Never had anything PlayStation branded, myself. My PC crushed everything back when it was somewhat popular, and nowadays if I were to buy a console it would be a 360.

I haven't given Sony a penny in over a year, and I will not change that, um, ever. Nothing they can do will redeem them for XCP / MediaMax rootkits and bungling the design of the PS3, coupled with blatant lies about its capabilities (that a computer literate 8 year old would find equally obvious).

Boycott Sony. Do it. Do it now.

Only one problem with that sentiment, my high minded activist. If I boycotted every corporation that acted like a dick through a greedy move...I think I'd be in a compound somewhere in Idaho with underage wives.

I tend to like PC games myself, but dismissing the success of the PS1 and PS2 for unrelated crimes is rather foolish. The fact that both Microsoft and Intel comprise monopolies doesn't make my experience with Starcraft, Half-life, etc. any less fun.

Take a good look at all your electronic gear my friend. Chances are, you are being fucked by one or more protective corporate schemes on each and every device.

I have a Xbox 360, want a Wii, and have no need for a PS3. After looking through these comments, and the one for the Orange Box, I feel that almost everyone here is completely lost it. And so I will use this lofty position in the comments to point something out: these are game systems. I use them to play games.

People whine about their Cell chips and their Wiimotes, and their IPTV or whatever MSDF pushes (I haven't seen much of them really), but I do not care.

I bought a 360 for Halo 3. Also, it connects to the Internet to allow me to play this game with my friends. This is what they call a "killer app", at least for me. Games like Oblivion, PGR, Geometry Wars, etc., that I like happen to be a plus. But this is my opinion. Your opinions and NEEDS AND WANTS vary. They are not what some loudmouth fanboy tells you they think is right.

I want a Wii for one game. That killer app is called Smash Bros. Brawl. Again, I happen to like the game and I will play my friends online. But I will use GCN controllers because I like them. I could care less about the Wiimote for this game. (Although, I found it highly satisfactory for Twilight Princess, which I'll get eventually. But I don't plan on bowling or skiing or boxing.) There are few other games I intend on getting for it, besides TP and make Battle Revolution. But that's about it.

As for the PS3, there are no games I found particularly interesting. That's not to say there aren't good games (Uncharted, etc.), but they do not interest me. None of the other features like Blu-ray, Home, or PSN appeal to me either. I do not value the strength of the Cell anymore than the CPU in the 360, nor the high definition over the Wii's 480p. This doesn't factor in my decision, but it may in yours.


There's a lot of people here that thinking their console is the country they live in, or their family name. They've gotten so obsessed they get paranoid reading every Joystiq article, ready to attack any bias they perceive because they worry it'll suddenly kill off their beloved console's sales. But these people don't realize that it's the MARKET that controls fates, that it's the opinions of the average masses that never even heard of Joystiq probably--not the individual opinion of you--that runs things.

Anyways, that's my two cents. I'm going back to delivering one-liners for major lulz, which SHOULD be the more obnxoious comments on this blog.

The biggest software company in the world gets obliterated by a good (but not great) company.

Microsoft failed for 10 years to make the PC competitive with consoles (that's why DirectX was created). Then they gave up and produced the Xbox. Now it'll cost them another 10 years to realize they can't make consoles.

Microsoft is one of the most untalented companies in the world. The only type of people who go to work for a monopolistic company are wimpy, geeky, passive people who hate confrontation (ie competition). That's why all of their products are mediocre at best. They're called "losers" for a reason.

we complain about a console because it's not something we want. we want things. we want to want the ps3, but it's gotta change to be worth the cost to some of us

I can do one better;

I liked my PS1 more than my N64, but didn't like the PS2 at all. No games interested me.

He over engineered it. Since he's an engineer at heart that's not surprising. Then when costs starting overrunning the project they had to hastily trim things.

It's not that he was high, but he had too much power this time around to make his visions come true. The PS3 is a good product in my biased opinion, but some better choices earlier on could have preserved the Blu Ray trojan without costing so damn much at first.

it is very simple, the ps2 was so bloody sucessful that they went and made an expensive machine, MS had heaps of money to make the xbox, which barely gave them any profit, so they made the 360, a much cheaper console, inferior in hardware. especially how there arent even any rubber guards in the disk drive... if the ps3 "fails" or comes 2nd or 3rd place in the long run, SCE will either be shut down, or forced to make an inferior console next time around that is easier for devs to use. meaning!? a more sucessful console according to you!
