Koei, the name behind such diverse titles as Dynasty Warriors, Warriors Orochi, and Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, has confirmed plans to bring Samurai Warriors: Katana, a first-person Samurai Warriors spin-off title for the Wii, to North America on January 15, 2008.
While we have to admit the name carries more appeal than the previous title, Samurai Slash, the announcement of yet another arcade-style title set in Feudal Japan does little to stir our interest, and given the frantic nature of these games our arms are tired just thinking of having to flail madly at never ending waves of on-screen bad guys. Call us lazy, but sometimes, just sometimes, we'd rather just press a button. Even so, with "nearly" 30 hours of gameplay promised on top of an included two player versus mode, Wii owners looking to tap into their inner samurai finally have something to look forward to playing. If you need us, we'll be taking a nap.

I do XP
I don't mind some repetitive games, also I tend to like the backgrounds of these games.
Also I find it fun to run into large crowds of people and kill them all in a few seconds :D
Still any game that has over 30 characters or so in a game (or 70 if we talk about Orochi) That all have different fighting styles (well not button wise XP) is still quite cool.
But the thing is they change more each time then sodding sport games.

I play these as well. I've played 3, 3XL, 4, 4XL, 5, 5XL... I've skipped the other Warrior titles, just the main ones because I enjoy the Romance of the Three Kingdoms stories. And as explained above, having 55+ characters each with unique fighting styles and tons of collectibles that effect your character is great. By your logic of "it hasn't changed since the second one!" - EverQuest, Ultima Online, and World of Warcraft haven't changed much since their original release (new expansions of zones, PCs, and upgraded graphics, thats it)... Surely you aren't knocking the 9.3+million players of WoW, are you?
Anyways, I'm skipping over this one because I hate the Wii's Waggle Craptastic gameplay. The matching shite graphics definitely don't help. I'll be awaiting DW6 on the Xbox360 in '08, alongside a much needed extended clip plane, more on screen baddies and online co-op. Wooohoooo! Gan Ning, I'mma comin'!

This is the system that's two GameCubes duct-taped together you know. You really can't expect much more from a 480p system.

This COULD be fun, but I wonder how great this is going to be.
I can't help to wonder if 3rd-person view would have been better, because you ARE wielding a sword, therefore distance is important. But at the same time, when you're playing in 1st person view, it doesn't really matter how horribly bad your character model looks, as well as for its animations.

How many Wii games actually make you "flail madly?" I think I had to in one minigame in Rayman. I can't really think of anything else. Has Jason Dobson even played the Wii?

This game is at the very least worth a rental. I'm actually tried of long complex games. I just wanna play a game that's fun and easy to jump into. There was a time when we would go to the arcade and spend handful of quarters on simple beat 'em up and shooter games. I miss that feeling.

I welcome the dumb downed games as long as there're fun.
