Peter Molyneux's Populous coming to Nintendo DS
Before he was integrating man's best friend into Fable 2, Peter Molyneux designed a little game called Populous, which was subsequently the inspiration for an entire genre of simulation games known as "god games." Though it was officially (and quietly) announced two months ago, the Populous DS buzz is finally beginning to build, with screens and details of the portable remake appearing in a recent issue of Famitsu Magazine.According to our buddies over at DS Fanboy, the remake will feature wireless multiplayer for up to four people, and options for both stylus-driven and classic control. The game's levels will be collected from the original's numerous sequels, expansions, and editions. Famitsu reports a February 2008 release for the game in Japan.

This was one of the hardest, longest, and most fun games I had on the SNES. I loved the Nintendo themes world and the crazy food world!

I am loving the current trend of old point and click pc games being ported to DS. So many classics I didn't/couldn't quite "get" at the time due to age now re-playable for complete enjoyment.

I may finally break down and get a DS for this. I played the hell out of this game on Sega Genesis.

Populous was the SHIT! I remember playing this for countless hours on the SNES with something like 300+ levels. I'd kill for a sequel, and a game like this would be excellent for the Wii.

Between this and Speedball II, it looks like Amiga games are making something of a comeback. Now someone please put Cadaver on the DS.

What? No PC players here? The game was far better on pc than SNES/Genesis--trust me, I tried all three-because of the mouse, and I expect the DS version to be outstanding because of that.

I didn't really quite get the original at the time. The manual wasn't great and the web didn't really exist.
All I used to do (on my Atari ST) was keep flattening land to get my population as high as possible, and then cast Armageddon. That seemed to do it.
I'd like to see the top screen have a wider view though. 8x8 really makes it hard to get an overview (no zoom I expect).
The bottom screen would just allow you to edit the center 8x8, but using the top screen you could see around a bit.
