you do know its republicans that are for video games, as it is free speech
dems want to restrict them, or impose penalties on them
republicans aren't all that bad.

@sam
I'm a registered Democrat, however I also have some very Republican views. I suppose I'm more of a Libertarian than anything else.

But my point is, while having some slightly Liberal views, I'm very much about free-speech; especially in terms of art forms such as video games, books, movies, music and whatever.

And I happen to know a few Conservatives who are actually completely opposite of that. You must keep in mind that Conservatives tend to hold more religious values and find many things in video games to be considered offensive. Take a look at the MPAA.

no, both sides hate videogames. the repubs are the crazy christians that think nobody should ever see a nipple or hear a swear word, and the dems apparently go along with that to avoid looking like godless infedels

@strangebum: yeah, there's the christian right that doesn't want violence, sex, etc etc, but there are also advocates on the left that are very much against whats depicted in video games, movies and the like. Everyone for dems has to be politically correct, appeal to everyone and not offend anyone. Republicans hate that, the fact that you must sanitize everything just go please everyone. It doesn't work like that and if you want to represent your views, then go do, the public will judge your negatively or positively, and if you selling something, the market will make that judgement too. Its not about the religious right censoring things, its also the PC-charged left that want to sanitize your freedoms to make way for ultimate diversity and tolerance.
And that to me is why republicans aren't all that bad.

This is why I love being a libertarian, I can make fun of both sides as they constantly contradict themselves. Left wants big government yet high personal freedom yet those two cannot coexist. The right wants to somehow control the population with a small government.

The right is wrong. The left is stupid.

Yeah, it is odd, the left wing has room for both the hardcore ACLU (even those who will fight for the rights of the Nazis to protest stuff) and the neo-socialists, while the right wing has room for the starch-bland FCC and its ilk (like John Ashcroft), and the Strom Thurmond states' rights nuts (not saying their racist, but aside from his racism, he was the leader of states' rights in his day)

Plus the whole left is pro-abortion and anti-death penalty, while right is anti-abortion pro-death penalty, try to figure that one out

Well, the death penalty and abortion thing is pretty easy to understand.

The right's philisophy is you shouldn't kill anyone without proper due process of law. Hence, criminals are alright because the due process part was applied but the unborn isn't because they didn't do anything to be executed over.

The left is pretty screwed up in this matter and is completely contradictary. Protect the lives of the guilty and kill off the innocent because the unborn child is an inconvenience. Figure that one out.

The left is not pro-abortion. Trust me. I am. They're pro-choice. They support the option as a last resort, but think it should still be legal and a woman's right to decide. I say abort 'em all.

But that map sure makes most of the country look red when it goes all-or-nothing like that. A nice little picture to simplify the country and make it look like Bush got 80% of the vote or some stupid shit. Here's a more accurate look of the split last election.

Here it is with shades of purple showing how close many of the counties (not states) actually were:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/be/2004_US_elections_purple_counties.png

Here it is with the size of the counties adjusted for population size, so the blue ones are gigantic and the red ones are babies:

http://www.dinocrat.com/wp-content/BushCountry04Map.jpg

Also, don't believe all the statistics you see. Like....Wikipedia's!
Whose behind it? What sources were used? Who conducted it? What type of questions were asked? blah blah blah blah blah and so on and so forth.

The link I posted was from Sean Hannity's website a few years back and I'm assuming he got it from election results in each county.
Whatever.

As I said before, the "all or nothing" approach will make it look entirely red but is totally misleading, which is why people like Sean Hannity like it so much. Many of those counties were within 5% points and should be purple, and those blue counties have half the country's population. And Sean Hannity is the biggest toolbox this side of the moon.

The great thing about Wikipedia (which its haters always conveniently ignore) is that IT CITES ITS SAUCES. So... here's the sauce for those pictures I linked to. It has many more interesting pictures as well.

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/election/

They also do a great page on the 2006 Congressional Election, which shows that even when the Democrats completely dominate, the "all or nothing" style map will still look mostly red. All those red counties have like 3 voters and a cow each. It's nothing to brag about.

I never said I hated wikipedia, its just not 100% reliable. I happen to use it everyday and I hope that what I'm reading isn't total junk. Also, have you met Sean Hannity? Not at his book signings or at some other stupid promotional but in real life, with his family? No? Well that makes sense, but I have. And he's pretty down to earth when you talk to him He's got a big personality, but thats just him in his element on the radio. He's not a toolbox, he's a pretty smart guy. And I don't see you publishing best selling books, having a decent radio show and being as well liked (and hated) as him.
Don't make judgements on people you don't entirely know and just categorize them for their politics that you don't agree with.

Well I'll trust you when you say he's a great person in real life, but it is my opinion that the way he presents himself to the rest of the world through his radio and TV shows is the toolbox method. It is not due to his ideology alone, but due to some very ridiculous things he's said. I shall leave it at that. Good day sir.

Reading from the press release, this survey does not in any way account or control for *demographics* differences between people of different party affiliations.

That makes the results very *weak* in meaning from a statistical perspective!

I read the survey as age being more of a factor than political leanings. I'm 33 and conservative yet I grew up with video games. I also can't stand Madden and prefer everything from strategy games to FPSs to simulations.

Don't care for Sims though... But I can see why liberals enjoy it. You're like this big god government peeking in and keeping tabs on everyone. ;)

Thats because political views isn't an opinion, its a sign of a completely different world view. Conservatives and Liberals both want the best for their country, the difference lies the perceived the best course of action.

Since this is a "symptom" of their world view, it isn't surprising that almost all their interests and opinions are different.

Not wrong, just different.
