PS3 owners can put their fears to rest: It looks likes you are going to get your hands on Unreal Tournament 3 before year's end. Epic's Mark Rein has just posted on the company's official forums: "We got news last night that Unreal Tournament 3 has been approved by SCEA and has been released to North American manufacturing."
Now, the big question is when you or Santa (wink!) will be able to get your hot/gloved hands on it. Rein says Midway will have a formal announcement early next week, but he guessed they "will start shipping the title to North American retailers on Monday December 10th and it could show up in stores as early as December 11th, but more likely toward the middle of that week."
Rein still isn't sure about PAL territories because of some localization issues. His best guess is that the the game will ship there in January or February.

Why do you have to worry? You bought a system and the game is coming out for it. Whats the need to worry that its coming out on another system sooner than later? LOL fanboyism leads all the way back to tribal days its astonishing to still see it in modern times. This kind of thing is what people will be learning about in history books 200 years from now.

Thankfully, the PS3 is region free! I'll be importing my copy.

The odd thing about this is Sony clamps down on importers. Look what they did to Lik Sang for the unholy act of selling PSPs to Europe.

James,
Do a little more research, and find out what the REAL problem with Lik-Sang was...

@James
They had a history of circumventing the law. Awhile back, they were sued by all three console makers for selling hardware modded systems. Then they went on to circumvent release dates for hardware by redistributing them.
Software import is fine since we've seen no title region locked. And you should take advantage of it as long as you can understand the language.

Isn't it always though? Worst part of consoles being online is the ability for the previously PC-only "We'll just patch it later" mentality.

Epic never seemed that way. They always seemed to have the its done when its done attitude. Video of this game existed over a year and a half ago. I was under the impression it would be out in 2006. So it should be that much more polished!

Yeah. Epic is one of the better devs. I wasn't speaking of them specifically, just in general and that the release day patch has never made me feel good about a PC game purchase. Console games still seem to require fewer repair patches.

I understand the need for pc patches due to the different setups people sport..... but console patches??? They shouldn't even exist. These games should all be ironed out and even tested with mp closed betas before release date.
2k3 gave me some hell on my rig years ago. So frustrating!

I was having fun playing Gears of War online... but a few months later Epic issued a mandatory patch designed to fix the glitches, but all it ended up doing was make my character stick to the walls like glue.

Awesome news. I checked amazon today for shits and giggles and noticed they had Dec 10th listed as the release date. I cant imagine this game scoring any lower metacritic wise than 2004.

It was NOT rushed, tools.
It was DELAYED to work out the types of problems that WOULD lead to a day one patch. Epic is the only company who can and does get away with that sort of thing.
I just bought the Collector's Edition of Unreal III for PC. The casing and everything is amazing. On topic, the art book starts out with a letter from the president of Epic, talking about just that.

Epic wins. I love Epic, but I need to get a new card. My 6600 is dead, so I'm gonna' buy the new ATI HD 3870 and a Thermaltake graphics power supply (drive bay based power supply for graphics cards).
I must first mourn over my 6600's death. *sob*

Drive bay based power supply? That's the first time I've ever heard of that. The 3870 isn't much of a power hog, why would you need a separate PSU for it?

Those drive-based power supplies are currently only 250W. Why spend the extra money when you could just get a 1000W standard PSU?

Now can we get all the problems fixed with the broken Gears of War PC port?
Reply

Whats broken? There is a tonne of stuff to be fixed. Many people are reporting crashing, stuttering. Etc. There is a whole list of stuff. Then they need to start thinking about dedicated servers so people can get off windows live. Go check out Epic games forums if you don't beleive me. The place is heaving with people needing support.

Well if the Epic forums on Gears are anything like the Epic forums on UT3, I'd say majority of those threads are the same issues just constantly reposted by others because your average PC user can deal with the frustration of constantly patching their OS but a "search" function goes into some magical wonderland that must not be explored.
Seriously, I had the cutscene stuttering issue, went on their forums, and looked up the issue. Found well over 40 threads that were the same thing. It was ridiculous to me.

I'm loving the pc version so far, but man having to copy to hdd to install b/c the dvd wouldn't work for plenty of people it seems (epic forums) and having to alter a config file was pretty annoying to get what i shouldve had from the start. the vehicles and hoverboards are sweet though :D

glad to know that the PS3 has another quality title coming out for it, and it's NOT delayed. On the downside, I never really liked UT series so I probably won't pick this up. I'll wait until Jan.2008 for Haze. And in the meantime I'll spend my time with Uncharted, RockBand, SuperMarioGalaxy, and Halo3.
