Today's Katamariest video: Cartoon Network's 'Chowder'
It seems that Katamari Damacy continues to roll on, inspiring imitators and homages long after the original title's release. This time, it seem everyone's favorite clump of souls has rolled onto cable television, with the Cartoon Network program Chowder presenting an extended Katamari-esque sequence involving a rather large piece of bubblegum.
Chowder is the latest in a long line of original Cartoon Network animated shows, created by the mind behind Spongebob Squarepants and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. The show is about an apprentice cook named Chowder. In fact, every character is named after food. There's a girl named Panini. Panini. We think that's just awesome.
[Thanks, Mark]

Wow, they even spoofed the theme song.
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 23rd 2007 1:12AM
Okay, I have to watch this cartoon now. I'm usually skeptical about every new show that appears on CN now, since... well... they seem to have lowered the bar. That, or I'm still pissed they cancelled MEGAS XLR.
Zamzoph @ Nov 23rd 2007 1:27AM
It would help to ease the pain if they released a DVD set already =(
Mr Khan @ Nov 23rd 2007 4:50PM
Megas rocked, but a few shows they do are good still, like Foster's and Codename KND
Yeah, i'm 18 and i watch cartoon network, what do you do for fun?
Blast Processing Megadrive @ Nov 23rd 2007 8:26PM
Me? I kick puppies for fun.
Err... No, wait. I mean... I watch cartoons and play video games for fun. Yeah, that's what I meant.
Geist @ Nov 24th 2007 12:30AM
I dig giant robots.

I have to admit, Chowder is pretty good. This episode in particular was great, but I might be biased since I love all things Katamari.

Fatass of Kickassness @ Nov 23rd 2007 3:06AM
Other than Ben 10 and Billy and Mandy (which has admittedly taken a Spongebob-esque turn for the worst) this is the only show on Cartoon Network I can stomach.
GoldenS1104 @ Nov 23rd 2007 3:10AM
Really? No Foster's? That's the only show that I watch on CN. Occasionally, if nothing else is on, I'll watch certain other shows, but Foster's the only one I'd actually choose over certain other shows.
Zeus the God @ Nov 23rd 2007 4:05AM
Foster's, Billy and Mandy, and Chowder. Thats it. Other than that, no other show has any relatively intelligent or slap-stick humor. That and a lot of the inuendo (sp?)in those shows is great. I just wish Rocko's Modern Life was still around.
Other than those shows, CN is no good except for Adult Swim.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 23rd 2007 4:08AM
Ben 10 really? I seriously wanted to punch the shit out of that kid after watching an episode.
Also I checked out the live action film to see how bad it would be. My god. It was probably the worst thing I've seen on television in a long time.
DomoBraden @ Nov 23rd 2007 3:33AM
Hehehe...punani. Hehehehe..
DomoBraden @ Nov 23rd 2007 3:37AM
BTW, this reminds me...where is my Samurai Jack??
Atleast give us a straight-to-DVD movie that ties all the loose ends...
Fatass of Kickassness @ Nov 23rd 2007 3:53AM
Thats what we're getting in 2008 supposedly.

"I'm thinking of becoming a ninja"
Awesome
comtar @ Nov 23rd 2007 11:03AM
I agree, Joystiq should just post a clip of anything where a character says "I'm thinking of becoming a ninja."
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 23rd 2007 4:07AM
Chowder is absolutely amazing. It's like the Avatar of Cartoon Network(in terms of pure awesomeness).

I was actually surprised at how enjoyable this show was. Now I know why with it being done by the mind behind Billy and Mandy and Spongebob. The humor is pretty quirky and actually makes me laugh. Billy and Mandy is about the only show that does that for me on CN. Luckily this show is putting out new episodes for me to giggle at.
Rein @ Nov 23rd 2007 11:34AM
I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves Chowder. It's a really great show and when I saw the Katamari episode for the first time, I couldn't stop laughing.
snowy @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:23PM
not every growing ball is a katamari reference. plenty of cartoons had an uncontrollable growing snowball way before the game ever came out. it could just be a take on that.
Ze Bullet @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:34PM
While you have a point, the music is a pretty dead giveaway that it's a katamari reference.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 23rd 2007 6:41PM
Nope it's defiantly a Katamari spoof. Why?
1. Song is so Katamari like
2. The creator of Chowder is known to be a huge Katamari Damacy fan.

Yeah, it's official. C.H. Greenblatt specifically mentions that this was a tribute to "his favorite rolling game" on his blog. He also laments that his Xbox 360 stopped working, a complaint which should sound awfully familiar to gaming geeks like us.
