That list doesn't mention Earthbound 0 (or English Mother 1), of which, there are only like 5 copies I think.

From the article:

"I considered not putting it on this list though. Everyone has heard of Atari or NES, even if you’re not a gamer. The Neo Geo however, is much more of a niche system."

So he thinks more people have heard of the Vectrex or Vic 20 than the Neo geo...methinks this person is a little mistaken.

Vectrex, maybe not. But the Vic-20 was quite popular in it's time - it sold far better than the Neo Geo (2.5 mil, compared to 1 mil). Most under the age of 25 might not recognize the name, but unlike the Neo Geo, there were *lots* of these in homes in it's heyday (indeed, Linus Torvalis' first computer was a Vic-20)

I got it to work after about 20 refresh attempts. Then it loaded with no images, so I had to try 3 more times.

Page won't load. But in regards to the post at hand

'or $(insert any amount here) for Bomberman: Act Zero'

Ironically, I got it for free. I entered one of those OXM contest where you guess the game image on the spine of the magazine, mostly in jest, because well...it was Bomberman: Act Zero. I'm assuming nobody else bothered with it...and lo and behold it came in the mail for me. BTW: it's one of the worst games I've played.

That's weird. I wonder if they pulled the article. (There was a discussion on there about the actual source of the post; apparently it appeared first on someone else's site.)

I remember the Nintendo Campus Challenge. I didn't realize how limited it was (or maybe it wasn't that limited, but no one really remembers its scope) - I just figured that it was at every major university.

The article is pretty interesting. I remember playing in the Blockbuster tournament, except I sucked at every game other than NBA Jam and Sonic 3. I got 10th place in the state for Sonic 3, and I didn't even own the game to practice it!

You're thinking of the wrong contest. The Judge Dredd/NBA Jam cart is from the contest in '95. You played NBA Jam for I think a 3 minutes quarter and were given X * 10000 points for how well you did in the game. (I remember shutting out the CPU, catching fire after three shots, and following the hot spots around with my player to get something insane.)

Then you played Judge Dredd and your scores were added together. I won the Regional Championship at two stores in SoCal and had 4 free game rentals for a month. (Really useful once I got to college.)

I never played Judge Dredd.

The games I played IIRC are:

NBA Jam
Sonic 3
Virtua Racer (GEN port)
and I feel like the Ninja Turtles fighting game

not too sure on the last one

Yeah, that's why I think you're referring to a different contest than the one that the cart in the article's from. You may have competed in the contest that was the year after the year the cart's from. I didn't bother trying to defend my title. :)

Holy crap that article has so many typos.

The only "rare" games I want to get are debugging carts.
