Now SNK has confirmed that it is bundling all four games in the franchise, including World Heroes, World Heroes 2, World Heroes 2 Jet, and World Heroes Perfect, together in a new compilation for the PlayStation 2. The collection, released last month in Japan as World Heroes Gorgeous, will be released in the U.S. in spring 2008 under the much less interesting name of World Heroes Anthology. With the PS2 on its way out, we can't help but admire SNK's efforts to keep the old girl on life support, while simultaneously frustrating those of us who forked over the geld to import the game originally thinking it wouldn't make an appearance stateside. Patience, it would seem, is a virtue.
World Heroes collection for PS2 coming next spring

I used to like this game back in the day, but now it looks goofy. What about Samurai Showdown for XBLA?

Samurai Showdown was the shit back when I was a kid. I remember playing that all the time. More than most fighters.
Well that and Clay Fighter.

Only thing left from the NeoGeo Online Battler catalog is Samurai Spirits now. As much as I want to bitch that these anthologies are coming stateside minus online, the fact that they are coming at all in addition to how online just doesn't seem to fit fighting games (IMO) more than makes up for it.
Also, fleeced much? I snagged my online battler copies for $25 imported.

the shitty side of the 1990's street fighter rip offs. This game was awful, but i was playing any fighting games i could get my hands on when i was a kid, though. This game got my quarters many times over.

Too bad for PS3ers! Or is it.....World Heroes kinda sucks. A compilation of SS, FF, AOF, and WHs would be better. And don't forget 3 Count Bout!

It's not like new PS3 owners can play it anyway.

They say Spring, but they mean Fall. All their releases get delayed by several months.
That said I'm looking forward to this collection, as well as SNK-P's other releases. I already bought Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury volume 1, and I was surprised at the quality of the emulation and extra music (though I felt ripped off because of the lack of real extras.)

F#($&% YEAH World Heroes! Although... World Heroes Perfect is the only version worth playing, really...
Still, if you're not a fighting game snob you should find World Heroes hilarious and fun to play. I mean.. it has Mudman. MUDMAN.

If it's really, really cheap I'll probably bite. I used to rock with Rasputin... man, I remember when they had a Neo-Geo machine in the pizza parlor. I think it was on a punishing difficulty setting (or I just sucked remarkably badly, compared to e.g. MK or SF), because with anybody but Rasputin I could never get past the second fight.

World Heroes Perfect is actually a very solid fighter. Though, I'm sure the bulk of you have little competitive fighting game experience, Perfect is worth a try.

btw, I won the side tournament for this at Evolution 2007 in vegas (with rasputin!), so I'm kinda biased. Being the US Champion of something makes you find the good in it pretty quickly. But the runner up and I have been digging deep into this game, and we are finding what feels like a mix between Darkstalkers and Super Turbo. Its surpisingly balanced, and very easy to play (forgiving inputs).
