Today's most hilariously atrocious video: M&M's Kart Racing
Just when you thought XBLA's Yaris was in a league all its own, along comes M&M's Kart Racing on the Wii to reintroduce us to the "horribly derivative racing advergame" genre. The gameplay footage above is a true testament to the wrong way to build a kart racer.
Our favorite part is when the M&M driver -- who's cruising at tortoise speeds -- repeatedly shouts "APPROACHING SOUND BARRIER!" Anyone else?
Update: Well, somebody spoiled our fun and removed the YouTube video we were linking to. Luckily, however, Amazon.com features the same exact footage on the game's page. Check it out here.
[Thanks, Supa. We think.]

Damn that's painful to watch.
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 1:42AM
Entirely agree. I want this game so badly it actually hurts.
samfish @ Nov 17th 2007 3:39AM
I think Ninja Bread Man just got some competition for GotY!
coolforever4537 @ Nov 17th 2007 12:06AM
LMFAO, Are they really saying "OH, A NUT" in the background?! And "APPROACHING SOUND BARRIER" sounds too weird for an M & M Racing game.
Andy Witmyer @ Nov 17th 2007 12:25AM
I thought was saying "LOOK - A NUT!"
That was so bad that I felt the strange urge to watch it a second time.
DarkTetsuya @ Nov 17th 2007 1:09AM
especially one where the karts only go 5MPH...
Poisoned Al @ Nov 17th 2007 6:03AM
I thought it was "Oh, my nut!"
Ally @ Nov 17th 2007 7:10PM
Yea they go at 5MPH so that the kids cant train to be mass murdering drivers, the chocolate coins help curb obeseity too apparently.
comtar @ Nov 18th 2007 9:56PM
I'd just like to state that legally speaking.... if you stationary, and you start walking... you are techniquely approaching the sound barrier... now are you anywhere near it? No.
amx1978 @ Nov 17th 2007 12:15AM
Hey there. Playing it a little fast and loose with the term racing there aren't we?
EMaster @ Nov 17th 2007 12:17AM
This better be a work in F'n Progress cause this game looks and especially sounds worse than those bundles value games that Wal Mart Sells.
Ranko @ Nov 17th 2007 12:17AM
I will never look at M&Ms the same way again.
gonk @ Nov 17th 2007 12:18AM
video is no longer available?
Jacob @ Nov 17th 2007 12:31AM
Sounds like a freaking lawn mower...
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 3:22AM
....THATS APPROACHING THE SOUND BARRIER?!
Brello @ Nov 17th 2007 12:52PM
Ugh, I think they may have actually held a mic up to a lawnmower and looped it...
GaryM @ Nov 17th 2007 12:31AM
"This is the vehicle's top speed!"
"I can get out and run faster than this!"
hvnlysoldr @ Nov 17th 2007 11:25AM
The second best chase in T2.
Matt_M @ Nov 17th 2007 12:35AM
LOOK A NUT
Ken Seang @ Nov 17th 2007 12:37AM
Damn WTF! When looking at this vid and not looking at the description I thought o a n64 game? When I scrolled down I was like Wii? WTF!!!! With all that pop up and horrible sound, I mean damn why they got to use a lawn mower sound bite... And that announcer voice over and over again gets annoying. This and that crusin game looks like n64 titles.
Fuzzmosis @ Nov 17th 2007 12:40AM
Let's be fair, they are in fact approaching the sound barrier.
Just like when I'm walking Westwards, I'm approaching Japan.
Won't get there anytime soon, but they aren't lying to you.
Cal @ Nov 17th 2007 12:56AM
So using that logic...
I would be approaching the Sun when jumping?
CubeGuy @ Nov 17th 2007 3:09AM
Yes.
Clack @ Nov 17th 2007 8:29AM
Be safe. Wear sunscreen when jumping.
Zeus the God @ Nov 17th 2007 2:55PM
Unless its night time, in which case, you would be jumping away from it. Besides, the moon is much more intriguing.
I'll be sure to wear moon screen.
