Weekly Webcomic Wrapup celebrates Dueling Analogs' 2nd birthday
Congratulations to Steve Napierski's Dueling Analogs, who turns two years old tomorrow. Interesting note: according to Wikipedia, DA has won the webcomic wrapup seven times since May 2006. More interesting note: someone actually went through our archives and counted.
Head over to Dueling Analogs and sift through their archives, then come back and tell us your favorites. (Our picks, for obvious reasons: So Dark the Contra of Man, PSP Philosophy.) And when you do return, would you kindly pick your favorite game-related webcomic in our poll below?

2P Start is still the funniest and most original, me thinks.
ShortFuse @ Nov 17th 2007 4:15PM
I think this week's best webcomic was...
"Oh Jade! Your game feels so good! Uguu!"
even if you'll get a Cease and Desist letter from Ubisoft for it.
ColossalHat @ Nov 17th 2007 4:16PM
Wow, VGcats was heinous.
I voted for it of course.
Joe @ Nov 17th 2007 4:17PM
I voted Digital Unrest, only one I smirked at.
However, VG Cats was all right and Control Alt Delete didn't stuff a book's worth of text in four panels.
Oh god, apocalypse?
Ranko @ Nov 17th 2007 4:25PM
Extra Life made me laugh out loud.
DCBlack @ Nov 18th 2007 12:08AM
Agreed. That gets my vote.
Dio @ Nov 17th 2007 4:28PM
That's not funny. Not funny at all.
Fatass of Kickassness @ Nov 17th 2007 8:17PM
That's Dueling Analogs for you.
David @ Nov 17th 2007 4:41PM
Action Trip. Most definitely.
angryguy77 @ Nov 17th 2007 4:55PM
I love how its ok to blasphemy and make fun of anything christian, but send out the dogs if any other religion gets a jab. I am really disgusted by this, in fact I just might never visit joystiq again. I may not be a super christian, but this kind of stuff really agitates me. Who are you joystiq to post such a an offensive joke. I am not pc by far and can take pretty much anything, but I believe this is too far.
Undead Priest @ Nov 17th 2007 5:17PM
So it's the artist's fault that Jesus fell in love with a whore?
On topic, VGCats. Finally, one that's actually funny.
thethirdmoose @ Nov 17th 2007 5:49PM
Get a life and learn to take a joke
ColossalHat @ Nov 17th 2007 5:51PM
"Who are you joystiq to post such a an offensive joke?"
They're a tongue-in-cheek video game news website. Thusly, they should attempt to make people laugh, and if people are offended, well, those people should probably go into the real world and experience the worst kinds of bigots, then come back and see whether a joke was worth getting offended over.
Robotochan @ Nov 17th 2007 5:52PM
I don't see why religeous people get so wound up about jokes about their religeon. To many people the idea of a god is ludicrous and obviously I'd expect people to make fun of what I believed in if I believed in Xanu or a tea kettle of almighty power. You should ignore these jokes if you care that much about them. I ignore all the idiots who believe I'm immoral because I'm an Athiest, I think that's a little more hurting than someone animating Jesus making a save from a penalty :P
Rususeruru @ Nov 17th 2007 6:01PM
Allow me to start by saying:
Jesus is F'ing Metal.
That being said, this is a mockery of art. Also known as parody. People often confuse the two. Separate for a moment, if you will, the works of Michelangelo, (Leonardo) da Vinci, Donatello, and Raphael (artists not turtles) from the church. What they created were tools designed to inspire and increase interest in the faith not be worshiped as the faith itself. Pietà is not the Virgin Mary holding Jesus, it's Michelangelo's interpretation of emotion and story. So don't get your knickers in a knot. Be the better person, accept this for what it is even if you don't like it. If you decide not to visit Joystiq anymore that's fine, a few less hits and less revenue. That's YOUR choice, but don't yell at them for double the standards that are being perpetuated by a conflict of cultures, histories, and religions. The west has a long tradition of liberties, Joystiq is primarily catering to a western audience. It stands to reason that they would post something that can be protected by freedom of speech/expression. But please do not confuse art and religion. The Sistine Chapel is a holy location that wouldn't mean art in it is holy. The same can be said for the Last Supper Mural. It was commissioned by a family it is an artists interpretation of the last supper and was created for profit, by itself it is not holy. It may represent that to you but it's just a representation and besides the comic is more a satire of the times clearly it's poking more fun at the Da Vinci Code's popularity than anything else.
