Even if your PS3 doesn't work with PS2 games, apparently your fancy, imported DualShock 3 controller will. And that doesn't just include letting you spin two (count 'em!) two analog sticks while you're catching monkeys with a net. No, friends, you'll also be able to feel the visceral thrill of rumbling as you whack the monkeys with your stun club. ... Or, you know, play other PS2 games that don't involve catching monkeys. The DualShock 3's rumbling abilities with PS2 games, which only a few would have noticed by now, was apparently added by the PS3's 2.0 firmware.
So the DualShock 3 is the newest gen of a next-gen peripheral now reaching back through time to accommodate a last-gen feature on last-gen games. But the only PS3s that support it will be those that play last-gen games, a feature that itself has become last-gen. We've honestly lost count of the layers of irony. Help us out here, Alanis.
No, they're just saying that Sony finally included rumble a "last gen feature" in their "newest generation" of the "next generation" controller (sixaxis), and that this last gen rumble will work in last gen games played on the next gen PS3. But the newest model of the next gen PS3 doesn't play last gen games. So we have a new gen sixaxis that rumbles in last gen games that half the PS3 skus can't even play.
Do you get the irony yet, or do I have to explain it in a more ironic fashion?
Lighten up francis. The story is playing on the flame element so that people will come in here and freak out. Anyone with the original backwards compatable units would be happy about this feature, but that leaves little to comment on and have fun with.
Oh yeah, congrats on being the first zomgjoystiqistoobiased guy.
Let Me get this straight, Rumble is "last Gen", but DVD-9 is not... I've recently given up on this "Console War" thing there are holes in both arguments, and my new ambition in not arguing a point on Joystiq... but providing monetarily and emotionaly for my Family (what was I focused on b4???) ... none of theses companies pay You guys enough to argue/make silly baseless quips, So I suggest more time playing Your $60 investments (the games) and less time fighting over which company You spend more money on...
LOL, My Xbox is visiting Texas...Again, and in addition I am stuck at work for 5 more hours....You seem to be the one "emotionally" involved in this whole thing...Mr PSN guy.
Oh really? Give me an example of where I trolled other than where I'm replying to a troll like Fernando. Fernando feels to need to pop into almost every single thread and make some stupid comment about the PS3. Where do I do that? Seriously, you're a far bigger troll than I am yourself. But way to to back-up your fellow troll, that's admirable.
Last I checked quotation marks can also be used in fictional literature to indicate dialogue... So the use is not only limited to quotes of individuals.
In this form he is indicating dialogue he himself is not saying but fictionally implying a seperate character stateing... Usually indicated audibly by a change of tone and pitch or making "quotation mark" gestures with ones fingers... Please refer to the wiki for quotation marks for further details...
Also yes I realize I'm really bored here at work and have nothing better to do right now....
Technically Intentless, yes, though that's a quote of a fictional individual. Maybe its a gray area. While in context it's a quote, its not an account of actual events.
I fail to see how that makes it less bullshit, since we are not fictional. Are you saying that if I made up an inside source that said Nintendo was going to drop all Wii support in 2009 because they made their money already and just put it in quotation marks the blatant fabrication would be acceptable?
You would include with it the fact you were quoting an indvidual or "unnamed source." Quotations of individuals themselves should always be accompanied by a seperate indicator. And yes the SDF may be real. Just as the american soldiers fighting in WWII, but at the same time there are plenty of fictional characters that could be labeled just simply American Soldier from WWII. Just as is any satirical recreation of any political figure.
You trev are assuming anything and everything in quotations on this site indicates a report or leak of information from one source or another. It is meant to be bullshit or as an associate as pointed out satire...
Boredom makes people with short attention spans and high metabalisms do pointless things that have no meaning and even they don't care... Especially when I'm drinking red bull.
Honestly, I'd accept satire as an explanation if he wasn't such a pest all the time (or had at least come up with that defense himself).
Besides, satire is good more in delivery than in content and we get no delivery here. When P.A. does it, they've got a comic with some sort of indication of tone for it. I laughed pretty hard at "Coriolis Effect" and at their Lair/1.9x firmware comic.
Satire is like trolling, but with style, humor, and the sense when the bit has gotten old. Without that, its just annoying.

So Joystiq is so blinded by their irrational hate of Sony that they think only the 40gb versions work with the DualShock 3 controllers? A whaaaaaaa!?
JL @ Nov 14th 2007 10:08AM
Was the "a whaaaaaa?" a professor farnsworth quote? It sounded that way in my head.

Well, it wouldn't be funny if you said dvds were last-gen because neither Nintendo nor Microsoft have ever agreed with it.
And I don't think I've ever heard the verses of that song! They're interesting, but I am vaguely concerned as to who's driving.

Everyone here in this post is bashing Sony.

Its cuz they've got nothing better to do than act all high and mighty...
I mean really Fernando its like asking why sony fanboys are all so arrogant...
Its just in their nature. You do you and don't worry about them. Clearly they have selective vision.

Fernando isn't doing anything unusual. Its not like hes the one person on this thread who just happens to not like sony.

PS1 games still work on PS3, since its 100% software emulation. I would imagine rumble would work on those PS1 games as well.
FF7 never had rumble, however.
