Check out Wii's "Check Mii Out" Channel
We checked out the rumors back in March and checked out the official announcement back at E3, but tonight we finally get a chance to check out the Check Mii Out channel for ourselves.
Upon the first load, the channel asks you to pick a Mii to serve as your "artisan," as sort of signature for any Miis you might choose to share. After that you can choose between two main sections. In the Posting Plaza, you can check out a random assortment of Miis from your region or around the world, and also the most popular Miis as picked by other users. Any Mii you like can be given the "I like it" seal of approval, or be copied and imported directly to your Mii channel. You can also post your created Miis in this section for evaluation.
In the Contests area, you can upload Miis based on certain assigned themes -- the first contest asks for your best "Mario without his cap." Once the contest is done in six days, you'll be able to pick out your favorite entries and view the results.
It's easier to understand if you see it rather than just reading about it, so check out a quick video after the break.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in.]

I just tried it out and picked up some awesome Miis!
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Nov 11th 2007 11:41PM
Same here! Love this channel!
Adv2k1 @ Nov 11th 2007 11:37PM
yeah this channel is a surprise in how cool it is. So many awesome miis, and I like community features. The Terminator mii's is fucken amazing to say the least. I was like HOW IN THE WORLD DID THEY MAKE THAT ?
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Nov 11th 2007 11:41PM
It's actually pretty cool. Not much to do on it right now, but the voting channel started out like that, and now I check it all the time for new polls.
Already made my "Mario without a hat" entry. Looking forward to seeing the entries!
...Jan... @ Nov 11th 2007 11:48PM
- I'll make this a once a weeker visit, like the EVC.
- Now if only it'd stream the current contest theme on the channel icon. That way, I wouldn't have to click on it, then go back to the Mii Channel to make it.
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Nov 11th 2007 11:49PM
That's a good idea, the sreaming contest bit.
Zeldanator @ Nov 12th 2007 5:00AM
They already are, that and Wii Messages when new contests go live.
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Nov 12th 2007 11:06AM
Yeah, I just got that this morning. Good job Nintendo, being on top of reading this board and figuring it out so quick.
NvM @ Nov 11th 2007 11:59PM
buttholes?
Jerk Face @ Nov 12th 2007 3:51AM
Well, I like them!
Obie @ Nov 12th 2007 12:00AM
Great show of creativity. This and Mario Galaxies, my Wii is purrin' again!
hvnlysoldr @ Nov 12th 2007 12:06AM
It totally makes sense for the first contest to be Mario, besides Galaxy coming out, since he's Nintendo's mascot. But I totally can't wait for American Idol contests.
samfish @ Nov 12th 2007 12:08AM
To paraphrase 2001...
My God- it's full of Michael Jacksons!
samfish @ Nov 12th 2007 12:08AM
Also: Jesus, Hitler and Dr. Zoidberg.
And there's a good number of Pac-Mans in there, too.
WiNG @ Nov 12th 2007 12:14AM
yeah it sounds lame but it's actually kinda fun. I uploaded my Gordon Freeman and Guybrush Threepwood Miis!
Cal @ Nov 12th 2007 12:33AM
Ugh! I'd download those, somehow (can't find specific Miis), but I don't have Wi-Fi. Well, that and my Wii is in a shipping container to another country.
WiNG @ Nov 12th 2007 11:26AM
also I added Napoleon and Professor X.
Rubang B (BRUSH WITH FAME) @ Nov 12th 2007 12:37AM
This channel's pretty rad. I just uploaded John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and David Lynch. Damn those Terminators are amazing.
Who's that animal thing? I saw him twice, once as K.B. and once as B.K.
WiNG @ Nov 12th 2007 11:21AM
It's Bowser
KidRichard @ Nov 12th 2007 12:46AM
So many Hitlers and J.C.s... I saw Salad Fingers too.
Deuz Augustine @ Nov 12th 2007 12:50AM
Awesome. Now please release a patch that will update the Mii Channel.
Blunt @ Nov 12th 2007 1:02AM
My Mario w/out a hat entry has been sent, and it's a little different...
Also, the only thing I hate about it is that, I can't seem to find the Miis that I upload...
Any heal in this area would be appreciated...
NvM @ Nov 12th 2007 1:09AM
I can see the contests being fun.
I hope they have alot of them.
Andrei @ Nov 12th 2007 1:14AM
The animal is Bowser, I believe. King Bowser?
Anyways, there was a distinct lack of V from V for vendetta. So I uploaded one. ^_^
Rubang B (BRUSH WITH FAME) @ Nov 12th 2007 4:42AM
Ooooh I can see it now. Maybe they mount Bowser Koopa? I would've just gone with K.K. for King Koopa or just a B. for Bowser.
