Kaz Hirai 'not satisfied' with current version of Home
1UP got their mitts on the latest issue of Famitsu Weekly, in which they interviewed Sony's man with the plan, Kaz Hirai. Since we don't have our copy handy just now and our Japanese translator is out sick with a terrible case of invisibility, we'll just have to settle for 1UP's highlight reel, notable for some particularly refreshing bouts of candor from PlayStation's top dog. When asked about the delay of Home announced at the Tokyo Game Show, Kaz responds, "I personally am not satisfied with the current version of Home. This is a very big project for the PS3 and we want to make sure that we deliver to our hearts content." It should come as no surprise that Kaz isn't happy with where Home's at; otherwise, they wouldn't have made the hard decision to push it back past the holidays.
Also covered is the 40GB model and its absence of backwards compatibility, PS3 price drops, Monster Hunter III, the sale of the Cell processor manufacturing facilities, and the company's plans for the holiday. Most interesting is Kaz's response to the last question: "Returning to Japan, I have done my best in the given limited amount of time. Not everything I envision has turned out 100% but we as a company have worked together towards our goals." How's that for candor?

gonk....do you honestly have anything better to do than write sarcastic comments?

I enjoy Gonk's pithy opines.

"Not everything I envision has turned out 100%..."
Really?
coolforever4537 @ Nov 7th 2007 9:55PM
When he says that you know Sony is in trouble.
ssuk @ Nov 8th 2007 6:33AM
I think that quote can be wrapped to the PS3 in general.
Jack @ Nov 8th 2007 1:05PM
So now you're going to knock him for telling the truth? At least he had the balls to say it. I mean this is the guy that has to pick up Ken's mess. KEN! Jeez, cut him some slack.
At least he's being more upfront than Phil Harrison, Nintendo, and Microsoft when it comes to their problems.
gonk @ Nov 7th 2007 9:41PM
ooh might as well post this for those that haven't seen it yet, it's funny :)

Hi... long time no see!
Well... we are in a very good shape:
Excellent reviews from Mario Galaxy (9.7 in IGN, 9.5 in Gamespot, and and average of 96 in Metacritic).
Second place in Guitar Hero 3 sales (we have only the bundle, and 360 and PS2 have the option of the game alone, so, it was good sales for us)
For two consecutive weeks, the Wii sales oversold the 360 here in USA.
So, everything is a-ok, and the plan of Master Shigeru is marching good.
Kye (NDF - Earth Ring) @ Nov 8th 2007 5:39AM
Thanx Fernando R.
Good work, keep it up.
sheppy2.0 @ Nov 8th 2007 8:07AM
You know, Fernando. You're slipping back into your previous state of moronic trolling. I would watch it. We'd hate to see Ludwig Kietzman ban you again and Kye actually believe he shoudl have more say over who is allowed to post here than the ACTUAL writers for Joystiq.
Synner @ Nov 8th 2007 9:04AM
Sheppy,
I'd rather read fernando's moronic tripe than yours.
I recommend a user poll to vote on banning people every month - survivor style. For the first month I nominate

I wonder what it's like to be in the games division at Sony and have to sit through the meetings where decisions are made.
If I had to be apart of that, I would be really, really, really high. They would be like, "Are you high?" and I would respond "Oh my God, you can talk! Pass them chips and some Game Fuel please."
Rob Accomando @ Nov 7th 2007 10:14PM
I think his visions were unrealistic.
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Nov 7th 2007 10:18PM
I think he was high when he came with the idea of the PS3.
Sentry Gun (Jesus) @ Nov 7th 2007 10:36PM
some of the best ideas were thought of while people were high
Rainbow colored tigers for example

"some of the best ideas were thought of while people were high"
Ahh I see... so, he thought that he was high, but it was oregano! That explains the PS3 idea.
plyx @ Nov 8th 2007 1:41AM
Ken Kutaragi is the guy you're talking about. Jesus Christ.
deaftly @ Nov 8th 2007 10:29AM
oh fernando just quit it with the ps3 bashing, it was fun you know like last year. im finally getting one this week just to play ratchet. i will finally have the trifecta of gaming this generation. first time ever i believe. gotta love not missing out on any good games at all.
Lone Starr @ Nov 7th 2007 10:30PM
Obviously, Father Kaz realizes Home is lacking in the Riiiiiiiiiidge Raaaacer department.
Iacobus @ Nov 7th 2007 10:42PM

F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Nov 7th 2007 10:46PM

FraGNeM @ Nov 8th 2007 2:07AM
I bet he wants to charge five hundred ninety-nine US dollars for it.
deaftly @ Nov 8th 2007 10:30AM
what the hell , is this 2005?
ColossalHat @ Nov 7th 2007 10:45PM
My opinion of Home, a complete and utter waste of time and effort. But hey, I'm also a guy who hates WoW, achievements that don't unlock anything useful, and the microtransaction model of business.
I feel their efforts would be better used in just about anything else, such as PS2 emulation software. But what do I know?
Trev @ Nov 7th 2007 11:38PM
+ for being the only person I see here making non-troll comments.
I agree about the achievements. I don't see the point in some e-peen number. Is anyone going to care what it is for any purpose other than trash talk if theirs is higher?
PS2 emulation software would be good, but given my current scramble to finish COD4 before Assassin's Creed next week, then that before ... Uncharted? I forget if there's another game in between, but I'm pretty set on games. Even with a 60gb that can play PS2 games, I just don't do it, though I can see the added convenience for people that don't have ps2s and get 40gb models then want to play old games.
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Nov 7th 2007 11:17PM
There is no HOME! It's all just lies by sony. Nobody can make something that complex! That's why he's not satisfied with it because it doesn't EXIST!
-Nah, just messin. Home probably has a lot of glitches/bugs and is unstable. But seriously Playstation needs to get its act together.
F. Rocker or Fernando R.? @ Nov 7th 2007 11:33PM
The Home is a lie.
vidGuy @ Nov 8th 2007 1:38AM
Kaz, don't feel alone. Even some diehard Playstation fans are 'not satisfied' with anything the PS3 does.
plyx @ Nov 8th 2007 1:51AM
I can't wait until the PS3 has its day. I'm so sick of reading all of the negative and downright hateful comments towards the PS3.
gonk @ Nov 8th 2007 2:36AM
well at least you ps3 owners are already used to waiting
*badum-psh!*
