For those who like to peruse galleries of people unboxing their electronics (don't try to hide it, we know you're reading), we've gone ahead and taken a picture for almost every step of the unboxing process for the Xbox 360 of Rock Band Special Edition. Enjoy the images below, and for those who haven't yet found a copy to play, good luck with your search.
i picked up the very first copy of rock band special edition at my local best buy in pensacola, fl this morning and i LOVE IT. although i'm at work now, that's beside the point. can't wait to get home and rock some more.
here's hoping for more radiohead dlc in the future.
Hey, way to make that out-of-box experience smooth and easy! I was hoping I'd have to unwrap each individual part after pulling them from generic cardboard boxes! Awesome!
I don't know about you but in my area i'm only allowed so much trash before i have to pay for special tags for them to pick up extra. That's just a bloody mess.
Does anyone know if the ps2 version will have USB instruments? I figure I can just pick that up, and then when Xbox 360 is more affordable, and doesn't overheat, I can just buy the game and already have the instruments.
i wouldnt count on that dude. i think the specific controllers only work on the console you bought it with. i read somewhere you could do it with the PS2 and PS3 versions (although that could have ben Guitar Hero III) but i dont think you can use the PS2 instruments on a 360. i mean don't quote me on it but i would definitely do some research before buying man.
Has anyone confirmed if you can use a standard USB mic or the standard Xbox headset to sing? I would like to buy the game, but with no instruments.
ALSO, can you create a full band with other people online and do a Tour? I read that some online functionality was non existent, but it was confusing what part it was.
You can use both! The 360 mic is janky vs. the one they give you though. But yeah the game professes support for any 'ol USB mic so you're good to go that front.
The USB mic in the box is actually a really nice quality mic. I was expecting a featherweight crud item but it really is nice.
I find the idea of rock band not easily found, bogus. I was at Sam's Club earlier today and they had a stack of 10. At walmart I saw 2 in a glass case.
To offer another perspective: I went searching for Rock Band in the Rhode Island area this morning around 10AM and all my walmarts, Gamestops, fye's, toys r Us's in the area were sold out.
So as a last ditch effort I checked the ONLY Best Buy in the state and for some reason they have FORTY in stock for 360. Go figure.
I realize it is purely anecdotal, but my wife was at Sam's Club shortly after opening, and they also had a stack of Rock Band for both 360 and PS3 (she didn't give me an exact number). She called me to see about picking one up for eBay or as a backup, in case my pre-ordered one from GameStop was broken or something, and by the time we were done with our phone conversation (maybe 10 minutes), there was one open 360 version and one PS3 version left. She had already picked up one for herself.
I don't know why everyone is talking about shortages - except for LameStop (who the hell preorders!) who will only fill in preorders - I found it everyone here in Los Angeles - Best Buy, Fry's, Circuit City....
would you mind telling me where u can find them in LA area? i had the dipshits at gamestop mess up my pre order, so i wasnt able to get one today. u can email me at duma187 at hotmail dot com. thanks for your help!
Jealous! My shipment comes in tomorrow and I'm not going to get much time to play due to Turkey Day. Now if someone could please explain why the &%^# the 360 GH3 controllers work for Rock Band but the PS3 ones don't.... It means I need 4 guitars to play the two games (6 if I want to play GH 1,2,80's). SIX GUITARS!! WTF Activision!?
Sorry... got a little carried away there. Can't wait to bang on those drums. I don't think any of my friends can sing though....
If you're like me and have GH for xbox, you need to write to activision and red octane about that fact that they dont support the rockband guitar.
Its in all our best interest to get this fixed asap!
This is what I wrote, feel free to use parts of it if your too lazy to write one yourself, just do it! ----
I wont take up much of anyone's time, however I would like to state that I have been a loyal Guitar Hero customer for many years.
I purchased GH 1+2 for the PS2, repurchased GH2 for xbox 360, and was first in line to purchase GH3.
I am absolutely appalled that the GH3 does not support the Rockband controller.
Harmonix is loyal enough to gamers to understand that forcing a non-compatibly standard is not in the best interest of the consumer, activision and red octane seem to feel that this is a way to secure the success of GH.
Well, I just wanted to inform you that I will no longer be purchasing an GH games.
Have you connected it using an XBOX controller? You need to do that in order to use the mic (as it has no buttons). Actually, I think it tells you this the first time you load up the game.
fake plastic trees lol anyways there was a lot of 360 rock bands at my best buy here.. they didn't have a midnight release and there was a bunch today at the store.
I had that same issue with the mic and I didn't get a screen telling me to turn on a 360 controller. Went online to ea support and found out soon enough.
The Mic I am very impressed with. It has a nice feel to it, like something I would actually buy and not just for a game.
The guitar I am happy with as well as far as standard use goes. The jamming out buttons (the ones closer to the body of the guitar) I have a slight issue with because I think they should have been wider, and I also think that for left handed players, the body of the guitar gets in the way as you slide down. But, I am happy I don't hit the effects switch like my right handed wife keeps doing.
Drums feel good. My wife is actually pretty good at the drums for never playing anything like that at all, and I suck at em.
I am happy so far with the game, just the initial songs felt right when playing them. I didnt' feel like I do on GH3 where I am coasting through songs just to get something I can tolerate let alone like.
I picked up two of the systems, heck, could have probably bought all that came in as Toys R Us really didn't care. Almost didn't get one, asked an associate just as they opened if they were getting any in, they said not till friday. Just as I am leaving the store I see the UPS man come in with a pallet full of them. If I left 1 minute earlier, would have missed out.

rock band plastic is the reason oil will reach $100 a barrel. that, and the falling value of the dollar.

And then it becomes to expensive to make any more fake plastic trees and when you can't afford to make the plastic anymore, we're pretty much fucked.

Just FYI: I went to my local Fry's at lunch, and they had about 20 boxes. I picked one up.
I went back 45 minutes later to get one for a friend and they were all sold out.
I think they're going to go fast... good luck.

Anyone have issues with the mic? Our RockBand mic will not work, the system doesn't recognize it on the instrument list.
Pretty shotty if you ask me.
Overall, the game is cool but I am a bit let down. I like the music but the whole setup feels clunky and not very responsive (compared to GH).
You can JAM on it though!
booticon @ Nov 20th 2007 9:50PM

why not the LS2/LS7? @ Nov 21st 2007 9:02AM
Apparently on some consoles, you have to relaunch the game after connecting the Mic before it works.
This doesn't appear to be the case on PS3, so I would guess "some consoles" means 360.
Dragonberg @ Nov 20th 2007 7:38PM

you simply need to turn on a standard controller for the mic to work. Im sure this is due to the Mic not having any buttons. ;)
