Massively underwhelming and completely undeserving of a 2.0 label. It doesn't matter how many details/screenshots you guys have, those bullet points say everything!
Oh and will people PLEASE stop looking for customisable soundtracks, Sony have already stated that that functionality has been included for months, and that it's up to developers whether they use it or not.

Why can't people be happy to just get an update?
They haven't said what the entire update includes so we really don't know...

I know everyone is wanting an in-game XMB, but if custom soundtrack is up to the game developers, why else would this be useful?

What does in-game XMB let you accomplish really?

Please enlighten me

Sounds like this isn't the whole story (which is a good thing!) ...hopefuly.
I want profile 1.1 support more than everything else but in game XMB was an expectation for the big 2.0 and we already knew rumble would be included. Remote is cool but not worthy of headlining an update.
Here's to hoping there's a longer list because the currentlist isn't good enough after all the hype.

@6 The ability to chat/ locate friends on the PSN while in game for starters. And Sony really needs to give it's users not it's developers the choice whether to use in game soundtracks or not. This feature has been available on the Xbox for ages.

ok, so really everyone just wants the friends and the music icons, not the whole XMB bar.

That makes more sense to me.

As long as everygame come with an option to turn off in-game music but leave the in-game sound fx on then this should be something that Sony could and should do.

Thanks gamingeek

this is a lame update. I guess reading all the blogs and comments from past write ups on 2.0 i thought It was going to be something Massive. This is more like a 1.97 update. When you change numbers from 1 to 2 thats suppose to be a massive upgrade and this is not.

None of which came from Sony themselves.

@6. Yes, like someone said earlier, I think people just want a few select features, not the ENTIRE xmb bar. With the 360 for example, you can't change any system settings from in game, but you can send messages, receive messages, send game invites, and look at your friends list from in game. Thats what most of us want (I think).

Music and photo playlists sounds good. Remote start is better. Don't know what "information board" means. At first blush this does not sound deserving of a 2.00 update.

Some new codecs (divx/xvid) would have been really nice, or does Microsoft have an agreement in place with DivX consortium in supply of these codecs to the egssbox?

If those are the only features this FW upgrade contains then an option to opt-out of the FW upgrade would be nice.

Lee, even if that's true, its sill more of a 1.9x update not a x.0 with the present list of features.

Oh my, this could get ugly. I'm still a touch surprised there's no mention of a BD 1.1 profile, so I'm hoping there's still some stuff left. I don't suppose you could let us know when your NDA is up, or do you not want to melt your poor webserver? ;)

I think we need to remind everyone that none of the previous feature lists that popped up were confirmed features or promised features from Sony. They were rumors, nothing more. That said, I'd love to have friends lists in-game. Custom soundtracks, not so much. I seem to only enjoy hearing my own music during mindless casual games - the exact sort of game I bought a PS3 not to play. I can't fathom why I'd want to listen to the new Kanye West while playing Assassin's Creed.

I dont think this will be the last update this year.

i dont see any reason to doubt that 2.0 is the "core" for many other updates to come.

I also think we will be in the 2.** for a lot longer than we were in the 1.**

@18

All I was saying was that Joystiq was likely quoting what PS3Fanboy had not yet posted, because they had a chance to read it already. Proof is in the pudding, it's a direct quote from the exclusive.

WTF…i dont care in Custom XMB and Playlist or Remote turn on…give me a fu***g in-game-access.
PS3 is a GAME console….people use it for PLAYING games…not for LISTEN MUSIC…c’mon! I’m really frustrated…

@6 your right in Game-XMB is pointless and Useless ,

and also both XMB in-game and Custom music is already possible and is in the devs hands to enable or not. SIMPLY Put game companies don't get these recording artiss handing them music for free, and the artist want to be HEARD!

What a load of trash this firmware 2.0 is? This sounds more like FW 1.95.
Where is in game xmb which Sony I quote promised us back in July would be included in the next major firmware update. Are they trying to say Firmware 2.0 isn't major or something.
No, seriously Sony need to seriously buck up their ideas and fast. In game xmb, no matter what anyone says, is the most eagally awaited feature for the PS3 at the moment and the Xbox 360 has had this feature since it first launched back in 2005 and the 360 is supposed to be 'less powerful' than the PS3. If this is the case, why can't Sony add a simple thing like in game xmb? I know why, it's because the xmb is so bloody memory consuming, they should have thought about all this memory consumption of the xmb media bar when they were developing the PS3 from the beginning.
My guess is now Sony can't give us in game xmb because it's too powerful to impliment, which is a complete load of bull.
Pardon my language, but I'm hugely disapointed with Sony and I was so looking forward to playing my ps3 games with my own music and chatting to my friends while playing games. Sony better buck up their ideas soon or I will be trading in the ps3 before xmas.

Lots of complaints about lack of in game XMB access and customized soundtracks but like others here, I don't care about that. Remote on/off much more important. The other features would be nice, sure. But not so important.

Sounds to me like this XMB/Custom Soundtrack outcry is more a case of "X-Box has that" than any real need for PS3 gamers.

Sure it would be nice to do in-game chat, but if you have a headset, why is it necessary? I'd rather use my voice to communicate with other players than have to type while playing and also have to read dumb "Pwned!!!" messages anyway.

People without X-Boxes don't really know about this and could care less. Those of you so upset: if it's so important - go play your X-Box
