Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced its 2007 holiday lineup for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Network and PlayStation Portable. The full list (posted after the break) contains every released and unreleased title the publisher expects to add to the cacophony of "Buy me!" screams echoing throughout the aisles this festive season.
Highlights includes the cringe-inducing PAIN, stealth saga Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus and Lara Croft gender bender, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for PS3. You'll also spot a burst of confidence regarding the timely arrival of one Unreal Tournament III, despite the fact that publisher Midway has written it off for 2007. Is Epic Games going to perform an unlikely Unreal miracle, or did someone miss the memo?

I see where you're coming from Vid but i'm just the opposite, there's lots for me to play on my PS3/360 yet almost next to nothing for me to play on my Wii other than SMG and SSB next year.
and even with SMG coming out, i totally see the next two months of my gaming, MOSTLY on my PS360. What with CoD4/AC/Uncharted/Haze on my PS3 and WWE/Mass Effect/Kane and Lynch on my 360. Defintaly going to be a full plate for a while.
But really if you're gonna harp on PS3 for having play out old formula stuff, wouldnt that apply to just about EVERYTHING coming out anytime soon? I mean yeah every platformer cant be a mario and every FPS cant hit the sweet spot like Halo, but that doesnt automatically invalidate things.
That'd be like me passing on the Wii SIMPLY because the whole system is geared towards a gimmick and granted i dont play it much, but i've never regreted my purchase.

That's cool that you have the PS3 and 360, there's a lot of crossover, but there's a lot of exclusive games that make them both worth owning.
I had to make the 360 OR PS3 decision and went with the 360 for a ton of reasons. The Wii is a great compliment, and there's not much crossover with the 360. I already have more games for the Wii than I had for the GC or have for the 360, even though I've owned it longer. It really just depends on what types of games you are interested in.
But just as each system has its weaknesses, each game library can be questioned from some angle.
I think Sony has finally pulled the right strings now. I just wonder how many gamers are like me, too disappointed in the PS3 already and too into the other systems to care about it now.

vidGuy, here's my rebuttal. When I finally got my 360 back for the fifth time, my patience officially died. I sold the unit and kept my games and hard drive, maybe I'll reinvest during tax return time but for me, I'm so fed up with the hardware, I'm not even paying attention to 360. Many games that I like are going multiplat so 360 IS avoidable if you previously owned all three. And to top it all off, most of the games I play on PS3 online run lag free no matter how many players. I mean, on 360, I was PAYING for a buddy list. That's it. The users are hosting the games so I'm essentially paying MS to handle online the exact same way every other game system does and it chokes in most game that go over 8 players until weeks, sometimes months, down the road.
PS3, meanwhile, is running damn fine and getting some very good games including Haze (which I was interested in until I read an article at gamasutra, now I'm fucking hyped) so many people claim you're missing out unless you have a 360. Personally, I'm not feeling it right now and considering I no longer have to deal with the indignity of you system shutting down in the middle of a great game (still haven't beaten Bioshock... sealed copy of Halo 3 on my shelf), it's a great relief. There are some things I wish I could play but frankly, when I had my system refurbished five times, I had to cut the chord and flush that mishapen baby down the prom hall tiolet.
I mean, I hate to sound harsh about it but with each passing month, 360 is looking less appealing to me.

@FidliousWong,
Yeah, that's perfectly understandable. I had the same thing happen with my two PS2s, with the second one only lasting 13 months. My 360 red-ringed once, it's pretty pathetic that MS rushed the system so much that it launched with such wide-spread hardware problems. But now I'm back in business and haven't had any problems since. I don't notice any lag while gaming online, but it's probably since I only spend about 10% of my gaming time there.
I get your position and if the games are right for you, by all means. I just find it interesting to see the huge power shift in the market and how diverse the systems have really become. Even the crossover games offered on both the 360 and PS3 don't provide the same experience anymore.

I'll stick to just owning a PS3 b/c it seems like enough good titles are coming out for it this holiday season and next year. I still can't figure out how people have time or money to own two or three consoles. I can see how the Wii offers something a little bit different but the game selection is as sparse as the Gamecube and the 360 and PS3 share a lot of the same titles, so if you don't own a 360 or PS3 you might as well just pick a camp.

I agree with you, i never got how people had the time or money (or importantly, time) to own more than 1 console and 1 handheld at a time, and not feel like they were seriously missing out based on difficult choices
My plate, composed wholly of Wii & DS games, is overloaded, well into next year

Half of these will be delayed into 08...no doubt.

