on the xbox.com forums trixie360 stated this:

"No, this isn't a new or updated game with new code. This is the classic Halo: Combat Evolved. The coolness is that you can download it over Xbox LIVE--you don't have to mess with a disc."

URL: http://forums.xbox.com/16708601/ShowPost.aspx

So, basically you don't have to get off of your asses to put a new disc in the tray. For only 15 bucks!

Yeah, not going to buy if they didn't do anything... achievements are the key to success here, but microsoft must be out of touch with the consumer.

this is the kinda shit you expect when playing emulated games.... so i guess i'm not too surprised. I just guessed that with a generous handful of games that are BC, these ones wouldn't have issues.

It's no more lazy than what's offered elsewhere. The difference being that XBLA offers the "new game" alternative. I'm not really sure why anyone expected updates or anything else to these titles. They're technically the first company to even offer last-generation downloads at all. Sony is still doing PS1 and Nintendo caps out at N64 (which I would remind every one is $10, also with no changes at all).

It's still more than I'm willing to pay knowing I can dig these games up myself.

I still think this is a gigantic waste of time and effort on Microsoft's part. Why pay $15 to download an old Xbox game when you can pick up a used copy from a local game store for $5? I would have much rather seen them put the effort into making more games backwards compatible and fixing the issues with current backwards compatible games.

Totally agree with everyone who is saying they are doing it for the money.

Are the games being released not b.w.c? I haven't tried Halo in the 360 due to a sticky fingered ex, but the question begs to be asked...why are they doing this?! (To the games and to us.)

By giving us shit, and shitting upon us, the backs of the 360, they are slowly killing their own product. Maybe they've all lost their minds and are trying to turn us agaisnt ourselves, or maybe it's all a secret ploy to get us to buy something else.

I dunno. I'm rambling and pissed that we lose on this. WE ALWAYS LOSE!

I agree that it's a good idea. However, why would I pay $15 for a game I can get on ebay for $5. Not to mention the space to store these games. I would prefer to have the discs. I don't really care too much about hd updates and the like... but achievements would have been the kicker for me. I already own halo... no need to buy it again.

A couple of things I considered.

1. Achievements would require more coding, thus more expenses to the company which then would be charged to the consumer to recap on said extra expenses.

2. This may be a new ploy to push the 120g HDD. who knows how big these will be.

The only advantage to this I see would be to release games that are hard to get like Psychonauts and one of my personal favs, Marvel vs. Capsom 2 which is insanely expensive on eBay.

I'd rather they add achievements to previous games. There are backwards compatibility updates for specific games and the console recognizes the titles, so why not add patches to trigger achievements? Even if they are game progress achievements (and not "collected X items"), that would be better than paying $15 for something, as others have said, you can pick up at any Gamestop for cheap. I'd even pay a couple (READ: A COUPLE) bucks to add achievement patches.

No offense meant but... Emily, what in the blue hell are you talking about. Firstly OF COURSE they are doing it for the money. They aren't sat around in a board room trying to decide how to make people happy, they are trying to decide how to make money, and this WILL make them a lot of money, because whilst many educated gamers will realise that purchasing a previous generation game in this way is over priced there will be many others that won't think in thes way and will simply see it as being 'cool'. Also how are they turning 'us against ourselves' - this statement made no sense to me whatsoever. You were right about one thing though, you were rambling... blah blah blah - too harsh? Well maybe, but MS are turning me against myself, I can't help it!!!

Of course they are doing it for the money, they are a business. I find it funny how many people are complaining over something that hasn't come out yet. No one if forcing anyone to buy these, its just a service like the video rentals. There is no conspiracy here, just offering a service. Maybe intelligent feedback could get them to add achievements in the future, but for now chill, just don't buy the games.

All I want is for my Xbox to say "Achievement Unlocked" when I grab the last piece of Emotional Baggage in Psychonauts, is that too much to ask?

I also think it would be one thing if these games were simply not playable otherwise. Say, for example, I could only play Psychonauts through this service I'd have something to complain about. The problem is that I can also just go buy this anywhere in person and play it just the same. Same with every title on this list so far.

So if you feel eBay is the better alternative, go for it. What's stopping you? What has changed there at all? Nothing. I can't even think of how this hurts me at all.

For those that want the (more) instant gratification, this is there too. If you're like me and don't want to spend $15 for these games, then go buy them and enjoy the EXACT same experience (hell, an even better one given these bugs lol).

So instead of getting new stuff added to the games, they're actually taking stuff away? Like the demos on Halo for example. No thanks. I'd rather own the disc and box anyway.

okay, if these are basically going to just be xbox roms, then there's no way i'm going to buy any of these. i figured they'd be like xbla games, with cheevos and full-functionality. if it's just going to be like loading up an xbox disc, then there's little point.

Wow...when I heard about this new service yesterday I thought it was really cool. Then this morning I read the post on Major Nelson's blog about how the want to preserve the original play experience (no achievements, no enhancements). Hey, guess what Microsoft, I already had the original play experience! I want the enhanced play experience!

Still, I was still kind of on the fence about whether I would put any money towards these games. That is, until I read this post. You're going to sell me a game for $15 that I could buy at GS or eBay for $5...but this time with bugs added in?

NO BUYS.

See...the problem with the MS offerings here aren't that they're just repackaging the old games for download, with no achievements or improvements, it's that they've introduced new issues while doing it. At least (afaik) the Nintendo VC games only keep their original idiosyncrasies. I don't know what the state of the Sony games currently is, so meh.

Not to mention you can probably pick up any of these games rather cheaply at a used game store..