Brello @ Nov 17th 2007 12:43AM
I'm all for budget titles, but good lord, try a little guys. The sound barrier really isn't 15 mph, just so we're clear. What a joke..
engler @ Nov 17th 2007 12:44AM
The guy playing is actually pretty good. Look like he had some practice, which is really sad.
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 2:38AM
The only sad thing about it is the fact that you might face this guy in online play and get left in the chocolaty dust. He surely is a force to be reckon with.
RedJoggingSuit(MSDF-Battle Angel) @ Nov 17th 2007 1:00AM
That looks like the opposite of fun... that might be what they are going for if they are trying to be anything like Yaris.
Mognet T @ Nov 17th 2007 1:06AM
Is it just me, or does it sound like Stephen Colbert is saying, "Look, a nut!" Every five seconds.
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 2:48AM
I'll agree to that statement only if you'd agree that it sounds like Vegeta is saying "APPROACHING SOUND BARRIER!"
Grey Acumen @ Nov 17th 2007 10:01AM
Wait til you see the price of the game though. I hear it's "Over NINE THOUSAAAAAND!!!!!"
Roddie @ Nov 17th 2007 10:37AM
Yeah, it sounds a lot like Tek Jansen.
Tesley @ Nov 17th 2007 1:15AM
AAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhh! me eyes
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 2:33AM
Sounds like someone just got enlightened. Refreshing like a spring breeze, no?
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 1:24AM
Day 1 purchase.
ScottyGEE32 @ Nov 17th 2007 1:26AM
This game better be selling for -2100 MS points that way, by playing this atrocity I get to approach the sound barrier and download psychonaughts on xbox live.
What were they thinking? I dislike M&M's enough, they even over adevertise, so whoever wants them will get them...They then create this for the sole purpose of what? Making people associate pathetic game design and gameplay with M&M's? Cunning business strategy indeed.
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 1:53AM
Well it just sounds like you're biased against M&Ms in general.
B1u3 D3m0n @ Nov 17th 2007 9:57AM
I utterly agree,
It's bad enough that the Mars corporation attepmts to "personify" their candy, which makes it all the LESS appealing to me, but did they really have to go and whore themselves out in a sad, futile attempt to appeal to the gamer audience? I never thought I'd say this, but that game looks so bad that if I was ever forced to play it, it might make me never want to play another game again. EVER.
Clack @ Nov 17th 2007 8:31AM
"Well it just sounds like you're biased against M&Ms in general."
Biased against an ethnic group? We call that racism.
Ichigo Style @ Nov 17th 2007 8:36AM
Well I guess you're out of luck :( Because it's comming out for the Wii.
Unless you want to figure out how to get Microsoft Points to work on your Wii.
Grant @ Nov 17th 2007 2:10PM
"it's bad enough that the Mars corporation attepmts to "personify" their candy, which makes it all the LESS appealing to me"
well, you're the minority then, because that marketing campaign is one of the most successful candy mareting campaigns ever.
melloncollie @ Nov 17th 2007 1:27AM
I think a part of me died a little inside...
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 1:32AM
Funny, a part me got reborn a little inside.
Tyler Czerniak @ Nov 17th 2007 1:34AM
Jesus, why do 2/3 of the games on that console have to be shovelware?
DemonGSides @ Nov 17th 2007 1:37AM
This isn't Shovelware, its Shitware.
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 1:41AM
Both wrong. This is awesomeware.
SuperDave @ Nov 17th 2007 1:51AM
It was hard to read but did it say 0/1 laps??
I love that when you're driving it says CHOCOLATE COINS really big right in the center.
As a whole and agreeing with the problems other people listed as well, I'd sum it up in three words: "APPROACHING TOLERANCE BARRIER".
Ren @ Nov 17th 2007 1:58AM
Of course it says 0/1 laps, it's a practice lap. I love chocolate coins too.
shMerker @ Nov 23rd 2007 3:28AM
"I love that when you're driving it says CHOCOLATE COINS really big right in the center."
I don't think your at any risk of crashing because of that.
