Wii bested by PS3 in Japanese sales
Nintendo may be back on top
in the NPD numbers, but the Wii found itself slipping in Japanese sales. Not only did the Wii's sales fall by almost 10% in Japan last week, but the Playstation 3's sales increased by 38%. This was enough for the PS3 to be the highest selling, non-portable console for the week of 11/5-11/11 in Japan.
The hardware sales in Japan for last week were as follows:
- Nintendo DS: 78,884
- PlayStation Portable: 58,964
- PlayStation 3: 55,924
- Nintendo Wii: 34,456
- PlayStation 2: 9043
- Xbox 360: 5817
When wondering what could have caused this slip we decided to look at the software, and sure enough, therein we found our answer. Sitting there at #2 was
Dynasty Warriors 6 with 188,456 sales, many of which
came bundled with the 40GB PS3.
Super Mario Galaxy, on the other hand, sat in third with only 74,457 sales. (In case you're curious,
Mario Party DS was at the top with 234,708 sales).
We're confident that the Wii will top the PS3 soon enough, but since
Dynasty Warriors 6 just came out on November 11th in Japan, it might not happen next week.
