A new Wii channel called the Check Mii Out Channel launches Nov. 11, allowing Wii owners a venue to show off their Mii creations and vote on others. Users download the program for free from the Wii Shop. The channel will have a "Posting Plaza" where users can "submit, exchange or just browse." They''ll be able to look at a random selection of 1,000 Miis or see community favorites, there will also be the ability to tag favorites and import them onto their Wii.
There is also a contest section on the Check Mii Out Channel allowing users to submit their own creation based on a theme like a fictional or historical figure. There's no explanation of what these people win ... bragging rights? We'd be more excited about this if the Miis actually did something in the last year -- although that seems to be changing. Oh well, at least there's Mario Galaxy next week.

Is this stuff actually enticing to Wii owners? Not flamebate, I just don't see the entertainment value.

Probably not to the community of wii owners that post here. I mean, I don't really care about it, nor do I care about the everybody votes channel.
But thats just me. Unlike most folks, I realize that these channels aren't for me, they're for my mom or my grandmom. The Channels Nintendo has for me are ones like the MP3 preview channel.

Gold pants...
isn't there something in the Mii code that allows them to have gold pants (I think some hackers figured this out), but as of yet nobody has figured out for what purpose? Perhaps the winners get gold pants...

Hasn't the novelty of Miis died off now? Its really nintendo's fault for no one really caring about Miis anymore. They hardly did anything with them, so the nintendo faithful just pretended it was a promise never made.
I mean, hasn't everyone seen enough Mii Michael Jacksons, Mii Dr. Zoidbergs, and Mii Southpark characters?

My only beef with Miis is that they never added to the Mii channel. It is impossible to make certain people due to the small selection. They really should add more haircuts, skin tones, hair colors, etc.
Also are they going to edit the names? I mean a lot of people, esp with Indian or Pakistani names, are spelled to resemble English curses. It would be bullshit to see them removed.
And hey, some people out there ARE named Adolf, I wonder if those will get removed.

Wow, a lot of hate on this. I'm looking forward to it as a chance to get my family interested in the miis again. You'd be surprised at the casual gamer's interest. My sister still does everybody votes pretty religiously.

Woohoo I can look at other peoples Mii's.
On the day PS3 releases an update that allows me to switch on my PS3 from anywhere in the world and view all my media on it Nintendo announce this.
I have a Wii before I get flamed. I like it a lot and enjoy playing (from time to time) the limited games that are available but nintendo have been lazy this year in providing anything to give the Wii longevity. They are riding the wave of Wii Sports and new gamer markets but are ignoring the important part of the machine. Content !

Keep in mind that Nintendo's philosophy is to keep it simple for anyone to use, and to treat it's consoles as game consoles, not media devices.

Then give me games. Give me online games I can play against my kids who live away from me and my sister. I want to play Wii Olympics online against my friend and remotely cut him in two with a Wii lightsabre.
The ONE online game has awful functionality. Enter 20 digit codes. Not sure if they're online so you have to call them first. Can't chat to them while playing either.
There are no games of any real quality (Zelda was an exception).
Keeping it simple is one thing. doing nothing new is something else entirely...

well said on both accounts sgaffney. me and you are in the same boat as PSWii/WiiS3 owners and i honestly havent touched my Wii since the last firmware update cause it was flashing blue. my PS3, on the other hand, i use everyday. it has plenty of games out now that i like and a bunch more coming before years end. while the lone Wii game im looking forward to is Super Mario Galaxy since SSBB got delayed.
i mean when my PS3 didn't have any good games, at least i could use it for DVD upscaling and music and such, but my Wii just sits and collects dust. it sucks not being the target audience anymore. they are really riding the hell outta this new casual gamer.

I always hated the limited selection of clothing. You have a small set of shirt colors and then you pretty much have two colors of pants.
I can't see the long term enjoyment to this new feature. But to those that enjoy Mii creation I'm sure they'll love this new channel.

I love this whole, "I'm so macho that I can't possibly like this channel so I'm going to pretend that I'm happy that it gives my girlfriend/mother/grandmother/aunt/female something to do."
Well I, for one, am happy that the check me out channel is coming. I'm not going to pretend that to be a man, you have to like Halo. That's probably because I'm the only grownup here.
