SingStar for the PS3 has returned from its state of release limbo and is ready to help the UK and Australia belt out next-gen karaoke beginning the first week in December. Australia will receive the game Dec. 6 and the UK on Dec. 7. There is currently no announcement for the US.
The game will come as a standalone title or with a bundle that has two wired microphones. SingStar will also launch with 40-plus downloadable tracks on the SingStore. In the UK a song will cost 99p to download, which converted is about $2 USD, and that's how much the UK pays for a single off iTunes, so it sounds contextually fair. Australia will pay A$2.50 per download, which converted is about $2.25 USD. We now wait to see what the US gets charged, because there ain't no way in Hades we're paying more for a SingStar download than a Rock Band download.

In the UK we pay 79p for a single from iTunes. Basically music is a rip off like everything else in the UK.

The 99p download includes the hi-def music video. Price of a music video on Itunes is £1.89.

Fair pricing but I'd still love themed expansion packs. Perhaps bundles? Basically, I'd love to build a library without swapping discs.

Hm, looks like they're finally at least attempting to address what certain karaoke lovers such as myself see as the crippling flaw in Singstar games: the fact that they used the original recordings, meaning you usually could not turn off the artist's vocals. From an interview:
"We did keep searching for another solution to the problem. For SingStar on PS3, we've found a pretty good technological solution which can reduce the artist vocals for the majority of songs."
"There are some songs which don't work with the technology because of the way the song was mixed in the recording studio, but overall, it's really good."
That's progress I suppose. Still, any track on which the vocals cannot be completely removed is useless as far as I'm concerned, so hopefully that 'majority of songs' is overwhelming.

I hope the songs are no more then 99 cents. Plus I thought the mics for the PS3 Singstar game was to be wireless not wired. I guess they could not find a way to make the mics wireless which I would have thought would have been easy but I guess not.

That is the worst box art I've seen since the NES days.
