Yeah right, its more like the Japaneses are losing interest in the wii and even Nintendo's biggest franchise can barley bump up console sales.

Come on who didn't expect the wii to be hitting 100k+ with the release of Mario, I thought the wii would be hitting between 100k and 150k. 37k is disappointing.

Loki, this is WEEKLY SALES.

Getting out 100k consoles a week is much harder than 100k handhelds.

I don't get this whole "THE JAPANESE ARE LOSING INTEREST" FUD that's going around. Have you all forgotten than the thing has been out for almost a year now, and has sold over 3.67 million units in Japan so far? You think that sales are slowing down because... Oh, I don't know... The initial hype has died down? That happens for every system. Nothing is going to be a 100k-weekly seller every week. Even the DS Lite has died down to about 70k per week. Does that mean DS is going to suddenly die, and PSP will overtake? Not a chance.

Some of you people are so blind you don't look at the picture as a whole. You're only looking at ONE WEEK.

There isn't a lie in what you just said.

I'm still amazed (but not really) at how Sony have fallen. But now you can look at as- half of the consoles (or more if you count the Japan PSX) have failed, or just come last, in their respective markets.
Whereas Nintendo seems to have the most hits/lose ratio and MS just seems to float along in the middle each time.

Yup!

Go PSP! Hang in there! Its been hovering at around 60 thousand for about a month now.

As for the 360, I guess its shows XBOX HQ in Japan that there is hope when its the right game. The problem is, you never know what the right game will be. Lord knows microsoft tried with JRPGs and other token efforts to court the japanese.

I expect some residual boost for next week, with a drop to around the 5 or 6 thousand mark the week after that. Which is good, considering months ago we were excited when the system reached 2000. This is also befor the 40gb PS3, so we dont know how exactly will that factor in since its ad campaign has be just as agressive as it was when the PSP Slim was launching. Given the success that had, It will be interesting to see what happens.

Final fantasy Crisis core is upping the psp, and Ace Combat 6 (It is six, righ?) is upping 360 numbers.

This makes perfect sense, Japanese people buy games that cater to their tastes, regardless of how they do in America.

PSP sales changed by 78? That's some consistency, there. Not like I have to fear for the ongoing success of my DS/PSP.

wait a second, there must be some clerical error here, I was told numerous times that japanese gamers were completly xenophobic and would never buy a non japanese gaming product D:

Were you told that by "completely xenophobic" Americans??

P.S. Compared to Chinese who still as a whole nation hold a grudge against Japan, Japan itself isn't bothered by what have happened in past. (But it doesn't mean they have forgotten either.)

P.P.S. I think this is destiny of all expensive imported ware to be slow on uptake. It's not easy to find tech support, support for some local living standards might be missing, accessories are sparse and expensive, games are even sparser, etc.

If anything, the Japanese technically hate themselves. Look at the vast bulk of their media. Do you notice something? Nearly everyone looks like they just stepped off a plane from America or Europe. Even games set in Japanese history look like the nation was invaded by the US, the entire population wiped out, then the invading Americans decided to wear Japanese clothing and fight each other.

Yes because the whole generation of people that can operate a game system, are extremist Japanese conservatives who remember being kids during WW2. Make retarded hate claims moar. All the people who have animosity towards us over WW2 are too old and outdated in their lifestyle/politics/culture/etc to even play video games out there.

I'm trying to put this politely: The shallowness of your understanding of the Japanese psyche is astounding.

I do not worship their culture. I've been there a few times and as much as I admire it in certain regards, they have deep flaws that are at least as obvious as those in any other culture--including American. But one thing you will not find much of at all is a hostility toward Americans. We're probably their favorite foreigners.

This is directed at Ihar `Philips` Filipau.

The Chinese are not racist. They don't hate on Japan just because they are holding a grudge. The Japanese as a nation does not, to this day, admit any wrongdoing in their invasion of China. All the damned torturing of captives, civilian or otherwise, the rape, and general massacre. They do not admit any wrong fucking doing.

As a Chinese who finds much to admire in modern day Japan, I find that highly highly highly fucking annoying. This is like modern day Germany saying that it did nothing wrong when Hitler was in charge. Although I can guarantee that plenty of Jews will have a word to say about that.

This isn't like Pearl Harbor where an island base was attacked. The Japanese occupied parts of China and then proceeded to behave like animals. What if not only did Japan sack Pearl Harbor but occupied parts of Hawaii and proceeded to rape and pillage it, torturing American citizens, raping American women. What if after that they were to say they admit no wrongdoing? Americans would be fucking pretty pissed I would imagine. And I'm not hating on America or any other nation, just that the person Ihar `Philips` Filipau may not have all the facts when commenting about China in such a harsh manner. I don't even know if this Ihar `Philips` Filipau is American. I'm just putting it in context that most reading this blog can understand.

Well, technically, us Americans wouldn't be too pissed because if they did that, we probably wouldn't have stopped with just two bombs. And if anything was left, we probably wouldn't have funded a reconstruction. So, there wouldn't have been anything to be pissed at.

Thanks you T.H. for posting and replying to Ihar `Philips` Filipau like that. I'm a Afican American with only a little oriental in me. But Even I know of the facts you are speaking of. I can't believe someeone would say some dumb stupid over the top ignorant stuff like him. In general Japan did that with each nation they occupied. So how could someone not know that while commenting on it? Answer they comment about something they dont know blank about. I hate that. That annoyed me greatly also.

It's the 360

Basically, some people who can't comprehend cultural differences will continue to bitch about Japan until the Japanese "get it right" and start buying a lot more 360s

I agree, these arguments should be saved for worldhistorystiq.com, because they are valid points, but blaming the Japanese people for their government's inability to admit to something is like saying that all Americans are clamoring for War with Iran

T.H. You forgot the best part. We did a redo of the bombing on Japan 15ish years ago, they got so pissed off and the government said "we're sorry". The soldier who flew the plane to drop the bomb was asked if he was ever sorry for killing 80,000 people. He answered nope, and he has slept fine every night because he had his orders and he followed them.
