Haha, PS3 numbers are already down to the Wii's level from last week while the Wii itself has remained around 30-40k since forever. Do you Sony fanboys seriously believe the PS3 will magically stay above the Wii? Dream on.

Not that I give a fuck.

Ya know... I wouldn't mind if the Wii got outsold for a while. It might finally kick some sense into Nintendo and correct some errors with the system.

1) Friend Codes have got to go. It's just silly, and offers no protection whatsoever. The whole online structure needs a bit of fixing, if you ask me.
But, I fear we'll have to wait for DS2 and Wii2 to see an improved online system (maybe). And why is there no online play for VC?! Just about every homebrew emulator supports netplay, there's no reason Nintendo can't do this, too.

2) Support for USB HDDs. And letting you run Channels off a SD card. Although I've only bought five VC titles in the entire year I've had the system (two reasons I haven't gotten into VC much: the price and the fact I own most of the good games already, and see no need to have them on a new system), I know there are others out there who are running out of space on their Wii. Seriously, they should've built 1GB into the system, not 512MB. Even before the Wii was released, 1GB of flash was getting really cheap.

3) DVD playback. Not a HUGE issue, but it would be nice to be able to download a patch to use the Wii as a DVD player (the drive is CAPABLE of reading DVDs, just lacks the playback codecs).

But... I'm fairly certain this boost will not last. Yeah, last week's sales were impressive for PS3, but as it was noted, the 40GB model and Shin Sengoku Musou 5 (Dynasty Warriors 6) were only on sale for a day that week. And for the following week (seven days of sales, eight days in total), the PS3 now barely hovers above Wii's sales. To me, this sounds like it'll drop below Wii again next week.
But, hey. The future's unpredictable. Who knows what's next?

I do.

The Wii's shortcomings and the PS3's strengths will become more apparent over the next 12-18 months. Sometime in 2009 (possibly late 2008), the PS3 will likely begin to steadily outsell the Wii.

The PS3 is the least flawed of all the new systems, that's why it will win.

Like I would believe what you say. You're one of the biggest Sony trolls here.

How flawed the hardware is means nothing. Afterall, the PS2 was the most flawed last generation (DREs being a big issue for a while), but it was still the market leader due to a reasonable price and large software library. Having a year advantage to GameCube and Xbox didn't hurt, either.

It's too late for PS3 to become the market leader. The damage has already been done. They are going to be struggling with 360 for second place this generation. Nothing short of a miracle happening would be needed for PS3 to dominate. But that "miracle" never happen.

@ BPM

I really fear (and believe) that no change in the network structure is forthcoming

Nintendo of Japan (Nintendo Co Ltd) is the one in control of the operation, and they clearly hate it, they were the ones who pushed Connectivity as the alternative to online play, and they drag thier feet as much as possible to continue to promote local play as an alternative

You can tell, while Western-developed games (like Strikers Charged) give you leaderboards and statistics and all that, the stuff made in Kyoto (Brawl) gives you the barebones basics (ok, not exactly, there is spectator mode, but still)

my question in all this, are Wii's still selling out in Japan. If that were the case this whole article would be rather pointless. It's like the 360 outselling the Wii in america last holiday, there were far more to go around. If there is a drop off of Wii sales, it would be interesting to find out why. Obviously it's up to Nintendo to build up hype for the console again and if they don't that's their fault.
