Wow, you're getting your stats from the Heritage Foundation? That's like getting news from Fox News.

"They tell you that the military is voluntary, but that concept for blacks and poor whites is like a rat being dropped in a maze," said Ronald Walters, a University of Maryland political science professor. "The playing field outside the military is not level. Life structures you into certain choices, and you wind up in the military."

Walters and other observers note that 38 percent of the military's 1.1 million enlistees are ethnic minorities, while they make up only 29 percent of the general population. In the largest branch, the Army, the percentage of minorities approaches half of all enlistees, at 45 percent.

African Americans alone account for nearly 30 percent of Army enlistees, according to Defense Department statistics compiled in 2000. Latinos represent 9 percent of the Army and 12 percent of the population. Black women comprise nearly half the Army's enlisted women.

Black soldiers also reenlist in far greater numbers than white troops, according to a 1997 Department of Defense survey. "

Eialba,

Did you even bother reading the first half of the link that you posted? You know, the part where the DOD compared its figures to Census data (similar to Heritage thoug for different years).

You seem to have skiped to observations made by a poly sci professor and unnamed observers. Their observations later in the article are not mutualy exclusive with the data driven facts produced by both Heritage and the DOD.

Oh, and McElroy's "joke" is excruciatingly bad. A good Bush joke I've heard recently is this one from Weekend Update:

"Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with the environment. Then, in a stunning reversal, the Supreme Court awarded it to George Bush." --Amy Poehler

I served in the U.S. Army and was even in basic training in Oklahoma when the Oklahoma bombing happened. My Drill Sergeant once asked us if we were in President Clinton's army and to those that replied "Yes" he told them they were a bunch of pussies. All these jabs at Bush are just the "Blue Dress" Democrats who long for more Clinton in the Whitehouse to wrap their lips around.

I wonder if your drill sergeant still have the same opinion if you'd ask him today. That is if he's not already dead serving in Iraq. It is one thing to serve your country in time of need. I would not be proud to be in today's military knowing I'll be partaking in an illegal war. FYI, I'm a veteran myself. Thanks to Bush, I have become an extreme lefty.

ugh, the bush jokes...so bad.

But then again a bush joke doesn't really have to be funny as long as it has some different variation of why you hate bush.

You know, I always figured that xbox users were bush supporters and the majority of posts on here support that theory. That doesn't say much about the xbox brand I think.

I think that most people should start to realize that you don't have to be left or right. You can be a mix of the two and you can support fiscally conservative views, support gay rights but oppose abortion. I don't think the US has been this divided since the civil war.

Any leader that tells it citizens "you are either with us, or against us" and then goes on to say that he supports free speech should not be allowed to govern a country as powerful and amazing as the US. Most of the people on here may be too young to have traveled much but you would be amazed at how the world now perceives your country.

I think that the US needs to hang on until 2008 and hope they get either a good republican or democrat leader to lead them out of the mess that Bush has gotten them into. The recession is coming guys and you have no one to blame but yourselves for supporting the invasion of Iraq and the wasted trillion that has been spent there.

And for those who think that a gaming site should not be allowed to make a rare political joke, go back to watching Fox News (aka 1942 Germany propaganda).

PS. Bush would probably do well at gaming - he has lots of free time to play games since he obviously isn't doing much else.

The "with us or against us" statement was referring to other nations that were supporting terrorism, not citizens. And if you do support the terrorist and live in this country, I have a name for you....traitor. Its one thing to have a disagreement with policy, but another to want to undermine the government. And why do you try to hide your ideology when you say we need to elect a good republican or democrat? Your fox news dig gives you away. At least they didn't knowingly air forged documents about Bush like Rather did. And since when do we as Americans have to answer to world opinion? Are they allowed to vote in our elections? You can drink the kool aid all you want about this war, i just wonder what your thoughts were about der slikmiester going to Bosnia when there was no real threat to us? This war had to be fought somewhere, thank God its over there.

@Steve
Believe it or not, the vast majority of military men and women support Bush. Most of Bush's detractors either 1)just don't get what it is that we're up against in regards to terrorism or 2)would use anything against Bush so long as it solidifies their political opposition to him, even if that means applauding someone like the president of Iran or supporting insane 9/11 conspiracy theories.

The article about Bush playing a game w/ injured troops is a good example of how low you guys go to get in your little political digs. Btw it's not an illegal war, it's a resumption of hostilities per the cease fire declared during Desert Storm, for which Saddam violated U.N. sanctions continually and virtually EVERYONE (minus those making money off of a sanctioned Iraq) agreed to go in and get him. Bill Clinton even believed Saddam had a WMD program LONG before Bush got into office.

Yes, but these are not the primary reasons that he gave for us going to war, the Saddam + Osama argument was the one that got the most sway (and is still believed by a shocking 41% of the population)

If our military was really committed to fighting terrorism, the 160,000 would be out securing the Afghan-Pakistani frontier, and the minority would be in Iraq, the only reason i feel we should stay there is that we should take responsibility for the instability we have created. "You make the mess, you clean it up" and all that

Isn't the game America's Army still developed and paid for with taxpayer dollars? Anyhow, do they play that game at the VA rehab center?

"This begs the question - when you play some games with the president, do you have to let him win?"

answer: If I was in the ailing soldiers shoes; HELLS NO!!. I'd hand him his ass for aiding to ruining of the rest of my life. I'd quickly suggest playing a one on one round of Counter Strike with knives only and with controller pads. Mwahaha.

Bush:Go over there, and capture the flag!
Soldier: Mr President, this is king of the hill! We can't waste our ammo on...
Bush: Do it!

Seriously, lets tally up:

Bush administrationn fails to stop 9-11, despite being nearly warned.

Bush administration invades Afghanistan, in attampt to "get back at them"(Invading the whole country to catch Bin Laden is stupid! Ever heard of COVERT ACTION? What would you do if Bin Laden comes to America? Invade yourselfe)

Bush administration decides NOT to wait on U.N. desition on invasion of Iraq. The aparent early victory turns into a guerrilla warfare.

Even if you believe Bush isn't entirely thinking of oil in Iraq, think on this: The last time they asked a General who would substitute soldiers now posted, he shrugged. Now, If a real war broke out right now, after so much personnel and resources were wasted on Iraq and Afghanistan. Would your country be f***ed up?

Would THEN be a good time to make fun of Bush?