Adv2k1 @ Nov 12th 2007 2:04AM
...Jan... said " .- Now if only it'd stream the current contest theme on the channel icon. That way, I wouldn't have to click on it, then go back to the Mii Channel to make it. "
well actually you can sign up for messages to be sent to your Wii Message board when new updates like this happen. So you don't even need to turn on your wii, you will see blue light and message will tell you to check out the channel
ares04 @ Nov 12th 2007 2:19AM
why not include the full names? i hate the initials. i wish there was a place to get the names so i would know who's who.
htt://www.ares04.com
WiNG @ Nov 12th 2007 11:23AM
so you can't name your miis "go fuck yourself" or "insert racial slur here"
Actually I like the initials. It's fun to look at them and think for a second. The moment you realize what they stand for is awesome.
Also the "call friends" button is GREAT! I guess it calls Miis with similar names and similar features. The Einstein ones are very good!
Tamyu @ Nov 12th 2007 2:29AM
Wow, the difference between the local (in my case Japan) and world (in my case, anywhere other than Japan) is frighteningly striking.
My local channel has a good variety with a lot of original designs, but the world one is full of Charlie Brown, Michael Jackson, Star Wars characters, and versions of some burly bearded man who I don`t recognize.
Cheezeman3000 @ Nov 12th 2007 4:07AM
OMG, who is that burly guy? I just can't figure it out either...
Arlen @ Nov 12th 2007 8:29AM
I think you're thinking of Jack Black.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_black
Tamyu @ Nov 12th 2007 9:14AM
Why do so many people make Miis of him?
DammitBran @ Nov 12th 2007 3:16AM
I just posted my Chuck Norris.
I still can't get over all the Hitlers I saw.
Cheezeman3000 @ Nov 12th 2007 4:33AM
I can't believe I just spent over an hour browsing through Miis. Whatever they did, it worked.
Nigeria @ Nov 12th 2007 5:37AM
So many Hitlers?
Rob Accomando @ Nov 12th 2007 6:38AM
I hate how you can only put initials for your Mii. I guess it cuts down on people putting in inappropriate games.
Blazur @ Nov 12th 2007 8:28AM
Uploaded Frodo Baggins, Terminator, Tony Soprano, Blade, and Ralphi from A Xmas Story. Also nabbed myself a cool looking Darth Vador.
Nintendo really needs to patch the Mii channel to include more features.
Briz9 @ Nov 12th 2007 9:47AM
This is such a snore-inducing feature for me. This is exactly why I sold my Wii. While Wii gets crap like this, the other 2 are getting Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Uncharted, CoD4, etc. etc.
I know I sound like an anti-Wii fanboy, but it's just how I feel.
Cap'n Jack @ Nov 12th 2007 10:03AM
So...you compare community services directly with game releases? Apples and oranges, dude.
Undead Priest @ Nov 12th 2007 10:56AM
It's a friggin' OPTIONAL console feature, not a game.
And because Super Mario Galaxy doesn't come out tomorrow or anything.
Rubang B (BRUSH WITH FAME) @ Nov 12th 2007 4:19PM
I can't believe that 360 is getting a stupid dashboard update instead of awesome games like Mario Galaxy! Snores: induced!
Cap\\\'n Jack @ Nov 12th 2007 10:03AM
Some things missing from this channel that could make it great:
- View my Miis' rankings, how many viewed their profiles, how many liked them, and how many saved them to their Wii.
- Subscribe to an artisan. Via some screen you could view new Miis from your favorite artisans.
- Categories (not just Skills) assigned to Miis. This would make searching for Miis easier. How many are already applicable to Movie, Videogames, TV, Music, and even ORIGINAL concepts?
- What's New menu. Find the most popular of the newest Miis.
Destin @ Nov 12th 2007 11:11AM
Cap\\\'n Jack, agreed on all counts. I uploaded 7 Miis, and I don't see how to even view them, much less see how people have rated them. And I want to be able to ssee Miis posted by people I know. Why aren't those very basic features present? And yes, you should be able to separate original concepts from celebrity caricatures.
This is a great idea, really, but the execution leaves much to be desired.
WiNG @ Nov 12th 2007 11:25AM
um, if you want to see Miis from people you know... they could.. just... email you the Mii.
You know, it's been a feature since launch.
Paul P. @ Nov 12th 2007 10:20AM
One thing of note you didn't mention in your article is that you get a number for any Mii you upload, and you can search by number. So you can post the number of your Mii anywhere so anyone can easily find it.
Eric @ Nov 12th 2007 1:14PM
I made my Mario look like Bob Hoskins, a la Super Mario Bros. The Movie.
Erimgaard @ Nov 12th 2007 10:02PM
Cap///'n Jack, Destin, you can subscribe to an artisan. Find a mii of theirs which is unique (few to no similar miis) and favorite it. Then search for friends. Any mii which can't fill it's friends search with similar versions will end the list (and in the case of a truly unique mii, no similar miis exist, so this effect forms the entire list) with all the miis posted by that artisan.
If you wish to provide this effect to friends, I suggest (and did myself) uploading the actual mii you use as your artisan. They are usually unique enough. You can then just share that one mii's code to share your collection.
Erimgaard. (Mii;1334-2196-9358)