It's called the bait & switch tactic. They will get consumers to buy their console and then they will be "informed" that UT3 has been "delayed". This will happen by a consumer looking for the game, doesn't see it at the store, asks the clerk, they tell the consumer "It is coming out in 2008." Consumer says "oh." and that's that. Sony already made their money with bait & switch.
In other words, they will lie to make a sale.

Uhh... No, that hypothetical scenario you just described isn't a bait 'n switch tactic. First of all, it would have to be Sony actually doing it, so you would have to go to the Sony store (not BB, Target, Wal-mart, etc.) and secondly, it would have to involve a cheaper product which is used to lure a customer and is then essentially tricked/"duped" into getting a more expensive (but similar) product.
In any case, I think the PSTRIPLE has been slowly building up a worthwhile library since Sept. I have all 3 (next-gen) systems, and between the 3 the PSTRIPLE gets most (if not all) of my gaming time, and I have less than half the number of games compared to the other systems. The Wii has been collecting dust and the 360 I turn on when I read/hear of a new demo, that's about it.

Actually, no.
Bait and switch requires two products. It would be like someone advertising the sale of a Brand A thing for a great price, but then really only providing some Brand B product for purchase at either a higher price, or the same cost with a higher profit for the seller.
Technically, the increased profit isn't required for it to be bait and switch, but it makes little sense to make them buy something that would get you less money.
Provided the game doesn't make it out for the holiday season, they'd have the 'bait' (and then only if they totally confirm that UT3 has launched when it hasn't), but they still wouldn't have the 'switch' since UT3 wasn't going to effect the sale of other games; they all would have been on the shelf anyway.

It's the same concept. You promise something and deliver another (or in this case, DON'T deliver). I get that you are taking the term very literally, but it works the same for the consumer. They get you in there with a promise and switch it up on you. :)

True, I see your point. I took what you wrote too literal. =P In any case, I REALLY hope UT3 comes out by year's end. I'll only have enough time for one FPS and UT3 is the one I'm holding out for; CoD4 & Haze are the (only) other ones I want.

I think that owning a 360 leads to much more enjoyable gaming than owning a PS3. I am basing that on its game library and the fact that my two friends, each with the PS360 combo, do not play their PS3 at all.
Does that make me a troll? The PS3 list of exclusives (excluding timed exclusives) doesn't impress me much. Uncharted is the only PS3 game I even want to play.
Don't get me wrong. I intend to buy a PS3 eventually, assuming it gets some must have games. I always get the Playstation eventually. But comparing its shooters with Halo, Galaxy with Clank, Mass Effect and Bioshock with games that the PS3 will get in a year...
The PS3 just looks weak. I deserve better gaming than that, imo.

I don't like FPS or play games online that much, so the PS3 allows me to play online the few times I want with Madden or the random game as well as strong single player games. Most of my friends have a PS3 but that's probably b/c we're in our 20's and having a HD player and video game system is more attractive than a dedicated gaming device. I'm far from a casual gamer, but I don't spend 4 hours a day playing games and the PS3 offers me enough titles that I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
If I were big on FPS and online communication features, teh 360 might be more attractive, but I can't play FPS for more than one hour and I absolutely hate hearing the bs people talk about on Live. I have no desire to hear a 13 year old kid try to trash talk or curse other players out. The whole online experience was kinda ruined for me, when I realized the people on the other end were people I wouldn't want to normally talk to (maybe that's why the first thing I do in games with random players is mute the mics).

Seconded.
While the PS3 lineup is looking much better, most of the releases are multiplatform and will most likely look/run better on the 360 if the past is any indication.
What exclusives Sony does have are pretty lackluster so far, though Uncharted may pull through.
I mean go look at metacritic. The 360 has 10 games that have a 90+ rating, the PS3 has 2- both of which are also on the 360. Not that ratings say everything, but they definitely say SOMETHING.