DangerMouse @ Nov 17th 2007 7:49PM
So angryguy isn't just a clever name, eh?
Fatass of Kickassness @ Nov 17th 2007 8:00PM
I think you should be more offended over the fact that it was a terrible fucking joke in the first place, and the only way that DA could justify putting it on the site was tacking Mario in somewhere in the comic.
A Pissed-off English Gamer @ Nov 18th 2007 9:45AM
Yeah, i thought you were going somewhere semi-agreeable with that rant, the whole "we should make fun of things equally" stance. However, it turns out that you just suck and want us to not parody things at all. Religion is sertious business.
Grant @ Nov 18th 2007 8:18PM
alright.
well, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
fwacce @ Nov 17th 2007 4:56PM
Some people like to be reminded of how when they were young, they went to the store and bought something that they had been waiting for. To keep something as new as it was on the shelf, is something special to some people. It's really all about memories, not including the investors.
The more important question is why do you care? What difference does it make if someone wants to keep something sealed or open it and play it? How is your life going to change if someone leaves the cellophane on a game? And why would you go out and find a forum on the internet and come back here to post and complain about it, when it doesn't affect you? To me, it's always been more about someone's own ego as to why you would insist on telling other people what to do with their stuff.
Live and let live.
riddle.of.epicurus @ Nov 17th 2007 4:58PM
This week needs a "none of the above" option.
DangerMouse @ Nov 17th 2007 7:52PM
Every week needs it. Except that this week i actually laughed at one, so ignore my last statement for this week. Thanks.
Robotochan @ Nov 17th 2007 5:09PM
I loved the VG Cats comic, although there were quite a few that made me laugh. I can't get onto Digital Unrest or Dueling Analogs at the moment unfortunately :(
Your Ad here 555-1923 @ Nov 18th 2007 12:52PM
NEDM!
steve Johnson @ Nov 17th 2007 5:20PM
Go to hell Joystiq! How would you like it if someone mocked something sacred to you? Oh wait....that's right...there IS nothing sacred to you. You just lost a listener for good. You'll also notice one less listener to your podcast too, which was boring as well. Good riddance!
Hell, I was sick of your M$ biased anyway.
Neebs @ Nov 17th 2007 5:26PM
SERIOUS FUCKING BUSINESS.
Robotochan @ Nov 17th 2007 5:32PM
Cya, Mr Johnson...
Rususeruru @ Nov 17th 2007 6:05PM
You sir are WRONG! The Zero Punctuation reviews are holy to Joystiq, LONG LIVE YAHTZEE!
for a serious reply read my separation of art and divinity on the previous outcry.
Clack @ Nov 17th 2007 6:20PM
Yahtzee and Jesus should both be in Smash Brothers Brawl.
Rususeruru @ Nov 17th 2007 6:21PM
Clack wins.
Fatass of Kickassness @ Nov 17th 2007 8:02PM
Interesting that a Christian would say something as crass and against their own set of morals as 'Go to hell'...
Rubang B (BRUSH WITH FAME) @ Nov 18th 2007 4:33PM
The only thing sacred to me is Miyamoto. People attack him every day, and I don't flip out about how sacred he is or how I have several shrines to him or how I sacrifice virgins to his immaculate level design or tell them to respect my religion or ask them how they'd like it if I insulted whatever they love. I just say "Hey man fuck you, he's pretty dope" and everything works out.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Nov 19th 2007 9:45AM
Yes, religion is "serious fucking business".
But I also recognize this as a joke in bad taste, but its mostly parodying the Da Vinci Code, which was sac religious.
gonk @ Nov 17th 2007 5:21PM
the mass effect one
Martez @ Nov 17th 2007 5:25PM
What's up with all the Wii-related comics not showing the remote in the condom? I don't think it's setting a very good example for the young ones.
Don't be an ass, kids. Wrap your Wii remote.
Neebs @ Nov 17th 2007 5:26PM
Slim pickings this week, but VGCats it is.
