Not for nothing, but I used to work at Best Buy and delivery mishaps are never the fault of the actual store management but usually a mistake in logistics shipping as they don't manually schedule trucks, it's all done automatically. I don't see what the big deal is...yes, I'm not a fan of the game, but if it was Halo 3, I'd find a way to suck it up and not even care. Anyway, the fact he gave you a $50 gift card is really nice of them as they are not obligated to do that. If anything, I think they remidiated the issue better than most other stores would if they were put in the same circumstance.

Man, why didn't they just tell you guys earlier that they didn't have any? There is no reason for them to NOT disclose that information (how many 360 bundles there are) if they are disclosing the EIGHT PS3 bundles they had. The gift card was a nice way of fixing things, I'm surprised they even gave that much (or let alone anything). Good job BB for fixing a problem before it exploded...

My brother checked 4 walmarts in his area in Rural Illinois with all of them having only PS3 versions. That was until about 15min until midnight that they got word that another walmart nearby had 4 360 units. What's the deal with the 360 shortage?

Makes no difference, got mine through work today.

rob paek,

Most likely the store manager was trying to work out a solution to their lack of rock band w/ his district manager (or at least someone higher up than himself). They wouldn't admit to not having any until they knew what (if anything) they'd be doing for their customers.

good story ... though i've given up on midnight launches since the Halo 3 debacle of letting non-preorderers get the game before pre-orderers.

since you are your friend are splitting it, I assume you're also picking up a 2nd game-only copy?

@Mike: I'm sad to say that I got no compensation from Best Buy for telling you guys my story. I doubt they really care all that much about one blogger's opinion in the ocean that is the internets. I just thought it to be a worthy story to tell.

@iLuvUrOpinion: I like long stories.

@Mike a second time: Drums, guitar and vocals. I'm a multi-talented rockstar. And a picture, well ... we'll see about that.

Same issue went down in Greenwood, Indiana and I've heard the same at a few other stores. I had a problem with my preorder at GameStop (they only had me down for the disk not the whole kit) so I was off to the local Walmart.

The Walmart I went to had ONE unit and it was for the PS3. NO 360 units at all. The people in front of me wanted the 360 version but since Walmart didn't have it they purchased the PS3 version as well as a PS3 to play it on. They said they couldn't wait.

I ran off calling the Gamestop back and they were feeling bad and sold me one of the remaining few units they had. I was fearful they would screw over someone else but another Gamestop close by had an extra unit that was from a canceled preorder. They were going to get that unit to replace the one they sold me.

So it looks like a LOT of things went very wrong for a lot of people.

I played the game a bit this morning and really enjoyed the little bit I got to play. Can't wait to dig in tonight.

I was at the Eden Prairie Best Buy and filled out the raincheck form, but it seemed like people were still hanging out that had already filled it out as well. Did I need to stick around for something else or did I just need to fill out the form? I got in my car and headed over to Walmart in Shakopee where they had about 20 of them for the 360.

They probably shipped via UPS... I'm still waiting for them to deliver my "repaired" RRoD 360. It went from Texas all the way up to Minnesota, then mysteriously vanished and re-appeared in Texas, and is making its way back up to Minnesota. Stupid UPS didn't even compensate by putting it on a plane for me when it vanished - nope -- still ground. I hate UPS...

I went to Target this morning a little after they opened at 8 AM. I got one of the last couple Rock Band's for the 360, but they still had 5 or 6 for the PS3, maybe more. The electronics guy said there was a line outside when they came in to open and he couldn't figure out what it was for (he only has a Wii) until the made a bee line for his department.

went to Westbury, NY BB last night. 200+ copies for X360 and only 16 PS3. no problems, about 150 people on line.

went this morning to local BB. got there around 9:30 - no one on line. thought that was strange, thought maybe i missed them opening at 9am. nope 10a - first on line.

walked in, asked the manager if it was 1 per customer, he said yes. grabbed one, paid, put it in my car. walked back in, repeat. there were about 10-15 other guys grabbing RB this morning. my BB mole said all NYC area BB got at least 90 copies.

Realist's translation of this story:

"Since I'm REALLY impatient, I went to the store and asked some girl trying to do her job how many copies of the game would be arriving. She said she didn't know, so I asked her again. She said she wasn't sure, so I pressed her for more information. She finally cracked because she was sick of me, and perhaps a little afraid of the obsessive gamer thing, and told me they were on a truck and she didn't have an exact number.

Being a total dork, I HAD to get Rock Band the SECOND it was available, thus I decided to freeze my ass off and wait outside a Best Buy with a bunch of other hardcore, impatient idiots. I brought lawn chairs and blankets, and basically made a spectacle of myself as one of the people who couldn't wait like any normal person would. EVERY SECOND OF ROCK BAND COUNTS, dammit.

However, I'm SUPER impatient, and so I decided to bug the Best Buy employees (who probably had been bothered by others in line and on the phone all night) about the stock numbers, and they blew me off. Maybe it's because I looked like a frozen, crazed gamer that might snap at any second. Maybe it's because they just didn't know, and didn't expect a line of crazed gamers to wait outside in the cold all night for a video game. Either way, he was very evasive and gave me funny looks and said he didn't know how many they were getting. THE NERVE OF HIM not caring about what I care about! I got snippy, and a manager got involved to calm me down and get me to go back outside with the other crazies.

And damn her, she made me think my choice to wait outside in the cold was a good one with her misleading lack of information. IT'S ALL HER FAULT I waited in the cold!

So later, they told us they only had eight PS3 bundles available, and that the XBox 360 bundle was not available. HOW DARE THEY NOT EXPECT FIFTY MORONS TO LINE UP OUTSIDE THEIR STORE ALL NIGHT?!?!

So we got loud, violent, and obnoxious, and the manager- in an effort to keep himself from being ripped apart by frozen maniacs- offered us a bribe to let him live. Oh, I had to sit in the cold until Midnight, but it was SO worth it!

Next week, I'm going to sit outside KMart and scare the employees there into giving me a free toaster.

Seriously guys: We need to stop doing this "wait in line all night" bull whenever a new game or console comes out. It makes gamers look like fricking crazy idiots. It's the kind of thing that fuels the perception of gamers that Jack Thompson is trying to pass off to the general public: We're obsessive, impatient, and quick to anger when we don't get our way. People think gamers are a bunch of twitchy kids for a reason.

STOP DOING THIS. Stop waiting in lines all night. Stop dressing up as your favorite videogame character. Stop taking it personally when a shipment doesn't make it to the store on time. Stop expecting that everybody else knows what the hell you're waiting for.

I'm sure this is a generational thing. You guys have the patience of a spastic 2-year-old. The game will be available. Just shut up and wait for it. You don't get extra points for playing it 8 hours before everyone else.

You know what I like best about Keyth's little rants?

The fact that standing outside for a launch of a new product must be a 'generational' thing.

I'm mean, I'm trying to think back to my retail days of about 10 years ago, and for the life of me I don't recall scores of 10 - 15 year olds just running around like mad at the local Walmart at Midnight on Thanksgiving with not one adult in sight.

So yeah, it's just gamers and young people...people in their 30's - 60's NEVER do this stuff...ever.

But for the record, the whole bit on standing outside a KMart to score a free toaster...yeah that made me laugh. That was pretty funny.
