Japanese Wii Fit trailers show snowboarding, jogging, more
46
GameTrailers has uncovered a whole buttload of Japanese videos for Wii Fit that show off some previously unknown game modes. A snowboarding game, shown above, has the player turn the board perpendicular to the screen and lean left and right to navigate a simple slalom course. For those less inclined to "X-TREME" sports, the jogging mini-game simulates the, er, thrilling world of jogging, complete with fellow joggers to keep pace with. Interestingly, the beginning of the jogging video shows a Wii remote being placed in a pocket, possibly to detect vertical movement (and setting up a surprising answer to the old query, "Is that a Wii remote in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?")
An extended Japanese trailer for the game shows more scenes from the above game modes, as well as some short snippets of a previously unknown tightrope-walking game and some sort of boxing trainer. Check it out after the break..

Few things on the internet make me actually laugh out loud. This was one of them.

This will not do well, at least in the U.S. This is Virtual Boy 2.0 for Nintendo. What crap.

Its awesome for a non-game. I am a hardcore gamer and I may pick it up because it seems so revolutionary. I will be playing Too Human and Wii Fit at around the same time. Then Brawl will take my life overrrrr!

This looks like it has a lot of potential!
The Wii is staring to look like the NES did; there were a lot more game specific contollers released that were really fun to use.
I had a friend with drawers full of different NES controllers and it was always a fun to visit.
Anyone remember the power pad - good times lol!

But flooding the market with too many peripherals is a bad thing.

Anyone else notice the radio receiver thing sitting on the ground to the right of the TV in the top pic? I hope that's not something else I have to plug into my Wii like the sensor bar.

As much as I don't want it to, it's looking like Wii Fit will not only sell, but sell WELL.
Dang it Nintendo, I want to like you, but make some GAMES, not interactive tech demos produced to sell more periphrials!

Nintendo isn't making games? Where the fuck have you been? Whatever you do, don't walk into a GameStop and ask what the long lines are for.

I guess your rabid Wii fanboyism clouded your understanding of the use of hyperbole, but don't worry, I expected no less from you.

That's actually pretty neat, although the video hurts my eyes. Too much white!
To those complaining about it being lame, or being a useless peripheral: are you being forced to buy one? Is the fact that some people will enjoy it hurting you? No? Didn't think so.

Great drinking game, same as Wii Sports. I can't wait to get this and have some of my girlfriend's friends over and shake it like there's no tomorrow.
Thank you, Nintendo. Thank you.

I wonder if this will have problems on carpet like regular scales do, since the carpet will absorb some of the force under the bottom of the balance board...

This actually looks like it would be fun. My friends and I are all into martial arts, and we always have an argument as to who has the better coordination/balance. This could be used to tell the difference.
Aside from that, my gf would come over every night just to play this. Then after that..... you know what I mean.

Yeah, i too was skeptical about this, thinking it more of an interactive Excercise video than a game, until i saw these videos
This now looks like an actual game
And all who compare it to Virtual Boy, that's like comparing PS3 to 3DO, neither of what we have now can compare to how craptacular the originals were

Yeah they discussed it somewhere, but I forget where. You'll use the disc channel to actually load the game, but it'll install its own Wii Fit channel so you can manage your data and submit it and whatever else without the disc in. This way you can hop right back into Galaxy without getting off your lazy-but-now-fit ass to swap discs.

Erm, one thing I noticed is the way they select some sort of proprietary Wii Fit channel from the Wii Menu that isn't the Disc Channel...does it install a new channel onto the Wii or something?

Snowboarding,Yoga? Don't take me wrong but the Wiifit thing and the weight controller are bound to be as necessary for the Wii as the Eye toy was for the PS2.

Wave of the future for gaming. Instead of relying on thumbs for interaction gameplay, we now have hand-arm motion, and eventually whole body motion. But this is best achieve using motion sensing camera. That way your not buying a whole bunch of closet clutter that the Wii is going to bring.
