Official plush Weighted Companion Cube coming soon
Yes, yes, we know: "Too many posts about Portal", "We're sick of hearing about Portal", "All you ever talk about is Portal", but shut up for a second, because we have some more Portal news to share. It seems that Valve is answering our prayers and will soon be selling the oft-adored Weighted Companion Cube in huggable plush form.
In addition to the larger stuffed version of our best friend, Valve is also working on a pair of smaller ones for hanging on rear-view mirrors. We're confused as to how there could be two Companion Cubes, but we'll just assume it's an illusion created by portals.
No price, no release date, and no additional details accompany the announcement. But isn't the photo alone news enough?

Doesn't look very weighted though. :x (where's our paperweight?)
NATO_Duke @ Nov 12th 2007 11:08AM
Paperweight would be a nice idea.
Seems that a company would jump on the 'weighted' angle of the companion cube and make that before a plush. How does logic always seem to be lost first?
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Nov 12th 2007 2:24PM
that's probably the most ingenious way of giving the public their weighted companion cube.
oh well, it's still coming out! :D
Kizzle @ Nov 12th 2007 6:16AM
Pretty crappy.
Most of the fan-made ones I've seen are much better looking than this. Hell, even that cake posted on Kotaku was better than this. This looks like "Not Really Weighted Companion Fuzzy Bubble."
capt_carl @ Nov 12th 2007 7:05AM
Ewww plush? I wanted a legit toy, plastic would've been nice so it could be used for it's weighted features.
Rubang B (BRUSH WITH FAME) @ Nov 12th 2007 7:33AM
Screw all you haters. More plush WCC for Rubang!
FOXHOUND @ Nov 12th 2007 7:52AM
It'll be interesting to see the "incinerator" videos(if they're not out there already)featuring the uneasy loss of said companion cube.
Doug @ Nov 12th 2007 8:02AM
I've always felt the weighted companion cube could use its own companion you know....
StrangeBum @ Nov 12th 2007 8:06AM
Nobody is commenting about the rear-view mirror cubes. I'm digging those, I might have to pick both of these up. So whenever I feel the need for some companionship, there it is, my wonderful buddy that will not stab me in the back.
Donald @ Nov 12th 2007 8:22AM
I think you're getting it wrong. It will never THREATEN to stab you in the back.
Stabbing in the back is still within the realm of possibility.
StrangeBum @ Nov 12th 2007 8:24AM
Haha..yes I suppose so. Great Success!
And I have to say, my name is Donald, and when I got my email reply, it scared the shit out of me. I thought somehow I replied to my comment or something without knowing it.

Yay, there would be an Aperture science artificial intelligence incinerator included too?
timnc @ Nov 12th 2007 9:37AM
Hrm I see a stocking stuffer.
Bucket @ Nov 12th 2007 10:06AM
I don't know... they always give me bad advice.
UltimateQ @ Nov 12th 2007 10:11AM
Wait what? Who the fuck is complaining about to much portal? For once you are talking about a -good- game. Before all you talked about was the run-of-the-mill halo series.
I bet the die hard halo fans who buy master chief helmets are the ones that are getting mad because "wtfomgbbq a pc game was rated higher than halo... and it was part of a 3 package deal!"
If you are not a die hard halo fan who buys master chief helmets then the previous statement probably does not refer to you.
Mike @ Nov 12th 2007 10:22AM
This is pretty slick but I really want a paper weight. It would look perfect on my desk.
WiNG @ Nov 12th 2007 11:15AM
I would like a plastic, weighted cube. If it could weigh 100 pounds somehow, all the better.
Crazy Vincent @ Nov 12th 2007 6:17PM
Agreed, a plastic cube would be more appropriate. Not sure I'd want one that weighs 100 pounds though, as the shipping costs would be prohibitive.
Joe @ Nov 12th 2007 11:26AM
I'll grab the Weighted Companion Rearviews sometime soon. That's pretty awesome
shaoron @ Nov 12th 2007 11:37AM
all plush no weight...
euthanize it!
mnemo @ Nov 12th 2007 11:56AM
Meh. The fan-made plush cube looked MUCH better since it had CORNERS, this one is more like a Non-Weighted Companion Ball. :-/
LordMinogue @ Nov 12th 2007 1:13PM
Correction: The rear-view mirror companion cubes are known internally as "threesome cubes."
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 12th 2007 2:11PM
I don't like the official plush as much as the fan-made one:

The official one looks lumpy and unshapely.
GoldenS1104 @ Nov 12th 2007 3:16PM
for those of you considering getting the one you can hang from your rear view mirror, just a warning: im pretty sure it's illegal to have anything hanging from your mirrors including fuzzy dice and cuddly companion cubes.
michael duche @ Nov 25th 2007 7:47PM
damn cant wait for it to come out im on valvesoftware every day just waiting for it to show up so i can f-in buy it.
J @ Dec 4th 2007 3:24AM
Yea I'd also rather have a replica.
Life size. :D
J-P @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:58PM
An aluminum WCC would be cool, weighed, but not too heavy as to run up shipping costs.
jameskennedy @ Dec 26th 2007 3:33PM
