You're fucking retarded... and Call of Duty 4 owns halo 3. I have both and i would rather play the same old tired maps on call of duty 4 than the same old BR,Team D Match on halo 3. COD 4 is just an overall better game, i like the halo concept, but it just doesn't do it when you are serious about cutting your opponents down. I think these maps should be available as single files, only then would it be ok to charge 3.33 per map. As a pack it should be no more than 5 dollars since it's not written on a cd or other media, IT'S A DOWNLOAD, C'MON!
Also, call of duty 4's maps are way more thought out and detailed as to where and how you play, halo's seem too spaced out and just too much open ground, there is no real place to have a good firefight, sniping on every level doesn't make for the best experience.

When will they learn - making map packs that you have to pay for ruins online games, because it separates people from being able to play with each other. Half of the people who currently play online will not buy these maps.

The same thing happens when you release an expansion for an RTS (or FPS, for that matter). It ruined UT2004 online. It ruined Gears for months. It stands to ruin (or at least, severely damage), this one.

Quite. Even when they are free, as with PC games, most they found a lot of people couldn't be arsed to download new maps unless it happened automatically. This is even worse charging for maps we should have had in the first place.

Meh.

I'll dl them when they're free to play.

And seriously chill people. No one's forcing you to buy this and there will still be enough people playing the old maps.

For those griping about this being a rip-off or ruining the online experience, I'll give you the perfunctory "Fuck off,you don't have to pay for it."

If you don't buy it, you'll still have tens of thousands of players to play the old maps with. Just wait a few months and you can join the rest of us for free.

Yet another reason FPS's are meant for the PC. My old Counter-Strike server had well over 1,000 custom maps on it. Every classic CS map was created by fans and distributed for free. A flat $9.99 gets you every weapon/skin/model/map ever created, and that WILL ever be created, and there's no monthly charge.

People who pay $10 for three maps, then pay a monthly charge to play the game, are total and complete tools.

Do I think these maps are a little expensive...yes. But with next gen does it take longer to make and perfect....yes. So the price is most likely fair. Considering the internet will most likely melt from everyone downloading these. However at least they will become free after a while unlike some developers who never do make them free.

Personally it's all about quality. Someone can churn out dozen of maps but if they are all crap who would want them even if they are free.

I would rather have 3 stellar top not high quality maps then 10 so so average maps. I do not know the resources that have gone into the maps, how much time and if it was done on the clock but 10 bucks is not that expensive if these are classic maps.

3 maps are small for 10 bucks, I would have preferred 5 but I would not get a wedgie if these maps are fun.

In response to everyone who thinks Xbox live is a tool and that MS is greedy and PC is better. What OS are you running. See MS is everywhere. You may have paid less for he game but in reality it's going to cost more for a PC and windows alone cost way to much money. Unless you use linux your still a tool to MS. And if you own a Mac....well you got even more ripped off.

@dan. It's true. All these people come on here bashing MS for everything they do and don't realize they are posting from a windows PC. Maybe instead of complain about everything MS does they should think about how much of an ass they are making out of themselves. BTW...sorry for my rant...but it gets annoying. Well all know the drill, if you don't like the price then don't buy it. And Major Nelson has been pretty clear in saying that when people complain about prices the item usually sells pretty well, so the developer has no reason to change.

@Mike:
Yes food and gas are necessities, that was my point. These maps aren't necessities yet they cost the same (non-necessities usually are priced MORE than necessities). That's why i didn't think it was insane. Also, these maps do have a high reply value - compared to necessities which you need to replace. AND they aren't required to play... AND they'll be free in time...

@Vidikron:
Nope, never implied they rewrote anything. I'm not expecting anything like that, or else I would expect a higher price.

@mike:
I was taking into account the $1 menu at McD's and BK. :-)

I'm not denying Bungie isn't going to make $$$ off this. All i'm saying is that $10 isn't insane. $5 would be better, but $10 isn't bad in a world where one racetrack in F2 sells for the same amount. Or when people already spent hundreds of dollars on an xbox and the game already.

But hey, wait and it'll be free anyway. So chill.

Complaining over $10? If you really do not want to spend $10 on three maps you will enjoy over, and over, and over again. Then go to a freeway offramp and panhandle for 30 minutes, you will get your $10. Also assuming most of you doing the complaining live at home and dont have access to a real job or do not have a credit card ask mommy and daddy for the $10 after you agree to clean your bedroom for the first time in 3 months.

