Chrono, the rumble in the DS3 will also work in future and past PS3 games with patches, so its probably only "half-irony" at most my NDF friend, or shall I shall nemesis? : )

So you complain the PS3 is too expensive, they cut out PS2 compatibility to bring the price to a reasonable level and yet people still bitch and bitch and beeeetch. Forget it, Sony can't do anything right, whereas Nintendo can do nothing wrong can they?

It is hard being one of the three SDF members here on Joystiq.

I'm not saying they were wrong to add the rumble. Its just ironic the situation Sony has boxed themselves into.

But they were wrong to remove PS2 BC to save 20 bucks on production. That was a bonehead move.

And 400 dollars is still 50-100 dollars too expensive.

fyi, they didn't cut out ps2 compat to make the system cheaper, they did it so those new ps3 owners had to buy the $60 ps3 games instead of the $20 ps2 games

If $400 is too expensive, how are people buying 360s?

It's the same price ($400) to buy a 360 and play online for a year as it is to buy a PS3 and play online for a year...if you're using ethernet. If you use WiFi, the 360 costs more.

I agree the high prices of HD gaming consoles limits their sales somewhat. But both consoles suffer equally and work around it by trying to appeal to those who spent $1K on a TV recently and don't have any qualms spending a bit more for a gaming console that looks good on it.

I don't play online, LS. Therefore, if I had bought a 360 at a store, I could get one RIGHT NOW for 270 dollars, which is still pushing it as far as expensive goes. 350 if I wanted the premium.

Me, I got mine off ebay (premium) with 2 controllers for about 250 dollars, 9 months ago. RRoD worked in my favor.

What you SDF morons don't realize is that you've now been conditioned to think that 400 dollars is a good price for a new game console. Heads up: its not. Its still raping your wallet, when game consoles 5 years ago cost 300 at launch and very quickly dropped to 200-250 dollars, usually within 6 months to a year of launch.

360 is still too expensive, new, also. A 300 dollar premium would be right on the edge of affordable. A 250 dollar console is affordable, and a 200 dollar console flies off the shelves.

Get a clue.

He does have a point the subject says "DualShock 3 rumble works with PS2 games" but that's not true of the 40GB model. But Wing is more right, he does need some help in the head.

Joystiq:
Sony only dropped PS2 BC from one model.

Why the negativism?

gonk: there are other units in Europe. 40GB is the only one "in production" in Europe right now, but the 60GB wasn't in production for 5 months in the US (at least) and was available until about two weeks ago.

It isn't ironic because the PS3 DOES support PS2 games, just one model doesn't. Saying "The PS3 now supports rumble in PS2 games" isn't ironic when the PS3 still supports PS2 games, which it does.

What do you expect? Joystiq's writers will spin any bit of negative Sony news into a huge ass snowball rolling down a mountain.

Face it, every console generation needs a whipping boy for frustrated little boys to pour their anger into, from the N-Gage to Virtual Boy to Saturn to Gizmodo to PS3.

There's a lot of hypocrisy here. Sony can't do anything right it seems. They put back rumble, people bitch, they rose FoldingAtHome to huge levels, people bitch, they get some exclusives, people bitch at wanting them on their consoles.

Sony was so great during the PS1 and PS2 days, PSP is kickass as well, its a shame about the PS3, all good things come to an end, just like Nintendo lost their luster with the N64 when they were arrogant like Sony and stuck to cartidges and lost games like FF7. But they rebounded and I hope Sony can as well.

Meh, so Sony gave the fanboys what they wanted with their last-gen rumble fetish, and it works with last-gen rumbling games. Not sure what the problem is. If you don't like rumble, don't get a DS3, or turn it off. If you do like rumble, get the DS3. If you like rumble in PS2 games, get one of the widely available 80 gig models that have BC, or even one of the 60gig models that are still hanging around.

Kudos to Joystiq for their creative use of the Ironic video. I had to start it up before I realized what it was. Funny :) I do think it's one of those ironic things, but I don't think it's anything worth getting feathers ruffled about.

if i get the 40 gb ps3 that doesn't play ps2 games... WHY WOULD I CARE if the rumble won't work for ps2 games?

crono.. justin.. stop being retarded and overcomplicating things.

thank you sony for making rumble work with ps2 games ONLY for the skus that PLAY ps2 games, cause the feature is fucking useless for the skus that DO NOT play ps2 games.

With a firmware update can sony unlock BC on the 40gig models? If they can i assume they will eventually. In its infant years the PS2 was also thought to be a failure.

I did here something about PS3 with 360 BC. Ask any Sony fanboy and they will tell you it so. As for the Wii BC, either system can pull that off.

Is the Japanese / Asian version of the DualShock 3 controller any different from the US version? I'm going to get a US 60 gig console that doesn't come with DS3, and I'm considering ordering the DS3 controller off Play-Asia. That won't have the O and X swapped, will it?
