yeah but it was down 1 day and on top of that it was only down for ranked matches. The entire day it was down I had no probs opening a full 18 player match room...we just didn't receive experience points for the matches.

how long will we have to wait for a PS3 2.02 firmware patch to fix this issue?

Not a problem of the firmware update. Just a simple maintenance or something of the Infinity Ward gameservers. Everything is again up and running for hours now. People always freak out if somthing like that happens after a System-Upgrade.

A + for you and for being one of the few people not bashing a console or preaching doom. Good show. Hopefully you get a few more +s so people notice and we don't get five pages of "Fony is teh suxxorz" over this.

In before MS fanboys come...

This is pretty normal. If you understand anything about software development, especially something like firmware... If you go to change one thing, you can cock up something else very easily. Sony can't test every game on the market while putting out a firmware update, probably just the games which are affected from the previous bugs. So don't start bashing them for trying to fix bugs. Just report the bug and then wait. Sony should have this fixed within a day or two.

Then everyone can go back to bashing consoles in the normal way.

Can not test all 10 games available for the ps3? That is just lazy.

Just one more reason to not buy a PS3. Sony, STOP MESSING WITH THE BIOS. Developers design their games to work on the hardware the way it is now. As long as Sony keeps changing the console of course there are going to be ongoing problems like this. If I was a PS3 owner my concern would be whether Sony is going to care enough to resolve BIOS compatibility issues with games once they're more than a year old. I don't want to get stuck with a library of games that are incompatible with the console they were designed to run on.

Yes and no. If you've read above you'd see that this was an issue Activision has fixed. Updates for the sake of are bad but more features are good. Sometimes this stuff happens on any system with updates including the PC. Drivers, Software Updates, BIOS and Firmwares, they can cause issue that make working items stop working while adding new features. Just look at Windows and yet life goes on. While the need to quickly patch something is bad because we can say they should have tested more, its not that rare for everyone, not just Sony. Its stupid to say that you wouldn't buy a PS3 because of this. There are many reasons why someone might not want one but you're just flaming for the sake of. I think its safer to say (as a 360 owner) that the 360's RROD is more frustrating because you can't play at all and you have to wait for your replacement and the system has been out much longer than the PS3, not to menation that i know a few people that have had 3 or more replacements and 1 is on his 7th. At what point are they just stupid for replacing a system with one that only lasts a few months? But Sony has a small issue which they can easily fix and you go ape on them? Now for me, I have both because I like them for different reasons. They both have their good and bad points but at least I try to keep things real. I don't have a Wii but do I bash it to make my other 2 systems and myself look better? No, so why do you? Are you trying to justify your purchase? Let me tell you something. Buy the syetem you want, buy games for it, play them and if you enjoy it, then you did good for yourself but that doesn't mean eveyone should make the same choice you did.

well im glad i didn't immediately update like i usually do (my internet had crapped out on me). i'll just wait it out til they drop 2.02. guess ill just play R&C instead of my online games. everyone needs to stop overreacting, it's not like it actually harmed your PS3, you just can't play online for a while. seems like everyone was just looking for another reason to bash Sony when sadly, this seems to happen alot to all the new current-gen consoles.

Thank God dev's don't think like you or else we'd only have games on the DS.

I don't feel that the PS3 vs the 360 controller for FPS is really any different; they're alomost exactly the same and PC is not comparable with key board and mouse to any controller.

If you haven't noticed, consoles are trying to be a lot more like PCs so that argument is having less relevance given this current gen of consoles and probably even less so come the future next gen consoles.

oh my ps3 was freezing up in and out of xmb but all i had to do was restore my system settings, it has not frozen since and it works fine now but i did lose my bookmarks. by the way my problems started when i bought cod4 so i think it might be the game not the firmware

I was using remote play this morning (to make sure I could still turn on the ps3 via psp) and the ps3 didn't fully turn off when I told it to. The display turned off and the light went red but the fan would not turn off. I let it sit for a while but it still did not turn off by itself.
Not sure if it is a new bug or a fluke.

In Sony's defense, they didn't write the Rootkit, they just licensed it from someone else fully aware what they're trying to do.

I restart it, and the screen is black, and there is no sound. Seems totaly jamed. And the PS3 was 2hours old when it crashed, sod.....
