I'm surprised it took this long. Sega always wants to keep the spotlight on Sonic, and that's their downfall.

No it's not Don Karnage, of Tailspin fame. It's clearly Super Mario.

This is lame and a missed opportunity. This should of been on Wii before the new one came out. Im sure this will hit the Wii aswell eventually, but why bother with the PS2?

The PS2 is still strong. Even in console/software sales it still competes. No reason to abandon such a huge install base. Plus, I have a PS2, I do not :yet: own a Wii, so I'm happy!

I never had the privilege of a Saturn when I was a kid. Notice how it says in Japan next year though. I wonder if us North Americans will get screwed once again...

Wonder how long until Saturn gets supported in the Virtual Console and it's avaliable for download? Either way, it's about time this got ported.

Its probably just a matter of time. If the Wii can pull off N64 emulation, it should be able to handle the hardware that was in the Saturn.

It would also handle the Playstation 1 with ease, but of course that won't be happening anytime soon.

Well according to interviews with developers who worked on the Saturn, unless the game was originally designed for porting they're ridiculously hard to do on any other system because of the multiple processors. So I wouldn't guarantee Saturn emulation on the Virtual Console anytime soon, at least in a major way. I am curious about how they pulled off this NiGHTS on PS2 game, though.

What you're talking about dopplebopper is porting the game. VC releases aren't ports, they're emulated. That means the original code is unaltered, they're just wrapped in code that mimics the original hardware.

If they can get panzer dragoon on gametap, they can get it on the wii.

@ ssuk, but the N64's architecture (compared at least to the Saturn's) was relatively simple

Saturn's was a clusterfuck, hard to port, harder to emulate

@ Dopple Boppler, either there's a full-scale, reliable (!) Saturn emulator included on that disc, or they decompiled the NiGHTS code and reworked it for PS2 (probably this, since they speak of certain little improvements) to get it to port properly

Why not get a used Saturn and a copy of NiGHTS on ebay? The Saturn is the only vintage console I have kept around for an extended period of time. Why? Panzer Dragoon Zwei, NiGHTS, and Baku Baku.

Now... WILL SOMEONE... PLEASE... PORT BAKU BAKU TO DS???

Virtual Console? Never.
Aynway, this made my day. Quit whining, Wii fanboys (and yes, I've owned a Wii for about a year, but I also purchased a Saturn solely for this game).

I'm still waiting for a port of Scud Race and Daytona 2 on the console of your choice, Sega. I know the tracks are in Outrun 2 on Xbox, but it's not the same.

And Baku Baku on Saturn is one of the best puzzle game ever.

Ok, big Wii fan here but I have a question. They are updating the graphics and making it 16:9. Besides the fact that the Wii version is a new version and not a remake of the original, what is the big difference between the PS2 and the Wii version? I ask this because the Wii version makes little to no use of the Wiimote so doesn't this PS2 version almost make the Wii version seem less important and unique and most importantly special? It's basically similar games but one is a remake and one is new but since not a lot of people ever played the original, both really are new to the mainstream.

Wii Version:

-Has more than 7 levels
-Has multiplayer other than 1v1 fight
-Has online data and online modes
-Features new story, characters, etc
-Has multiple control schemes
-Has Dream Garden similar to Chao Garden
-Better graphics/effects

That being said it would take a lot to top the original NiGHTS.

Sadly due to Saturn's architecture, the odds that there will be SAT VC support is low. Hell, even modern computers with dual cores can barely run Saturn emulators.

The Saturn version of NiGHTS had a widescreen mode too. Saturn had better horizontal resolution than PS1, that's why some games like Panzer Dragoon 2 have a widescreen mode.

So why isn't this an extra in Journey of Dreams? As a matter of fact why isn't Journey of Dreams also on PS2? It's not like the game has good graphics or anything.

Just like porting HoTD 3 X-Box to Wii, unlocking the hidden the HoTD 2 and calling that a new product. Thanks Sega for putting the minimum ammount of effort into your games and declaring BOHICA to your fans.

You make GameFly worth it.

I don't know which screens you were looking at, but NiGHTS 2 is definitely up there for Wii graphics, which is certainly more than the PS2 could pull off (although the PS2 was capable of some surprises, like in Shadow of the Colossus)

Plus, there are 2 control schemes for NiGHTS 2, the analogue and the Motion (actually IR) controlled

SLIGHTLY improved graphics? That'd be fine if this game had been developed/resealed on the DreamCast, but a Saturn game should get a pretty solid overhaul before being released unto angry gamers with HDTVs...

1. PS2 does not output HD
2. This game and all Saturn games are some of the hardest to port ever, due to Saturn's multiple processors, so really we are lucky as hell to get any Saturn ports.

1. The PS3/X360 output in HD
2. Both the PS3/X360 have multiple processors or cores

Seems like porting it to one of them would make more sense. Of course, SEGA's probably just looking for the quick cash in and the PS2 (or Wii if I was making the choice) seems like a nice safe bet.

Nobody would buy NiGHTS on PS3/360, considering how limited it is compared to what these consoles can do, but maybe as a DLC.

I already have the Saturn original, so there isn't a lot of push for this.

But if it had Christmas NiGHTS as a part of it, I think that would force me to get it.
