Who cares if the concept has been around in some form? Portal is a breakthrough because it is done well and brought to the masses. So now is when the majority of the gaming world can celebrate the genius that may have existed in smaller gaming cliques but never widely acknowledged.

I loved Portal, but it was waaaay too short to be GOTY. There was only an hour of challenging gameplay sandwiched between an hour of tutorials and an hour of fluff.

It did not have a good story either. The computer thingy said hilarious stuff and there was an awesome song at the end. But there really wasn't much of a story.

I will grant you that Portal did it well, that statement wasn't meant to insult the cake nor the companion cube; however, it does not feel like Portal merits game of the year and I just wanted to point out that it was NOT the first game to toy with portals and physics.

Thankfully in the next Zelda game, Zelda is going to shoot Gannon with an assault rifle after Gannon rips her top off.

Let Spike TRY and deny them the GOTY nomination after that!

Unfortunately it plays like shit, has a lousy framerate, and contains far too many blatant panty shots to deserve to be taken any more seriously than Dead or Alive Volleyball.

"Most Addictive Game Fueled by Dew"

Wait.. you can't be serious? Joystiq has to be pulling out leg. If that's really a category it just completely de-legitimizes the entire competetion, it's beyond absurd. Not that the awards had much credit to begin with, but, ack! Give me a break!

Doesn't matter. It's still Spike TV. If you're not a 12-28 yo male who loves shooters then you have nothing to look for here.

The Lion War? Are they serious? Did they even play the original? The lag in that game makes it damn near unplayable.

I really liked Square before Enix joined the family. They sure make good games, but they can't port for shit. FFT and numerous other ports to the GBA / DS are proof.

square never did good ports to begin with (ff anthologies? also pretty laggy)

the only good ports are complete remakes, like the gba ff1+2

Do they open voting up to the public? If so Orange Box and its derivatives in each category gets my votes unquestionably. VALVe is the shit!

Oh, and I realize that opinions are subjective but why the hell is Wii Sports on there as a nominee for most addictive? Of all the games on this disc only tennis is fun in my opinion, and it's so damn one dimensional that I get more enjoyment out of Bejeweled on my phone.

I hate how most of those winners are going to be Halo 3.

As a PS3 owner, I'm little embarrassed by our list. But I guess I'll wait for my "Wait Until 2008!" speech for after the show.

Also, I'm just curious, how many people actually watch this? Spike TV's Game Awards are an abomination of the industry. Much like some gamers would like to see gamer websites stop posting articles about Jack Thompson so we can stop seeing him, I wish we could just not talk about Spike TV's undermining.

Grand Turismo 4
Duke Nukem Forever
(Enter any other PS3 title here)

This list could go on. But I dont keep track of the delaystation 3 games.

I think they can scrap the Game of the Year, Best Shooter, Best Military Game, and Best Multiplayer Game, and just tuck all 4 of those categories under "Best 360 Game." Every single list here is a crock of shit.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are up for best soundtrack again... lame. I don't consider those soundtracks when they are set lists of a rhythm game. Besides, best soundtrack goes to Portal for "Still Alive" hands down, best song from a game ever. It is nice to finally see somebody differentiate soundtrack and score, but yeah they still fucked it up. Ouendan 2 should be up for best rhythm game. Twilight Princess and Wii Sports are from last year. Maybe it's just me, but I think Mario Strikers: Charged is one of the best sports games in years. It plays like NBA Jam on crack.

I don't see why Super Mario Galaxy isn't up for Game of the Year, as it's the highest rated game since 2002, meaning every single reviewer absolutely loves it.

Oh, it's Spike TV! I forgot they don't know jack shit about games or even TV for that matter. I also highly doubt they even know anything about spikes.

You know at one point Lair had a 90+ metacritic score as well.

Oh well, Fernando, Crono, Rubang, you all only use narrow logic to argue your points when it fits your needs.

Thank you Shagi. I actually hadn't shit my pants yet today. I almost went a whole day until I read your comment here.

Galaxy's lowest rating is a 90 from Games(tm). They gave Lair a 30 (its lowest score as well, Games(tm) be haters all around). GameSpot, who is notorious for hating Nintendo and rating all their games 7% under their average scores, gave Galaxy a 95. They gave Lair a 45. What the hell are you talking about? GameSpy gave Galaxy a 100 and Lair a 30. That's Galaxy's highest score and Lair's lowest score. Galaxy's average review score has actually been going UP the last couple days. Everybody loves Galaxy and everybody hates Lair.

And Galaxy doesn't have 13 reviews. It has 14. It just got another 100.

And you're lying when you say Lair had a 90+ average. Its highest score IS 90, and it only has one of them. You're full of shit liarhead.

It pains me to see people complaining that the xbox 360 is getting recognition because it includes guns and boobs. Aren't you guys always chirping about how much you want your hobby to perceived as a mature medium, like the movie industry? Granted I don't think guns and boobs=maturity, but if games like Mario, Ratchet and Clank, Wii sports and other games geared towards a family friendly demographic become the primary accepted genre of gaming when are we going to be allowed to grow up?

I like Mario too, but he has dominated long enough.

A lot of people are saying that this is flawed. I dont think so. This just proves that from a gamer aspect that xbox360 games are just that much better. Look at the sales Wii and PS3 barely ever crack the top 10 in game sales. Yes the Wii outsells all in consoles but if your talking about actual gameplay then the 360 rules them all.

Replace "from a gamer aspect" with "what Spike TV thinks its stupid intended audience wants out of games."

Praising a system due to the amount of praise its games get from Spike TV is just as bad as praising a game just because Adam Dickwad Sessler liked it.

Here is the funny part.

People who play Wii and DS are casual, but at least they know it. They know they like mini-games and puppy dogs and we know it. No problem.

This list, shows you the real casual gamers. The ones who are total nerds, losers and go after easy games. However, because it has blood, tits and shooting, they think it makes them cool and hip. People like Shag. People that makes me embarrassed to this day to call myself a gamer.

Most people blame casual and immature gaming on the Wii but look at this sad list, I think we know were the real posers and casuals actually are...

Remember in one of its first showings, when Halo 1 won best PC game of the year? Even though it was 2 years old on xbox?

That show is a popularity contest, not an actual award show. The best game are the ones that are mentioned the most, and have the most sales, and not the ones that are actually better. For example family guy, that was a pretty bad game overall, but it won awards because everyone loves family guy. It won best cast I know, but my point is, that game shouldn't have been anyway near there.

This List is good cause i prefer xbox to any other system cause the wii has a cool controller technology, but not a good selection of games except for mario and zelda, the ps3 has ok games, but too many buttons and very crappy online. i think the xbox is just right and if any of you say different, you can write it on a piece of paper and put it where the sun dont shine
