Rumor: BioShock on PS3, new Metal Gear on PSP

Got a crazy craving for that sweet ADAM flavor that all the kids are talking about, but only own a PS3? According to 1UP's Quartermann's Nostradamian prediction you might be able to get your BioShock fix soon. In the latest rotation of EGM's rumor mill, the exclusivity of the underseas fiasco has been brought into question, and PS3 owners could find themselves frolicking through Rapture sometime in 2008. However, this report contradicts the statement of BioShock's lead designer Ken Levine that the game is not PS3 bound. 2K Games, would you kindly confirm or deny this rumor?

Quartermann also has great news for the feverish fans of FOXHOUND who were upset by the recent MGS4 delay - a new Metal Gear game for the PSP is on it's way, ready to heal those wounds. Reportedly, Kojima Productions is working on the title right now, which will "take Snake back to the early days of his career." Not his career as a master of espionage, mind you, but his first career as a pastry chef in a small Rhode Island bistro.

Also rumored: Sega isn't letting the lukewarm reception of their two first next-gen Sonic games break their stride, as they're apparently hard at work on a new, "real" Sonic game. We don't know whether "real" means a return to the game's classic platforming roots, or if we can expect more creepy interspecies make-out sessions.

Do you know what's most interesting in that article, the weird rumor about an update to WWF No Mercy for WiiWare. No Mercy is considered the last truly great American wrestling game, and an update has thrown the wrestling gamer community into a tizzy.

PS-I've never been able to type "tizzy" before. I feel like a worse person for it.

meh I can see both happening at one point. I don't think Kojima said anything about being finished with the Metal Gear franchise as a whole, just that the MGS series would be done.

I doubt either are true. Most PS3 owners, like myself, who were interested in the game already finished it on the PC, what's the point in spending $40-60 more for a console copy?

Joystiq Gamers like games on their consoles, but hate them when they're on the others. They also hate games that are not on their console, but would for some reason love them if they were. It's not about the games - it's about fanboyism and being a tard here at Joystiq.

I don't understand why 360 fanboys would get mad if it came to ps3. Isn't the important thing is that you have a copy to play in your console as much as you like? Shouldn't other people witness the greatness of BIOSHOCK?

Personally I wouldn't mind see exclusives stay with a console for a year then they would be free to send their games to the other systems. Kinda like hey you had it long enough to be exclusive we want more money so let the others play what you already have.

Look I love my 360 and all, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bioshock made it to the ps3. Also I still believe that some form of Metal Gear (either a port of MGS4 or a spin-off)will make it to the 360.

Saying Konami won't bring MGS to the 360 is like saying Konami doesn't like making money.

thing is, Konami has already denied the MGS for 360 rumors, in many interview AND conventions/shows, as for 2K, only the lead designer is the one that denied the rumors, there have been none official statements mentioning that...

I would say that you're right, except for the fact that so many other publishers have said the same thing and guess what happened? They appeared on other consoles.

Think of it this way. What do you think would have happened if Konami announced it for the 360 at e3 or even before? It could affect ps3 sales (both software and hardware)negatively since people wouldn't have to spend money to buy a ps3 to get MGS4. It's all business my friend, so I wouldn't be surprised if 5 months to a year after MGS4, Konami gives us xbots something from Metal Gear.

Keep in mind we live in a different time where Sony isn't dominating every thing in its path and unless the game is being published by Sony themselves, it would be incredibly dumb to keep your game on only one platform. The same goes to Microsoft as well.

If I had to guess, I'd say a year or maybe a year and a half, given the now more substantial development times for games. It took about a year between MGS3 and MGS3:Subsistence. That way, MGS4 is technically an exclusive like Konami and Kojima are saying, but MGS4:Sub-we'rereleasingthegameagain could be multi-platform without someone being called a liar.

So many designers/publishers deny these kinds of rumours only for the consumer to find it true a few months later.

Hideo Kojima would especially fit this catagory because he denied the "MGS coming to Xbox" rumour in the original Xbox days as well...but wait a minute, the original Xbox ended up getting MGS Substance (not subsistence, the other one with the extra 200 VR missions) which has now become one of the most recent sought after games for many PS2 owners. So you can't sit here and convince me that a company that in my opinion put one of their best episodes in the series on the original Xbox (with its comparitively horrible sales) will not be putting an iteration of MGS on the 360 cash cow with its massive userbase/attach rate.

Now, as far as Bioshock's PS3 port goes, whether it is true or not, I can see why people like Ken Levine would deny it (despite having found codes referencing PS3 in the game).

You have to understand that these guys have stock chairmans and shareholders to answer to as well. By saying that it would be coming to the PS3 may have dampened the sales of the game on the 360 when they did not have the intention of releasing it a week after.

Besides, when you factor in the fact that this game is a major seller, and the cost of pressing a disc for a PS3, its a no brainer that they might as well put it on the PS3. Because as far as they are concerned, even in a worse case scenario, they will probably break even on their spendings. Moreover, who knows how much of their costs Sony will subsidize out of desperation of getting a critically acclaimed (by others, excluding Sony) title put on their console.

Regardless, I am so freaking angry right now, at a time when all of these great games are coming out, my launch 360 had to sing its swan song and get RRoD'd two days ago... =( luckily, they have already shipped me the box and I can send it out today! :D The worse part of it all is the fact that it got RRoD'd at the very end of PORTAL so I barely saw the ending *tears*. Oh well, now I can catch up on some PS3 games.

meh they can have bioshock, it is grossly overrated and by the time it comes out for ps3, 360 owners will have had it for at least 6 months anyway.

What difference does it makes if it's been out for 6 months on the 360? I just played Shadow of the Colossus for the first time on my PS3 and it's a new game or me, even though it came out ages ago, because I'd never played it.

I don't know maybe the world isn't ready for a MGS in the Ds but it would be awesome, can you imagine all the stuff Kojima productions could pull using the Ds hardware?

hey a bioshock thread

I've got a request for PC players, for a screenshot near the end of the game (slight SPOILER):

In the last level, in the little sister nursery area, there were a few crayon drawings of big daddies. Can anyone take a screenshot of those for me? Either way the whole point to most rumors is to just stir up debate/gauge interest/get hits on website....

I bought my 360 for specific games and I will buy a PS3 for specific games. Too much multi-platform games makes for less competition and quality in my opinion.

I'd be willing to bet that they're basing this Bioshock thing on that one strand of code found once upon a time, which was denied up and down to mean anything. Not to say that this couldn't be true, but it's unlikely since 2k is generally, in my experience, fairly open about porting things.

As for the Metal Gear on PSP, if it's real it'll probably be something with a screwy gimmick like MGS: Acid.

I've never trusted rumors from EGM, and I'm not about to start now. If I remember right, there was once a rumor they started about FF:XIII or XIV that was going to be the "Return of Aeris".

That argument doesn't work. Games don't go "bad". If it was fun 6 months ago, why wouldn't it still be fun? Because others have played it? Because it's not new or the next big thing?

But i swore Sega said they were putting Sonic on hiatus, to tear the franchise down and build it back from square 1, kind of like they did with Secret Rings, taking everyone but Sonic out (except for the minigame mode)

And i hope Kojima isn't doing this, he has to be working on "Project S" with Suda 51, the highly rumored Snatcher remake...

Actually if it wasn't because the source is EGM those rumors could be true but if the new MGS game for the PSP they mention is infinite mission lol @ them infinite mission was an alternative title for MGS portable ops plus.
