS3, there were hurdles and difficulties in adjusting to the system. IO Interactive's Morten Heiberg explains: "It's a challenging platform to develop on, but it's also one that has a lot of potential that's just waiting to be unlocked as people get to know it better and as developers get more skilled at utilising the machine." Why is it so different and difficult? Apparently the code looks very different after being run through the Cell processor once ported from another version of the game (360, PC).
Still, that's not to say Heiberg and crew were discouraged. There is no difference between the versions of the game, he says, and despite the additional efforts and resources needed to optimize the PS3 version, the staff enjoys the PS3's architecture, because it is so different. "... I think most developers are rather keen on getting into because it's a new fresh system and it's an interesting architecture. Development wise it's fun." We hope to hear more positive responses about the PS3 in the near future!
