MTV Games hints at next big thing; announcement coming soon

With Rock Band out in stores (well, kinda), publisher MTV Games is already looking for their next hit. Early bets were on similar music-themed titles (they are MTV, after all). A recent Reuters article, however, seems to indicate otherwise, as MTV Networks Music Group EVP Jeff Yapp hints at even greater things to come.

At the end of the article, Yapp teases that MTV Games is planning a "big announcement, which is coming up fairly quickly." He refers to the announcement as "a move into a whole other realm," which could either mean that MTV Games is planning to move away from the rhythm gaming genre, or perhaps even that MTV Games is moving away from games altogether.

So how soon is "fairly quickly"? And will MTV Games' newest venture include developer Harmonix? Let the speculations run rampant. We're just curious to see how MTV plans to further utilize their unique resources in the game industry.

Seriously though. MTV making NOT music games isn't new. Anyone remember the HORRIBLE CD-ROM game Club Dead?

I think it will be Rock Band-esque MMO with people creating music on their computer and selling/playing it on the online for other people to play and download to their mp3 players.

Of course it would be a bit limited on the software side and maybe the instruments as well, but a cool idea I think.

Yeah, that does sound pretty cool. So it'd be The Movies online with music instead?

I am confused, why is it something do with music? I mean they are MTV after all and haven't been about music for 10 years. Except for those of us that are up in between the hours of 5 and 8 in the morning, when does anyone see music on MTV??

MTV suck so badly... the music, the commercials whitout any sense, the awards, the shows... everything is so fucked up.

the problem with mtv is that it tries to fit a certain demographic
the demographic that consists of kids without a taste of music, with no sense, reality show whores , and of course all of them are all fucked up in the head.

Coming to a 360 near you, MTV presents: Spygate. You control a crappy video camera and go through a game where you have to take pics of things or videos. Experience this through many levels from the football field, to the classroom, to the cheerleader showers.

Hip-Hop Hero etc.

Oh God, Hip Hop Hero. I'm half surprised it hasn't completely happened already. I think there's a game called Rock Da Mic out there which is essentially the same thing

That would be Get On Da Mic.

If memory serves correct, its aggregate score wasn't that great. Or "phat," as the genre would say.