But jake that said what if i wasnt too impressed with Halo 3 and had more Fun with HL2? Dont get me wrong Halo is tremendously popular i even bought intot he hype, but overall i had a more pleasureable gaming time with HL2/Bioshock and even Resistance than I did overall with Halo 3.
Galaxies on the other hand, well its hard for ANY platformer to stack up to galaxies but at the same token, R&C is a great game as well, i couldnt just swear off a good game like that because galaxies is out too. Thats like never playing another FPS because Halo is out, its not the end all be all ya know? and as much as i love that little fat plumber... i like the lombax as well.
I mean if it came DOWN to it... you could go without ANY of the big 3 depending on your gaming likes and preferences, I'm personally happy i could snatch all 3 next gen consoles and currently, I'll admit, i have more games for my PS3 than my other 2 systems. But thats not a function in and of the system itself, but more along hte lines of the games i'm into at the moment. But come next week that of course will change.

wow, this is great! now the defense for owning a ps3 is "well i don't play games that much, so not having very many games doesn't bother me!" and "i don't like online that much, so not having a feature-rich online platform doesn't bother me!"? that is fucking comedy. great job, guys. great job.

I think the argument is not "that the PS3 has no games" but that it offers me the few titles that I want to play especially since I don't care to play FPS. Not everyone is in the same demographic, so they have different interests in their titles. I personally wouldn't spend $60 for COD4 because the game focuses mostly on multiplayer; that doesn't make it any less of a great game (on both systems).
Also, I'd rather pay for features that I'll use. I don't want to fork out $50/year to play one title online every so often or buy a system that tries to push online gaming for all its titles. Having the multimedia features for the PS3 and free online gaming fit my needs better.
People need to understand that I'm not here to convince you to purchase a particular system, but to have people understand that each one caters to the needs of different people and may not provide you with the exclusives you want but does for some.
Spartacus
I don't need reviews to tell me how to spend my money; I come to conclusions on my own about things. Also, the latest generation of ports seems to work well on both systems (see COD4 and AC).

tactics i dont see anyone saying that, i do however see someone saying tht since they DONT play online much, having not to go over and above and PAY for it, is likeable and most of PSNs network is just as capable of doing most things that XBL is... only difference is XBL has had 6 years to get where its at and PSN has been around what? 1?
And neither of the 3 systems have a LACK of games, all of em have their gems. 360 currently has more higher rated ones yes, but then again one of my favorite games every year is a wrestling game so what do i know?

Actually, tactics, I have a big stack of games and love playing online. Like Warhawk; amazing game, free online, and actively involved developers and PS3 exclusive.
Sure lots of PS3 games are multiplatform, but that means lots of 360 games are too. I didn't see the difference myself, but I've heard COD4 looks a little better on PS3. Honestly though, both look great and run at 60fps in 1080p, so ... awesome. I don't think the past is much of an indication of how multiplatform titles will go, since developers keep getting better with the PS3's hardware. With big titles like Assassin's Creed and DMC4 looking the same on both, it just doesn't hold up. Dirt looks better, I guess, but I don't really play racing games so I only have the accounts of others to go on.
I have a decent PC so I can play Gears and Bioshock without any problems if I want to, which really knocks down my desire for a 360.
DBX00 might have plenty of games for his limited gaming time, and so do I, though my gaming time is probably much less limited, from the way DBX00 made it sound. I guess my "defense" for owning a PS3 is having a system with games I can't get on PC, that works every time I turn it on, has free and lag-free online and has my favorite game series on it.
What's your defense for owning an unreliable console with a lot of PC games on it?

shagi: of course you do-- wii is a family-centric casual console. the fact that someone doesn't play a lot of games and doesn't need a robust online platform are two reasons why they'd even buy a wii in the first place. well, that and it's much cheaper, and much easier to figure out. i play call of duty (online), orange box (online tf2), bioshock, and oblivion on my PC with superior controls and comparable graphics performance.

Technically, it's not a lie. Because neither Mark Rein nor Midway have "officially" dropped it out of the holiday season.

Why does every post turn into a console war argument. I swear this should be consolewars.com
All three systems have fun exclusive games, and yes, if you do not own one of the systems you are missing out on some fun games. Get over it or go buy the other system but bashing it in public is a very pathetic and obvious display of sour grapes.

I am just waiting for the official push back date for UT3 before I go buy COD4. IF UT3 comes out this year, I will hold off on COD4 (and Haze) for the summer when the drought happens. That's if the prices of Heavenly Sword, Lair, Tom Clancy and a few other "okay" games don't drop first.

Gee it IS Sony after all. Would anyone be surprised if they were just outright lying about Unreal III in order to sell console this Xmas?

Where the hell is my Wipeout???
BOTH Wipeout HD (PS3) and Wipeout Pulse (PSP) were supposed to be out this holiday season. Why are they not on this list?
