Yeah, that's what we need, somebody running around with a butterfly knife in their sleeve. No, wait, better still: someone teaching other people how to make one for themselves!
sheesh...

Don't call me a downer or an old man, but it's this sort of thing that gives video gamers a black eye. Nobody needs a retractable shank, let alone a knife..honestly..

If he wants to imitate a video game character, go eat a mushroom, bro. It's illegal too, but at least you only harm yourself..

Richard, I really don't suggest posts like this need to be offered..it only proliferates illegal actions, because only the idiots would actually MAKE something like this..because only idiots would USE something like this.

Then again..Kyle Reese taught me how to conceal a sawed-off shotgun under a grimy trenchcoat..I use that daily.... (sigh)

is that first video related to Assasins creed at all? I mean I know the blade is similar, but this doesn't seem to be an AS homage, more like just some creepy Columbine kid crying for help. Very disturbing.

maybe he lives in a tough neighborhood...

and mushrooms aren't actually that harmful. they're far less toxic than weed and the most danger you face is lack of supervision.

- less toxic ... ok maybe, but i had a friend who (while tripping on some amazing laboratory-grown mushrooms) slit both of his wrists and was going for his jugular before our sitter was able too stop him. he ate 3.5 grams (which is a fairly normal dose for field mushrooms, not lab-grown though), everyone else just ate 1g and we were good and sprung.

Tell your friend he's retarded and should learn how to use drugs and what they do to you before putting them into your body. If shrooms made him want to slit his wrists/neck there's something wrong there in the first place.

to tell the truth i think the retractable wrist blade is a cool idea and is more dangerous to the untrained then anyone else of course people shouldn't own these things but then a sword or knife or even a gun is just as deadly and less harmful to the untrained individule. me i would make one if i wasn't too lazy too and no i don't intend to use it on anyone though it would help me out seeing as how i'm a delivery driver and if someone tried to rob me (as someone else stated) *shink* *splat* but then i grew up in a small city and currently live in a big town so everything dangerous here is nothing compared to what i grew up with (although the knife up the sleeve would be hours of fun seeing as how i'm just a big kid and would probably cut up a tree or fence pretending it's some big bad boss on a video game lol)

-So Inspector Bob, what do we have here?

- Looks like a suicide to me. Some random guy made a fan-based knife from a videogame, and slit his wrists. These kids, Joes... Always find new, original ways to kill off themselves.

-Indeed Bob... Indeed."

the funny thing about the lego one is, with enough work. a actual blade can replace the white part.

Not that i'm suggesting it. its just that its not the "perfect non-lethal" solution, Lol.

I agree - can we please have this post/video removed? Despite the fact that you somehow see this as some kind of "homage" to Assassin's Creed, you are giving this guy page hits on his YouTube page, all for what? Let's call it like it is, here - it is a person who purposely made a retractable weapon that COULD be used to brutally murder someone. Now I'm not really a control advocate per se, but I see this is as quite different from an instructional video on how to use a firearm. There should be NO good reason why we should be giving this guy attention. This is also different from simply carrying a knife on your person, as well. Case in point:
- Retractable and attached to arm which can deploy quickly and be concealed just as quickly utilizing a custom-made mechanism.

Let's also not forget that the supposed inspiration for this is based on a video game where the character ASSASSINATES PEOPLE.

Again, I consider myself a normally conservative person, but something about this video just doesn't sit right with me. Just as T.I.'s charges are much more serious because of the silencers on the guns he received, this custom-designed retractable nonsense makes the case look a bit different than simply carrying a knife in your pocket. It is designed, by nature, for offensive intent.

Last point, X3F: All of us feel pretty strongly that video games get a bad rap in being blamed for a lot of stuff that goes on in society - violence, etc. Yet here we have a perfect example of real life ACTUALLY IMITATING the art and entertainment that we love - the very thing that we say doesn't necessarily translate when we play games. I mean, we all mock Jack Thompson and some elected officials all the time for trying to connect the dots between GTA and violence in schools, and yet you are basically doing their homework for them, here. Anybody could easily send this to some yahoo Congressman and have the conversation start all over again.

To tell you the truth I'm a little surprised that nobody even thought of ANY of this before posting the vid and giving this guy unwarranted attention.

You know, some people do collect weapons as a hobby... So I don't really see how this is that big of a deal. Give the guy a break, he's just trying to share his hobby with us. It unfortunate that some people just assume that someone would want to use this to harm others, rather than just display it as a work of art.

I haven't actually seen the video yet, so if someone knows where I can find it let me know. YouTube, for some inane reason, has taken it down.

Good on you guys for taking it down.

For those of you that thought it wasn't a big deal...Obviously you either too young or not mature enough to realize that displaying a video that shows how to make (the material anyways) a weapon that can be easily hidden and used to "easily" kill someone, is just not smart/right. I don't think Joystiq wants to wake up and read the paper one morning, and read that some kid killed another kid with a weapon he learned how to make through 360fanboy! It wasn't just a good moral move to take it down, it was also a good business move.
