Take Two chairman clarifies statement on GTA IV release date

When Take-Two Interactive Chairman Strauss Zelnick spoke to a group of investors on Tuesday, his comments were vague enough to make us wonder if Grand Theft Auto IV would miss its target launch window of February to April, 2008.
However, Zelnick recently spoke with GameSpot to take a more concrete stand on the matter. He said that the company is sticking with the February to April target, and that a firm release date within that three month period will be set when Take-Two knows the game will be ready. While this doesn't set our mind completely at ease, it's nice to see them give us any sweet morsels of certainty in their ocean of ambiguous announcements.

I still say they're going to decide to delay it until the Holiday '08 season.
ColossalHat @ Nov 11th 2007 6:38PM
I wouldn't doubt it. Maybe they've decided we don't have enough money in our wallets this year?
TheGuy @ Nov 11th 2007 6:41PM
Agreed
I believe Rockstar knew for a while they wouldn't be able to reach the October 2007 release date, but waited as long as they could before telling us the news. Now Rockstar will take their time to polish the game, and will likely wait until October to release it, as it has traditionally released them in October.

Just waiting for the PS3 to sell more systems

If they put this out the same day SSB:Brawl launches, I'll shoot a puppy.
hvnlysoldr @ Nov 11th 2007 11:47PM
Would any old puppy do? Yes I know I used old to describe a baby dog. But would any random puppy suffice? The first one you see? One that looked at you with their puppy dog eyes? Or the mongrel who peed on your shoe?

people always complain about its release date being pushed back. I really dont care. If you have ever played any of the other gta games, you will know how many hidden little bugs there can be because of its size. AS far as I see it, seing as this game is supposed to be so big a realistic(real 1:1 scale this time, no 5 min drive from san Francisco to la)the longer the wait, the better quality the final product is, although due to all the online stuff in the current-gen consoles, they can easily put out patches, so they wont need too much time.
ColossalHat @ Nov 11th 2007 7:00PM
The reason people complain about things getting delayed is because the company made a promise, non-binding in any way, that the product would be out at that date.
IMO studios are setting their release dates unrealistically, thus requiring the date to be pushed back until they can work out the remaining kinks. I feel that if a studio can't give a reliable release date, they should give us the old stand-by of "It'll be ready when it's ready". Simple as that.

I don't know about you people, but i'm willing to wait for a good game. I'm a big fan of GTA series and hope this one will be just as good as all the other ones. If they need more time, let them have it.

I too, am a GTA nutcase. GTA III, Vice City, SA have been purchased for my PC.
This is the only release holding me back from buying a PS3 or a Xbox 360.
mcatrage @ Nov 11th 2007 7:42PM
