Sisters of Battle, Dark Eldar lead charge in Dawn of War: Soulstorm
If comments are any indication, many remain unsure of the direction Relic intends to take the latest expansion for its tabletop-inspired RTS Dawn of War, Soulstorm. While some may have continued to hold out hope for a bug hunt against galactic menace and fan-favorite Tyranids, gameplay designer Shawn Frison has revealed via a dev diary that the game will in fact pit the previously revealed Dark Eldar against the estrogen-charged Orders Militant of the Adepta Sororitas, otherwise known as the Sisters of Battle.
The stand alone expansion's factions will join others from the series, from the genetically enhanced Space Marines to the Orkish green tides, and will offer additional units and vehicles with which to wage war in the 'grim darkness' of the 41st millennium.
Among these new units will be the Sisters' Canoness, who is described by Frison as "a battle-hardened veteran" who is apparently able to call down the wrath of God at a whim to smite her foes, not unlike my mother-in-law. Not to be outdone, the Dark Eldar also come to play with their "lords of malice" called Archons who, along with a retinue of Incubi bodyguards, look to give the opposition what for by siphoning their souls and being generally unpleasant. So, given these two choices, which race will win your favor next spring when Soulstorm arrives at retail?

The Sisters? Really?! WHY!?!
They're Space Marines with longer hair, the only real addition they bring is the Exorcist tank, which while awesome, is one god damn thing.
This is bullshit, where are my Tyranids!

True, though if they base them on the Witchhunters Codex you'll get Inquisitors and their wacky assistants.
Otherwise yeah you'll get two units which are just tactical marines and assault marines with different models, some different tanks, and that unit of half naked Sisters with giant chainswords (actually that doesn't sound too bad...).
It's been a while since I last played DoW, did Space Marines get Grey Knights as a unit? If not they could probably toss them in with the Sisters. Maybe add Arbiters too for the oldschool 40k fans.

Space Marines got the Grey Knights in one of the expansions. You can only have a squad of six but really it's all you need.
Honestly though, I expect to see Squats before Tyranids. Though I suppose they just want to avoid "hey they ripped off the Zerg!" crap Warhammer Online is getting.

I gotta agree that Im disappointed it wasn't the Tyranids. I thought it would be for sure.

Relic said that Tyranids couldn't be done justice with the current engine... despite there being a Tyranid mod in the works that does look somewhat decent.
However, even if you don't like these two new armies, you have to consider that all the other races get new units, including air units to use, and the inclusion of more singleplayer story and multiplayer maps. Since the Dawn of War series is our #1 LAN party game, it's well worth the $30 to us.

You got it in one when you said "Tyranid mod looks somewhat decent."
It does look decent, but it's not the slam dunk the other races are. Hopefully DOW2 is a when not a if, and it'll be full of Tyranids from the get go.
SoB mod still looks better then the Relic ones.

I'll stick with my Space Marines thank you very much. This just means I have two more fractions to destroy when the game finally releases.

Wha.. What!? No ****ing pest control? Damn it..
What I don't understand, apart from that, is why the hell they don't make Dawn Of War II
Savok @ Nov 23rd 2007 1:34PM
Because they like money. Only once they've completely exhausted everything they can turn into expansion packs for DoW1, they'll make DoW2.

suhweet! I fielded a Sisters army when I played table top. This will be a must purchase for me.

I have a Sisters of battle army, so I'm happy about the news. But come on now, we all either want to play as the Tyranids or fight against them. I imagine it would be a bitch getting the army balance right but they should have gotten this done by now.

I have to agree with many ppl here, I don't want Sisters or Dark Eldar. Double yawn.
*I want my Tyranids*
I'll still buy this, though, to play the new campaign with the old races. They'll probably throw in a new unit for each race like they did with the previous expansions, so I'll still have friggin' tons of fun with it, even if I don't care about Sisters or Dark Eldar.
