Alone in the Dark confirmed for Wii, PS2

The long-delayed game, which marks the fifth title in the Alone in the Dark franchise, was first announced in 2005, and features a script penned by Sleepers author Lorenzo Carcaterra. Interestingly, however, while the earlier announced versions of the game are being developed by Test Drive Unlimited devs Eden, the Wii and PS2 duties have been handed off to French developer Hydravision, which has some survival horror chops themselves having developed the Obscure series of games. It's still anyone's guess when Alone in the Dark in any form will make it to retail, though considering that there hasn't been a decent title in the series since Edward Carnby's 1992 debut, we think we can wait.

Why is it that Wii game releases are announced together with the PS2 and the PSP most of the times? Is it because they are similar platforms ? Last-gen ?
GRANTED @ Nov 13th 2007 11:35AM
You mean Wii right?

Good grief, its been since 1992.
that first game scared the bajeezus out of me. Must be because I was 10 years old at the time.
Shockgamer @ Nov 13th 2007 11:38AM
Because it's easier for the developers to just make a PS2 game and port it to Wii and PSP instead of trying to push the Wii's abilities.
It's funny, as much grief as the Wii is giving the PS3 and 360, it's also keeping the PS2 going.

I can literally count the polygons in that image. This is not a good thing.
hvnlysoldr @ Nov 13th 2007 12:49PM
Let's 1, 2 skip a few 100 polygons.

Wow...that screenshot is pretty ugly...
Anyway, why is it a surprise that the Wii version is always mentioned alongside the PS2 version? They are the top two selling consoles, so I'm sure that's moreso the motivater than the lack of graphical power of both systems.
I don't feel that my Wii is "Next Gen". It feels like that console I bought to play Wii Sports and Metroid Prime 3 because they weren't available for the Gamecube. Wii Fit will be another minor reason in the future. Other than that...well, I'll stop there.

Dear God, THAT'S the Wii version?!
Martez @ Nov 13th 2007 12:49PM
Aw, beat me to it. *devious grin*
AstroZombie @ Nov 13th 2007 11:58AM
Wow, that screenshot looks pretty good for a PS1 game! Great job, Atari!
Admiral_Mike @ Nov 13th 2007 12:12PM
why do you always show the worst screen shot?
these are much better http://kotaku.com/photogallery/aitd1113/
it-hobbit @ Nov 13th 2007 1:52PM
Because(wait for it) "OMG TEH joyztiq is BIAS"! Nah probably didn't have a better shot, looks like RE4 though
Jason @ Nov 13th 2007 1:06PM
I wouldn't say "much" better. I can still count like 3 polygons that make up his entire face.
megaStryke @ Nov 13th 2007 1:40PM
JESUS! All that bloom hurts my eyes!
zmog @ Nov 13th 2007 12:17PM
why do people insist with messing with this series? the original AITD was amazing and probably better than any current or future release.
WiNG @ Nov 13th 2007 12:40PM
I don't know why anyone ever liked AITD games.
I played the original on Saturn. It was one of the worst games I've ever played. It had horrible controls, worse camera angles, and pitiful sound effects.
It was only scary because you had a 5% chance of being able to actually control your character around the blind corners well enough to survive.
megaStryke @ Nov 13th 2007 1:39PM
Maybe that's because the original game was made for the PC. And you were playing the Saturn port. Hence, the issue.
WiNG @ Nov 13th 2007 2:11PM
Pretty sure horrible camera angles and sound effects were always in the game.
And as for control, assuming you used anything that wasn't just mouse clicking on PC, how would they be different?
megaStryke @ Nov 13th 2007 4:19PM
I had to double check to make sure, but the original Alone in the Dark was never on the Saturn. The entry Saturn got was Alone in the Dark 2. I win.
