SCEA is 'very happy' with Ratchet & Clank sales

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction may have the second lowest first month sales of any game in the series with 74,500, but that hasn't stopped Sony from staying positive. "SCEA is very happy with the initial sales numbers of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction," said a SCEA to 1UP. "In a crowded market of mature content, Ratchet is a fun, sophisticated alternative that truly showcases the power of the PS3."

Of course, its sunny disposition with regards to Ratchet isn't completely unfounded, there are, after all, many fewer PS3s on the market than PS2s. Also, ignore the imaginary 100,000 in first month sales barrier that 1UP is trying to conjure up, Heavenly Sword smashed that jazz back in September.

true, but the sales are still pitiful, only 180k sales US after 3 weeks out of 2.3 million hardware units sold. meanwhile cod4 sells 180k in 1 week and they are 3rd party (activision).

I laughed at the 'folds protein' line. Even a PS3 owner can find that funny.

Every PS3 owner should have this game. Playing through it a second time now.

The problem for all PS3 titles is the PS2's success. When you have such a large PS2 library (costing $20 or less) that can be played on the majority of SKUs, it is sometimes hard to scrummage more money to pay for a new one that costs the full $60.

R&C is a good example because I already have the three releases on the PS2 for my PS3, so it took some debating with myself before I made the purchase online. Not everyone grows a money tree in the backyard, so it's not insensible to buy an earlier PS2 release of a franchise and play that until the newer release drops in price.

playing it again to unlock all the new weapons, and the higher difficulty is definitely refreshing.

What's with the Fernando hate? There are much worse trolls (Shagi anyone?) and they don't get crucified like this every god damn time they post something remotely negative.

Fernando, that comment was really trollish, they key to the three hearts is making subtle zingy jokes, not this blatant trolling. Just quit it before you do get banned.

It was just a matter of time. Sony is getting their mojo back. And it's about time...Ratchet, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword...it was bound to happen.

is mojo what you call it when your cross platform games are getting outsold at a 3:1 clip and their exclusives are under-selling the competitions even worse. Not that it's the games fault, they do have a few pretty good games. Lets just not be silly here.

And honestly... that three games that you mentioned, can be done on the 360.

and Halo, Gears and Bioshock "can be done on" PS3. What's your point? They won't be, but the games Frank listed also won't be on 360.

I don't think it's the Sony fanboys that started this fight in the first place. It's only the Nintendo fanboyus that seem to act like only Mario exists in the platforming world.

I'm a Sony fan and I think Mario Galaxy is awesome. I also think R&CF is amazing, too.

First, I should say it's silly to have a "who started it first" thing, but if you wanna go there, I'd say of course it was the Sony Fanboys who started it.
Who was called Mario (and all Nintendo) games old, boring and all the same? While then turning around and tauting a series that has seen about 1 game per year pumped out with little to no changes?
And it didn't help matters when that jack-ass Insomniac PR director flapped his gums about Mario Galaxy' borrowing' it's entire concept from Ratchet & Clank.

Hell, most Nintendo fanboys will even admit R&C are good games. Even FERNANDO up there just said it.

Whether that's where they got the idea doesn't change that. And you're just fvcking blind if you can't see all the constant hate directed toward the PS3 around here these days. It's almost always some Nitnendo or 360 fanboy throwing dirt on the PS3 and getting the PS3 fanboys riled up.

I would argue that it's usually WORSE for Nintendo...or at least it used to be. Joystiq seems to finally have banned the worst of the anti-Nintendo trolls.

The only one who ever usually gets off scot-free is Microsoft, really.

Come on now... while the Wii does get a fair amount, nearly every damn thread is derailed into anti-PS3 non-sense these days. Even threads that have absolutely nothing to do with the PS3 often head that direction. It's an every day affair around here these days. Maybe at one point it in the past it was like that for Nintendo, but not right now... in fact, not for the past year. Even items that are actually good news for the PS3 are spun in some way to be negatives. Again, that's not to say that you don't have the ocassional thread Nintendo bashing thread, but it's not even remotely close to the scale of the PS3 bashing. I just get disgusted when it has gotten to the point that even a great series like R&C gets dragged through the mud because it's a Sony exclusive. It seems like every single time the game is mention on Joystiq all the Ninty fanboy jump in and attempt to discredit the gamein some fasion. It's apparently inconcievable to them that the PS3 actually has good games and even more so that it's a platformer. God forbid someone actually enjoy a stellar platformer without "Mario" title.

I can't access that link here at work so I don't know what it shows, but 3D does play a huge role in the idea.

Why do people keep mentioning Heavenly Sword? That game bombed hardcore with the critics, and at best it was above average. It's really sad that that kind of shitty game gets listed together with titles like Ratchet and Uncharted...

HS wasn't rated that badly. Most reviews said it was a good game, just way too short. Given the length I don't plan on buying it for full price, but I'll likely pick it up in the bargain bin later.

79 at MetaCritic doesn't look that hot to me...

Again if you read most of the reviews one of the biggest knocks was the length. That's a fair complaint and I won't pay full price for it, but it won't stop me from getting it cheaper down the road.

It came out at the end of the mouth though. Those are the sales from a week and a half.....

On a side note I wonder how M$ feels about the 38K of PGR 4 that sold in its first month.

74,500 in a whole month? I hope that this game gets a lot of attention during the holidays because those figures are ridiculous for a well known Sony series.

Those weren't the sales figures for a full month but for the last week of October. The last two R&C got better sales but were launched earlier in the month. So all in all R&CF:ToD sales are actually comparable to its predecessors.

BTW It really is a *terrific* game. It's been a very good month for the PS3. I've completed Ratchet & Clank and am now playing Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed back to back. And waiting for my copy of Guitar Hero III to show up in the mail.

Ouch.

And a side note of LOL to the people who thought this game would be better than Galaxy. Ratings and sales have said otherwise.

Its even crazy that Sony fanboys put Ratchet in the same league as Mario. Noobs.

I, for one, do enjoy it more than the 3D Mario games. They're completely different anyway.
