Sweet, the matchmaking thing was the only thing that was making me think twice about these maps, now I'm def gonna buy them. Oh and not sure if they posted this but these maps will be free summer 08, when the next map pack gets released

Yay! One of the reasons I never played GOW after a while was every game i tried to get into would say i didn't have the maps for, and i didn't want to buy the damn map pack.

I love Halo3 more but I still would rather wait till its free in the spring.

Well, props to Bungie for making both the purchasers and non-purchasers happy. This was the best solution.

I still think 800 points is kind of steep for 3 maps. They couldn't have been included on the disc at launch? This sounds like something EA would do.

Well, that doesn't matter for me, as I'm purchasing the DLC anyway. Good thinking on Bungie's part for those who don't want to shell out.

So basically - people who don't have the DLC are gonna get penalised? We are gonna have longer wait times searching for players? Nice...

I guess I'm glad now I bought the plain $60 halo instead of one of the special editions. The money I saved now is going to go towards the maps.

@fLUx:
Did you read the update? The way it's going to be done is the same as before - people get matched up, but when it comes time to select a map (along with the gametype) it will check to see if everyone has the new maps. If not, then it switches to the standard ones. Those who don't have the new maps aren't hurt in anyway. In fact, those who are the first to have the new maps will probably notice that they won't appear in matchmaking until more people get them - hence the dedicated DLC playlist.

I am just opposed to the decontenting of games to add on stuff later. These maps should have included, and were apparently mostly done before the release. The one thing I detest about Xbox is the constant upgrading of games, Lumines Live being the worst example.

games are alot cheaper for the amount of entertainment you get for the money... try to spend all day at the movie theatre or Disney World ... I dont mind spending 3 dollars to play with more variety... the question is ... is the new playlist ranked.

@ akatsuki, I agree to a point with you. I think as long as Microsoft sets a standard for games at launch. ie Multiplayer has to have an X number of maps at launch. That way people won't feel like they are paying extra for something that should of been in the original game. As far as Halo is concerned, Bungie gave us 11 maps at launch along with a map editor and the ability to download other peoples map variation's. I for one feel as if it was worth my $60.

This kind of pisses me off more than the alternative. Basically the new maps are never going to come up. For a team slayer it would just take 1 of 8 people to not have the pack for it to not come up. For a big team battle, forget it, don't ever expect to see them.

800 points is very reasonable. Look at what things like 3 songs have cost on GH2. These aren't just the same old crap rehashed into 3 new maps. These are maps that have to be designed, textured, playtested, revamped, playtested again, worked over for the various gametypes, tested some more. As far as people saying they should have been on the disc, and that this is an EA move, you all are just being idiots. The game has been out for MONTHS. 800 is a perfect price point. Didn't any of you dorks ever play BF2? EA/DICE charging $20 for a few maps anyone? These are a steal, and they look to be pretty cool.

Yeah, this kinda sucks because if one person out of 10 in a Social Slayer match doesn't have the new Maps, you'll never get to play them.

I remember in Gears of War, for example, when the Hidden Fronts pack came out there was always people getting booted out when a new map came up. My point is that with all the people playing online, I feel the chances that you'll be matched up with player that all have the new maps is slim.

@TextRob, @Matt:

Read again. There's a dedicated DLC playlist, so if you WANT to play the new maps with you others you can with no problems.

Yes, but you won't be able to pick what gametype is being played (at least not from the description), so it'll likely be mixed gametype, which is something I personally rarely play (slayer only personally). This doesn't mean I'm unhappy, as I'm glad Bungie chose this route. I'm simply stating that TextRob and Matt do have a point.