Aslo Halo3 does not belong on a PC, you know why? I don't get to play against hackers. I'd rather play with snotty nosed, expletive ridden kids, than getting my head blown off 6 times in a row after 3 seconds of respawning. Having to pay for extra maps is an insignificant inconvenience compared to finding the right software that makes playing against hackers on the PC.

I can understand that $10 is a bit on the pricey end, but so far we don't know anything more about how Bungie is going to implement these maps into matchmaking. Wait till next week, we'll have more info, and then we'll all have a better idea of what's going on. If anything I think this announcement was supposed to be seen as the 'teaser trailer' and nothing more.

And also - it seems that for the past month people on the forums have been screaming for more maps. Now that we're going to get some finally everyone's still screaming. I love it. Let's just chill out!

Too many games coming out, and I've bought too many already.

Sorry, but this won't be seeing any of my cash. I need to still buy Mass Effect, WH40k Squad Command, Mario Galaxy, and a billion other games on my backlog.

I would assume most other 360 owners are also in the same boat. With Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Orange Box, and countless other "must own" titles, this wont leave much room for buying anything off Live, no matter how "cheap" or "expensive" it might be.

that's fleecing, no question. DO NOT BUY. if you do, you're just giving MS reason to continue charging more for less.

i love halo 3 and want those maps as much as the next guy but i'm not stupid enough to pay whatever the hell MS thinks they can charge me.

These better be some revolutionary maps if they're charging 800 points for it. That, or standoff better have Brute Chopper as a default vehicle in matchmaking.

Who am I kidding...I just got done redeeming 4,000 points, and with 1600 more points left that I'm not sure how to use, I might as well just save some for these maps. No skin off my bones.

Wow you guys are the biggest whiners I have ever seen. Seriously who complains about $10 or even $100 anymore. You guys need to realize that things do go up in price and you are the idots for bitching about something that you control. Don't buy the fucking games if you don't want them. Your opinion is the minority which will be proven when these maps release and hundreds of thousands of people buy them. Count me in, Bungie. I've already got 5-6 times the gameplay and enjoyment out of your game then I did with any other 360 game so in my opinion this is a steal. I almost wish they didn't ever give them free so I would never have to play with all these idiot teenagers or some loser adults that can't afford $10 without bitching about it.

seems to me like you're the only bitch. People who are wise(not greedy) with their money think twice before putting out money for something soo simple as a map pack. Like someone else stated, we bought the console, we bought the game, we pay 7.99 per month to play on xbox live; 10.00 more for a simple add-on that adds nothing more than just a couple maps to run around in is not that great of an investment, it does not add a whole other level of gameplay or immersion to the game. If they wanna charge for something, how about put out a 10 map pack with new weapons and more possibilities to modify your character and icons.(change the appearance of spartan,elite, and lobby icons)

None of this is offered and probably never will be since they know that every time they put out a few new maps, people will lay down money for the scraps they give us. It's stupid people like "Nathan" who ruin it for the concious, non-fanatics of games,sports,everyday life everywhere.

You are truely a tool and can't even begin to understand how stupid you are by bending over whenever Bungie or w/e company you're a fanboy of tells you they're lubbed up and ready to go...

This will only make game developers hold on to good content meant to be included in the game originall and sell it on xbl for whatever price they please. This will overall affect the quality of games and will just turn xbl and video games in general into just another money making scheme. BOTH YOU AND I LOSE.

A lot of you guys are so stupid that you can't comprehend that if you don't want to pay - just wait, it will be free (unlike some other games' DLC). Thats what I am doing.

There is no pleasing gamers these days - its very sad. Especially when companies are more flexible these days than 10+ years ago. Anyone remember the kind of crap they pulled back then?

The only thing I'm going to point out is this, and it's probably off topic but wtf why not right? Halo's all time map was Hang Em High, Halo 2 had Lockout as it's obvious favorite (at least for wana be pro's)But what does Halo 3 have? Not one of the maps really pop out at me as the most fun or most superior. Narrows has that stand off feel to it, guardian tries to be lockout but it lacks the key strategies that were often found in halo 2. So I'm kind of looking forward to new maps and i am willing to pay for them. Hopefully one of these maps will turn out to be that great one. That way if microsoft manages to make a halo 4 or something, people can whine and bitch and moan that they should re make THAT map. Admit when Hang em High finally got re done it just...wasn't the same. Let each game have their map and move on. If u want lockout go play halo 2 and if u want it free all the time wait for PC version. Enjoy the game or don't. Stop purshing opinions on each other.