Mr Khan @ Nov 17th 2007 5:32PM
I think it's the first time i've ever voted for Action Trip, but they did a good job
I didn't "get" VGCats, and i felt 2PStart's attempt to flesh out their last story was kind of weak (which is odd, because the first comic was inspired). Penny Arcade was good again, and Extra life was my 2nd choice after AT
Slaziman @ Nov 17th 2007 5:52PM
Have you played Portal? Else there is nothing to "get"
Mr Khan @ Nov 18th 2007 10:59AM
alas, no, i can do no more but admire that game from afar
no 360 or PS3, and my PC just isn't cut out for games (even games where it meets the recommended requirements, they just wind up being buggy, slow, and inexplicably freezing at random intervals)
angryguy77 @ Nov 17th 2007 5:33PM
hey undead, where was that ever proven. I think this is sick. What would happen if they showed a Koran in the toilet? Or have made the same inference about allah? I'm not saying that everyone has to be a believer, but they sure as heck could respect that for many, Christ holds a deep and meaningful place in the lives of many of their readers. I believe that God has a sense of humor, and I can also take the religious joke. But this is not a joke, its an in your face mocking of God and Christianity. As I said before, I am not one of the pc police, I defend joystiqs right to do whatever they want. But in posting this, they have told all their christian readers that they do not respect them or their beliefs. And for that reason, joystiq will be taken off of my favorites list, that is unless they post an apology.
AirIntake @ Nov 17th 2007 5:45PM
I'd rather that they didn't apologize and that you didn't come back. One right that people forget that they don't have, is the right not to be offended. I'm offended every day by things, but the only person who's problem it is is MINE. Hell, I'm offended at your insulting posts to Joystiq, and unless you apologize, I won't be reading your posts. Hmmmpff!
ColossalHat @ Nov 17th 2007 5:45PM
You know what? I can't think of anything to say that would make sense to you...
Hell, I'll go ahead and try. Once upon a time Carlos Mencia did a show in front of a bunch of handicapped people and didn't want to tell any jokes about that demographic. However, they called for the jokes during the show themselves. What he ended up saying is, "If you can't tell a joke about a kind of people to their face, it's obviously not funny." Now here I am, a Roman Catholic, reading your absurd reasoning and saying, "Hey, that's a pretty funny comic panel."
I'll have to assume you never read/saw the Da Vinci Code or you'd at least have some sense of humor in this vein. But hell, I have never understood people that get offended by jokes so whatever. Have fun if you're not coming back, if you do come back, practice the old teaching "Turn the other cheek."
Mr Khan @ Nov 17th 2007 5:54PM
We're from the generation (or at least i am) that's not supposed to be offended by anything
Personally, i don't like the joke, but that's more because it just isn't funny to me
But, in this world, you have to be prepared to have your beliefs ridiculed, whether it be faith, politics, whatever. I can understand that you are offended, certainly, but assuming Joystiq to be under some kind of moral responsibility to please everyone certainly isn't true (otherwise the recent posts about the PS3 would've been a lot more neutral in tone)
Slaziman @ Nov 17th 2007 5:56PM
Cry moar retard, I wish people would stop being so goddamn sensitive. Bye bye, one less whiner on Joystiq.
Ed @ Nov 17th 2007 7:51PM
Also, I would like to add that Allah and God are the same person.
Fatass of Kickassness @ Nov 17th 2007 8:06PM
I'm a Sunni muslim and I wouldn't have been offended by either of those examples.
Wouldn't stop me from viewing it as a lame joke, but in all honesty someone else's political or religious ignorance means nothing to me unless it directly effects me.
Dio @ Nov 17th 2007 9:41PM
Even though Joystiq is responsible for its writers, I don't think you should leave just because Ross Miller has a different taste in humor than you. So just let it go, come back and read what the other writers have to say if you can't stand him.
Seriously, do you typically ignore someone for making or acknowlegding several a few bad jokes here and there? I still think his content has value even though I may not agree with him or other writers on some things.
Dio @ Nov 17th 2007 9:42PM
-several(I was hoping the strike tags would work on it)
Shmil @ Nov 17th 2007 9:54PM
i hate to do this but after looking at your profile
"Rumorong: Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4 demos on RE: Extinction Blu-ray disc
Joystiq
Nov 16th 2007 4:24PM Call Al Sharpton and Rev. Jackson....PC fighting force form and detroy free speech!!!!!!"
you appear to have taken the hypocritic oath
so just because you're offended joystiq should post an apology? i guess mel brooks should apologize for every jew joke he's ever told and all of his movies should be banned
Sesur @ Nov 17th 2007 6:03PM
vgcats just for being evil. I laughed my ass off.
