MapleStory holds in-game Black Friday sales
MapleStory is one of those "free" online worlds that earns its keep by charging users for in-game items (the same business model practiced by Habbo Hotel). So it's nice to hear that Nexon, the Korean company behind the MMO, is starting a tradition of offering Black Friday sales on the world's most popular items.
The sales will run from this Friday (you know, Black Friday), through Sunday, but only for short intervals at a time. In addition, special, rare items will be sold each day for one hour only. Check out the entire Black Friday sales schedule after the break. Happy Turkey Day, Maple citizens.
Sale schedule copied from the MapleStory website. All sale items will be in limited qualities, so Nexon recommends showing up early. If a player can not see the sale item, Nexon recommends exiting the Cash Shop, re-entering and clicking the "Event" section.

You know what, I might start playing again.
finnith @ Nov 22nd 2007 3:51PM
You might reconsider. Here are the pros of this game
1>easy to get into.
There are only a few buttons you'll ever need to press. For example, an assassin will do this forever.
Jump+lucky 7, jump+l7, jump+l7, USE A POTION, jump+17, jump+l7, jump+7 etc. etc. etc.

Paying for items? That's just silly!
So anyway, who else here is on Gaia Online? I was thinking about donating, and

so its a virtual sale but its still real money right? lol, so its like "in honor of the holiday, we're going to scam you slightly less than normal"....how generous
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 22nd 2007 2:00PM
How are they scamming you for money? It's a fucking free game, they need to make their money somehow.
born2kill @ Nov 22nd 2007 4:00PM
Its a scam because its a completely unfair trade, dependant upon the slimey marketing and the gullibility of the players. Its no diff from Xbox live charging customers for icons and picture packs. Its an obvious rip and when its this much of a rip, i considered it a scam.

It´s amazing how many people find this useless game entertaining.

Hey, people like what they like. Nexon isn't forcing players to buy anything. Plus I know dozens of people who pay 15 dollars or more a month just to be able to PLAY the games they already had to spend 40 dollars on. If you don't like Maple Story, don't play it.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 22nd 2007 3:32PM
preach it.
Nailio @ Nov 22nd 2007 4:06PM
Ahaha, fuck that.
I used to play Maplestory, had a level 83 Chief Bandit. The game is one big scam. Say you hack, rather then get a perma ban, you just get a 90 day ban, which is exactly how much the NX crap you buy lasts for. Now if Paypal messes up and Nexon has a slight delay for when they get their money from buying NX you get the banstick. By the way, you can only report someone for hacking once a day. Meaning if you see three hackers in the day, which is really a good day, you can only report one of them
Funny, before I left for World of Warcraft alot of my friends say that game was stupid since you had to pay 15 bucks for it a month. More then two thirds of them were NX whores who easily bought 50 bucks of NX a month.
Not to mention at higher levels if you dont have NX gear on or the face changes people will accuse you of hacking and defame you.
If your thinking of playing this game, dont.
born2kill @ Nov 22nd 2007 4:12PM
no one is forced to pay 10$ for tetris on their cell either, but a rip is a rip, and its fair to criticize them harshly for it.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 22nd 2007 4:48PM
I still don't see how this game is ripping people off.
Okay people, the game is free. None of the items in the nx store change any aspect of the game, so you can get all of the enjoyment of the game without paying a single a dime.
MS would be ripping people off if you needed to pay to acess a certain level, or forced you to pay for weapons that are stronger than the ones found in the actual game.
The developers need to make money somehow, and having a store beats having the entire game free, yet riddled with in game ads.
Ryan Gossage (Nailio) @ Nov 22nd 2007 10:53PM
Except Vegeta, they added 2x Exp cards to the NX shop. which are 20 bucks and last for a month. Say one of your leveling friends buys one, hey wait, I want to level fast with them, so I need to buy one too! Now that seems liek a advantage given to the NX payers
Not to mention the pets which make looting things easier since they loot for you.

A while ago I liked this game, and then I realized it was pointless, just like all other mmorpgs. One day I was like, this is a waste of time, and stopped, never regretted stopping since.
