Unreal Tournament 3 multiplayer powered by GameSpy
IGN and Epic sent word this morning that Unreal Tournament 3 will use GameSpy's online technology for multiplayer match ups. The announcement makes sense, given that GameSpy joined Epic's Integrated Partners Program in August, marrying the company's technology with Unreal Engine 3 and permitting cross-platform play across both the PC and PS3. According to a statement, both versions of UT3 will leverage off of GameSpy's tools for multiplayer matchmaking, in-game and out-of-game messaging, tracking players stats, VoIP messaging, and online ranking and leaderboards. However, while interoperability between the two versions of UT3 is expected, this still has not yet been confirmed. The game is currently earmarked on our calenders for release for the PC on November 19, while the PS3 version remains something of a mystery.

But according to PS3 fanboys, GameSpy is so last gen and useless.

You know what would be awesome? If you READ your own links. First 50 comments had mild complaining about gamespy but mostly it was users showing off their collections.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 12th 2007 2:57PM
seriously stop it Fernando. You're going to get banned again if you keep this up.
Bender @ Nov 12th 2007 11:14AM
This explains why I have so many connection issues and server browser issues with the UT3 beta.
GameSpy may be a good product eventually but every time I see it implemented it starts off buggy and drives me insane!
initialsBB @ Nov 12th 2007 11:21AM
And so what does this mean for teh mac version ? Hasn't Gamespy ceased all mac development ?
heyguy @ Nov 12th 2007 12:04PM
mac version?
you must be kidding.
Ted @ Nov 12th 2007 11:23AM
I sure hope that they add connectivity with the PS3 version. It might also boost PC sales since there might be PS3 owners of the game out there who tire of getting beaten by m/kb users and when to do a bit of pwning themselves.
GRANTED @ Nov 12th 2007 11:28AM
Yeah PC sales really need a boost.
Nate @ Nov 12th 2007 11:50AM
PS3 users can *use* kb & mouse in UT3. Geez, keep up with things, that's been known for months and months.
Ted @ Nov 12th 2007 12:01PM
Holy crap Nate, calm it. The fact that I'm not up to date on PS3 news probably has something to do with the fact that I don't care about the PS3 and do all my gaming on PC. Just because you've known it for months and months doesn't mean I should have.
Alex @ Nov 12th 2007 11:29AM
GameSpy suck ass.
Jeff @ Nov 12th 2007 11:35AM
Truth. I frigging hate Gamespy.
I thought this was announced forever ago, but guess not.
gonk @ Nov 12th 2007 11:45AM
now this announcement makes me a little more glad i decided to not get ut3
Jeff @ Nov 12th 2007 11:53AM
Decided not to get Ut3?
What drugs are you doing? =P
bounchfx @ Nov 12th 2007 12:18PM
gotta agree. not a huge fan of gamespy.
ugh.
still excited as hell for the game though!
gonk @ Nov 12th 2007 12:09PM
not enough :(
Shawn @ Nov 12th 2007 1:15PM
gotta disagree here, so long as the browser and interface is similar to what we got in UT2k4, it should be fine. To me, anything is better than Windows Live, which is plaguing Gears PC right now. That service might be great for Xbox, but not for PC.
WiNG @ Nov 12th 2007 11:48AM
Gamespy has always been horrible. They should just make a cross platform setup and have PC dedicated servers run everything.
Nate @ Nov 12th 2007 11:53AM
I would really love it if the PS3 version could play online with PC versions. I only want to buy one copy of the game, and since the PS3 version supports keyboard & mouse, I'd totally buy it if I could play it against my PC-owning friends. If it can't, there's really no reason for me to buy the PS3 version, since not all my friends have PS3s, but all my friends do have computers.
edhe @ Nov 13th 2007 8:40AM
The gamespay connection is pretty dire.
Norm @ Nov 12th 2007 1:07PM
I'm not so hot for gamespy either. Every game I have played with that service has been an annoying, convoluted, laggy mess. maybe it's gotten better recently, but I really don't see that happening.
okenny @ Nov 12th 2007 1:45PM
The thing that amazes me is tall that shit talking and leg kicking Epic was doing about LIVE not being up to par just to end up using a medicore technology by comparison is funny. Great job Epic! You didn't sell your soul to the devil!! You're so L337!
GoonieGooGoo @ Nov 12th 2007 3:56PM
Great....GAMESPY games on PS2 Online were soooo reliable.......They can only improve on PS3 (Please note sarcasm). Seriously....if this is the only choice you have on PS3 for online gaming.....I'd say pass. You get what you pay for.
Played the demo on PC......Crysis is better.....just seemed like more of the same old UT....which if you like it is great I guess. Not a huge fan myself.
ThornedVenom @ Nov 12th 2007 7:55PM
Don't care, don't care! Just gimme UT3 online multiplayer NAO!
