Blue's Journey is actually pretty good, a little variety from SNK before their system went with Madden-style yearly updates to clunky fighting games.. but I guess since it doesn't have guns and murder, today's kids probably can't get any enjoyment out of it.

Jason,
Your right Baseball Stars 2 is better (I had it for Neo Geo, best 2 player)....but knowing how the VC works, Baseball Stars Professional will come first then wait and wait for part 2.

Nothing really striking my fancy this week. I've got such a backlog of games that whatever games I get for Christmas might not leave their shrink wrap until February. Well, except Mario Galaxy.

Gah! Axeley sits at the top of my SNES-games-I-never-bought-but-I-wish-I-did list. Awesome graphics, music, boss battles, and unlike most shmups it actually takes more skill to win than memorization. I promised myself that I'd buy this the instant it came out on VC and this had to be the week they released it. Oh, and I also just happen to have only 700 points sitting in reserve right now.

Lay off of Axelay there, submitter.

It wasn't ALL vertical scrolling. Anyone who had played it would have known that. And it was indeed a good bit of fun back in the day, and is a generally well remembered game for good reason.

I will give you that it probably will not be as much fun in this day and age as SM Galaxy.

Axelay = Excellent

One of the few shooters that I have yet to beat...(Ikaragu and that other one from SquareSoft being the other 2)...out of the shooters that I've actually played/wanted to play.

I loved the hell out of Axelay, but luckily I still have my working cartridge. And there's no way it is getting between me and Galaxy. They should've swept more crap like Volleyball under the radar this week.

axelay has some of the best music from the SNES days... I've spent days obsessing over level ones theme music.

Axelay rules. Aside from ThunderForce III and IV on the Genesis it was probably the best shooter of that era.

Clearly this article was written by someone who has never played Axelay (as evidenced by the "vertical shooter" comment. Clearly Mr. McElroy looked up a screenshot and found a review or comment or something in order to put out the blog entry with the least effort possible. This is an amazing game that absolutely warrants a purchase for shmup fans. Tallest midget my ass.

"Arms installation is complete. Good luck."

Still sends chills down my spine. Axelay is The Shit. The second stage? Best art direction of any shmup in the 2D era. Hugely imaginative. Way too short at 6 stages, but defintely worth the price of admission.
