Did I miss an update regarding the purpose of these coins? What, exactly do these do? Why would we care about wagering coins if we have no idea of their purpose.

The coins were mentioned in Classic Mode, that you get more coins for doing well. As it sounds, the coins probably play the same role as in Melee, for use in the lottery to gain more trophies. However, he hasn't straight out said that they have the same use. For all we know, they could be for some sort of shop to unlock new content. Yeah, that would be cool... especially if they update it with WiiConnect24 with new content regularly... :) hey, a guy can dream.

I'm pretty stoked about this. I love spectator modes for picking up moves from players better than I am (which isn't too hard to find). I'll be using this, for sure!

I'll definitely be using it, but it'd be tough to tell who is who (read: separating pros from scrubs) so it's kinda a gamble each time.

I could see myself watching the remainder of a tournament if I get beat.

I hope they allow you to watch friends' matches. That would be sweet.

And @ 5, they haven't yet announced online tournaments, or whether you can pick specific matches to watch, though if they do have that, I'll agree with you. I wanna see the person who beats me get KO'd!

I remember them mentioning the coins in an earlier post but it still doesn't answer any questions. These daily updates kinda play out like "Memento".

This would be 10,000 times cooler if you could pick who you were watching. That way, when you hear that Ken (best Smash Melee player in the world) is also the best Smash Brawl player in the world, you could study his matches. But as it is, you could be watching Ken's Aunt Judy playing against a six-year-old girl from Canada.

So does this mean that you'd be able to have a person watch a match from the same console as well. By that I mean, is it possible to bet on the outcome of your own match? I would assume not, due to the possibility of rigging it, but still, it would be amusing otherwise.

When I first saw this update, I was quite excited, but when I got to the part that implied the inability to choose which matches to watch and to view names, I became much less enthused. Hopefully, that won't all be true for the "friend code" matches. Then you could play with 5 or 6 friends and losers would have to "sit out" matches, but could still watch.
Also, @6 you never want the person who KO'd you to get knocked out. That makes you look even more inferior. If someone KO's you, you want them to finish first. This leaves open the possibilty that you were truly second best, but unfortunately lost in an earlier round.

Let me see if I understand the thrust of this.

1.) You select "Spectate". They connect you to a totally random game full of totally random, anonymous people. This is retarded.

2.) You bet on the totally random people, having no idea who you've actually bet on. This is extra-retarded.

3.) You win or lose your hard-earned coins based on whether somebody you not only don't know, but know nothing about, wins their match. This is astoundingly retarded.

4.) You continue spectating, but now are watching 4 totally different (also unknown) people play. You can bet on them, too. This is so retarded that acutal retarded people feel bad for them.

Have I got that right?

@#11

I hate to break it to you James but I just checked the dictionary and none of those statements would fall under "retarded". Thus each time you add emphasis, your opinion becomes more and more meaningless.
